  1. "Kids don't play under trees during storms" True but they do take shelter and believe it to be safe as with Young boy eight years old, died when he was crushed by the 120ft tall, 300 year old beech which was blown down in winds of up to 67mph on New Year's Day 2005. Tree had been regularly inspected and was deemed safe.... Your opinion is to brace the tree, mine is to take it out and replace with a healthy specimen. We all do things differently and have a different perception of risk. But when you manage spaces for the public you have to reduce the risk because its you they come after when things of wrong. Merry Christmas and stay safe out there.
  2. Stay safe guys, enjoy the festive season and have fun coz you've earned it.
  3. Don't work tired, don't say yes if you mean no and don't blag.
  4. Thou shalt not run your saw without wearing your ppe.
  5. Kids safety first mate, that's gotta go. If it fails who will they come after. If you do reduce and brace it will only get more rot into trunk if the split runs so deep. That's only my opinion others may differ but for me if it poises a danger to kids now or in the future it's gotta go.
  6. A woman playin golf teed off and watched in horror as her ball hit a man playing the Nextl hole. His hands clasped together at his groin, he fell to the ground rolling around in agony. The woman rushed to the man offering to ease his pain as she was a physiotherapist. The man said "no I'll be fine" The woman insisted and she gently took his hands away undid his trousers ,put her hands inside and she massaged him tenderly for several moments and asked "How does that feel? He replied it feels lovely but I still think my thumbs broken...
  7. Mmnnnn Mince Pie cut offs..... Haven't had them for years. The hardest part of giving up the bread is the luxury of the soft bread combined with brown sauce and crispy bacon...
  8. Dropped 4 stone in 5 months through laying off bread and being a very active garden maintenance business. Got 2 stone to go. Good Luck Guys over the next few weeks and possibly the hardest time to lose weight. Customers is a Nutritionist and she advised leaving out bread so I did and its worked for me, I still eat rye or sourdough but not the processed mass produced sliced white/brown stuff.
  9. That's what I thought Ian. Like to give people the benefit of the doubt on most occasions but when's it's on my front door step becomes a different matter.
  10. We had a guy call at the house Sunday night at quarter to eight asking if we needed a window cleaner. It was pitch black outside somehow he thought he could give me a price to clean the windows got me a bit narked. Noticed he had no ladders on his can as he sped off.
  11. Mine is the rear handle version and its just awesome. It goes through anything I throw at it. Used it to log up some hefty pieces of oak, cherry, tulip and plum and it happily rips through no problem. Using it on Rhodie tomorrow. Fuel to oil ratio it's about 1 to 1 (1 tank fuel to 1 tank chain oil)
  12. Thanks Guys, will look into sourcing one. Si- all moved, stacked and some been logged up. Terrific colours in the heartwood. Need to extend the new woodstore:biggrin:
  13. Does anyone know what the carving tables are called, they look a bit like workmates but are smaller and height adjustable, all the ones I've seen are red metal with a wooden work top not sure if they open abit like a vice to hold the work piece. Sorry I can't find a decent pic.
  14. On a similar vein not sunset,(sorry) dawn and the reign of the sky taxi. We live 40 miles from MAnchester airport and this was the air traffic over the house on a cool sunny crisp December day.
  15. Ian, did you use a scroll saw or bandsaw? To make these
  16. Yup bee keepers try to get stung as much as possible. Bee stings are cool for clearing circulation, building heart immunities and for killing off threats from Arthur.itis,
  17. Hope your healing well, what time through your working day did it happen.? I was logging for 6 hours today and in the last 10 mins at the end of the day nearly sliced through my boot and left shin. Own fault as been recovering for the past three days from a sh@te cold and shouldn't have even bothered starting the saw . Hope you are well and gettin back on the horse ASAP.
  18. Quality workmanship as always, you'll soon be tagging yourself as a master craftsman, well done bud.:thumbup
  19. Ps the home made brandy and damson gin also kills the pain:sneaky2:
  20. 52 years of hard sport, broken bones, drystone walling and hedge laying in the worst of weathers plus years of driving or sat a puter for 14 hours a day and most recently gardening 9 hrs a day has taken its toll. But I don't touch any ibu, tamasa or other chems. I use breathing, linament and deep hot baths to kill it off and it works for me. As a Bee keeper I've found a spoon of honey works on colds and also on cuts and grazes and little bit of propolis works when I feel a little run down. Sorry guys if this sounds a little herbie but it works for me. As I type my hands are wrapped in bandage with linament on my wrists to ease the pain and its great.
  21. Hey are you going to the Christmas fayre next weekend at INglenook Farm?
  22. Try the linament man it's awesome. It's really burns deep. After day after day of gardening and years of broken bones it relieves pain without the need to digest prescription drugs.
  23. The whole family and the dog all moan at the smell, but give it half an hour and the heat is so thermal you have too leave the room.
  24. Been logging all day and wrists are kn@@kered having broken both 4/5 times as a kid. Absolutely love getting a really hot deep bath and then putting some Namman Muay Thai Boxing: linament on the wrists then wrapping in crepe bandage. Also put some on back of the neck and wrap in a scarf .... It's thermal....:gasthrower:: Awesome deep heat to relieve the aches n pains. Anyone else do this?
  25. Hey Si That's crazy as we were only saying the other day how great your squirrel carving is on the bench at Formby. Lovely piece of work mate well done.
