  1. +1 billhook or a slasher long handle bill hook. as for trees two places do very good native trees first choice Murrey Mc clean abingdon does very good native species and has some failrly tall or mill farm trees nr winchester does very good plants. as for felling need someone to survey the wood for you and earmark those which need felling. need to let light into the wood this will allow the native flowers blue, white bells. primrose. to flourish. see if you can find a charcoal burner if you do not need the wood good luck and welcome to this site show us your photo,s as you progress with the work.

  12. if its a ancient woodland with hazel.ash and other trees then the douglas are not doing the wood much good. he could make money by felling firs. have a coppicer renting the wood to make hazel products. if you want to keep the dormice you need to coppice it for its products so it is coppiced on a rotational basis not all at same time so there is wood to use again in 7 years time. now i am not a expert but the droppings from the firs are not going to do the ph of the wood a lot of good. plus bonus if firs go and light comes back in bluebells in spring.

husky 576xp autotune have no problem with any f that work with a 24" bar cracking saw
  18. only one place to buy hedeging plants Murry Mc Clean abingdon nr oxford best plants you can get. does all the sundries. as for planting double row first two boot apart then diag boot apart. has pace but still tight. and can be laid in 10 to 15 years time
  19. good hurdle maker can make a hurdle in 2 hours. its having material ready to go. so its the time getting it splitting it making stakes to start them. guy i know cuts 2 acres at a time and takes back to his shed to make all the things he does
  20. faggots are used a lot for river bank inprovments. get all my stakes and binders. larger hazel use for firewood or charcoal. so much you can get from a hazel wood if you can do it. make chairs and seats. list goes on need to sort out doing charcoal this year. as for making a living know a few old boys who can and do make a living from coppicing. its getting a name for the products you do.
  21. as in my post i have just put on find the petzl are not for groundwork only arial work. as i found out today if something falls on your head not covered. i want a breathable hat but for ground. just checked there site and only do one for ground and its not ventilated so like the old builders hat
  22. i bought a petzl helmet not so long ago as they where more comfortable to wear and had the chin strap. unlike the normal helmets. whilst in local arb shop meet with a trainer to find my helmet is not for groundwork but just for aloft and so would not be covered on my insurance if something fell down. on the box it say nothing only arboriculture helmet read the small print says only for climbing. bit miffed as it was not that cheap to buy. and only helmets for groundwork are those horrible ones like builders hats which after a day wearing your head is sweating it rubs on your head. only one i found that had a chin strap is £160 and meets with ce guidelines for working on ground. and is good to wear
  23. i have a large area of hazel do not do it full time wish i could but use it for getting hedgelaying material. want to start making charcoal, faggots. depends if wood is old and neglected if so there would be a lot of wood you could not use for hurdles, faggots and binders but good for charcoal and stakes. you may find a wood landowner would be happy for you to manage wood. but would want to see a workplan and references
  24. can any one recommend training for CS30/31 and climbing please in Hampshire.
  25. re small claims send a formal letter that they have 7 days to pay full sum or you will take court action. to do small claim you can do online. cost £100 to submit. then £40 for it to be read by judge. when putting in a small claim make sure you put everthing down you want to claim for including interest. and small claim is up to £5000. over this is fast track. then you need a solisiter to act for you this will be sent to the defendent who has 21 day to put a counter claim in or pay what is on the claim. if they do not do anything then the court will award judgment againts them and will be given 7 days to pay full amount. thats the easy bit if they counterclaim then you have to pay for it to be heard before a judge depending on sum. if they do not counterclaim or pay the court you then have to pay the courts to issue a baliff warrent to obtain the money. do your homework if you can find out are they ok for money. do they own there own company. do a search on companie house to see if they are trading ok or in the do da. if private do they have a good job if yes then you can get the court to issue a garnie to who they work for for it to come out of there wages each month to pay bill. when its a fair sum and holding out paying it makes your cash flow harder. i quote for all my jobs i do. in writing so they know what they have to pay. and say terms 7 days from date of invoice. you can charge interest believe its 5% per month on money owing. good luck on getting you money. as for canceling job 24hrs before starting is a bit below the belt. but what can you do make a fuss and still not get job
