  1. only one place to buy hedeging plants Murry Mc Clean abingdon nr oxford best plants you can get. does all the sundries. as for planting double row first two boot apart then diag boot apart. has pace but still tight. and can be laid in 10 to 15 years time
  2. good hurdle maker can make a hurdle in 2 hours. its having material ready to go. so its the time getting it splitting it making stakes to start them. guy i know cuts 2 acres at a time and takes back to his shed to make all the things he does
  3. faggots are used a lot for river bank inprovments. get all my stakes and binders. larger hazel use for firewood or charcoal. so much you can get from a hazel wood if you can do it. make chairs and seats. list goes on need to sort out doing charcoal this year. as for making a living know a few old boys who can and do make a living from coppicing. its getting a name for the products you do.
  4. as in my post i have just put on find the petzl are not for groundwork only arial work. as i found out today if something falls on your head not covered. i want a breathable hat but for ground. just checked there site and only do one for ground and its not ventilated so like the old builders hat
  5. i bought a petzl helmet not so long ago as they where more comfortable to wear and had the chin strap. unlike the normal helmets. whilst in local arb shop meet with a trainer to find my helmet is not for groundwork but just for aloft and so would not be covered on my insurance if something fell down. on the box it say nothing only arboriculture helmet read the small print says only for climbing. bit miffed as it was not that cheap to buy. and only helmets for groundwork are those horrible ones like builders hats which after a day wearing your head is sweating it rubs on your head. only one i found that had a chin strap is £160 and meets with ce guidelines for working on ground. and is good to wear
  6. i have a large area of hazel do not do it full time wish i could but use it for getting hedgelaying material. want to start making charcoal, faggots. depends if wood is old and neglected if so there would be a lot of wood you could not use for hurdles, faggots and binders but good for charcoal and stakes. you may find a wood landowner would be happy for you to manage wood. but would want to see a workplan and references
  7. can any one recommend training for CS30/31 and climbing please in Hampshire.
  8. re small claims send a formal letter that they have 7 days to pay full sum or you will take court action. to do small claim you can do online. cost £100 to submit. then £40 for it to be read by judge. when putting in a small claim make sure you put everthing down you want to claim for including interest. and small claim is up to £5000. over this is fast track. then you need a solisiter to act for you this will be sent to the defendent who has 21 day to put a counter claim in or pay what is on the claim. if they do not do anything then the court will award judgment againts them and will be given 7 days to pay full amount. thats the easy bit if they counterclaim then you have to pay for it to be heard before a judge depending on sum. if they do not counterclaim or pay the court you then have to pay the courts to issue a baliff warrent to obtain the money. do your homework if you can find out are they ok for money. do they own there own company. do a search on companie house to see if they are trading ok or in the do da. if private do they have a good job if yes then you can get the court to issue a garnie to who they work for for it to come out of there wages each month to pay bill. when its a fair sum and holding out paying it makes your cash flow harder. i quote for all my jobs i do. in writing so they know what they have to pay. and say terms 7 days from date of invoice. you can charge interest believe its 5% per month on money owing. good luck on getting you money. as for canceling job 24hrs before starting is a bit below the belt. but what can you do make a fuss and still not get job
  9. hi get a pair of chainsaw arm gauntlets. stop everything if gloves short. saw them in action on the IOW idela when a bit warm and you do not want to wear a jacket

    Soaked!

you are now a honorable member of the mermaids club:laugh1: a fine club for those who fall into water. welcome fellow new member. still to see a mermaid:biggrin:
  11. db owners club will be able to help
  12. they have not stopped swamp loggers love it but like all the american arb programmes. new one i like dangerous flights total bonkers what they do. how come there is not a british version of the axe men or like must be something similar going on over hear
  13. find a Mctimonty chripractor. they work with you and some use heated oils first to massage the area to get the mussels relaxed then by getting you to do certain things help to put what is out back. not a first visit fix but good. i have had syatic nerve problems and it still tingles now and again. i found the NHS a waste of space. but the best chap i had worked on horses as well and he fixed my syatic nerve and did not come back for over 10 years. but lower back strength exercise are the key. work with someone doing light things first then build up hope your back gets better soon. not nice and bloody painful
  14. all land is owned by someone even common land. the client who has asked you to fell these beeches can not legally ask you to fell them as they are not his but a unknown person or persons. he needs to do the ground work even if it means going to the archive office to see who has owned it going back in time. he may be able to find out that lord sod it all owned it in 1800 then sold it to a trust for bewildered birdies. or such like. it may even be crown land if so crown estates would be able to tell him its there's but to cut them down you could be in a right legal minefield and as you cut them down the blame will lay at your feet. even if you have a letter in writing from chap who wants them down.
  15. +1 the flat hose is good for directional work. as for shreeding leaves unless dry forget it just as quick to blow and pick up plus the suction unit is a pain to put on and off and on wet leaves blocks up all the time. given up using it unless dry then saves a lot of time.
  16. you can buy cracking little dumpers cheap. i have a 1 tonne highlift and its brill in woods use bin for timber and hitch longer stuff on back and haul out. and does not leave much of a footprint. as for going over garden. small compact 20hp with grass tyres will do the job and not leave any marks on lawn. unless lke now its so wet best to avoid. could wat untill warmer and cut grass while towing trailor of wood.
  17. look at a honda 4 stroke so no mixing and plenty of power and less money then the sthil have the strimmer and good bits of kit . if using it a lot like for a hour or so then look at a backpack one the handhelds can become heavy after using one for a time. been doing leaves and my shoulders ached after using it most of the day. will for this leaf fall be looking at getting a honda back pack blower. have a lot more power than the hand helds.
  18. if you want a good tool for picking up chip and co get a ballast fork i sold loads to arb boys for this job. wish i could get more. bought a load from the rail boys as handles all broke.
  19. where do you buy them doing hedgelaying as you know. i use welding gauntlets and good but be good to have a very good pair that last. how long do they last for
  20. i use welding gauntlets from tool station £3 a pair brill for blackthorn. as i lay hedges and blackthorn is the norm i find these very good not had a thorn go in them and for £3 can not go wrong. last a good time and once you have used them become easier to work in them. as for thorn beware keep a eye out and if it goes red go to doctor. blackthorn this time of year is nasty all the sap is rising so more potent than normal.
  21. only found out a couple of weeks back that privet can be laid. just need to cut side growth off cut the stems as for laying and lay it. and put small stakes diameter wise to weave the hedge so it keeps it firm. will regrow ok and will be firm close gaps and will not be holy in the bottom. and no need for binders on top
  22. have a look at the toro good mowers.
  23. +1 for kubota has more power than the rest. more like a 2.5 tonne machine ang goes on a trailor no prob used a lot for grave digging due to its long reach. when i have he cash thats what i will get. takachi good machines.
  24. +1 to all above. my decking i used a nail gun mistake big time. used proper decking screws as boards just started to lift. if i was asked to do a decking screws all the time pre drilled so wood does not split. as for in concrete or out mine is big and i sat it on 2x2 granite paving slabs which i sat on concrete. as for treating i use bedec barn paint preserves and gives colour very good product
  25. i have to say that with what i have read on hydro power and the latest units that a small mill stream is capable of producing more than a kv of power per hour. i wanted to find out what some of the mill races round here could produce i di have the formula to do it it was width of stream x depth x speed last bit was how to work out speed without having a knot meter. but water is there harness it not just let if flow out to sea doing nothing apart from the nature side of things. what would the cost be for a small hydro power unit for a mill stream. has to be as cheap as solar and far cheaper than wind. as for nuke power. rather use something else.
