  1. have one pub i took him cracking dry beech he left it outside to get wet complained wood was wet yes you left it outside. now got someone else supplying wood just as wet and its mouldy. was local no more. all my pub logs now go in big bags with cover to go over. all like it and keep taking more.
  2. are you looking to use it for work and using it a lot. if yes. Honda roller good mower poor discharge ok in dry but wet grass can block up. John Deer very good mowers. but tad on dear side. if you can find one a Toro very good mowers. do roller one. stear clear of mountfield domestic. try a guy called DJ Scott nr Winchester main toro dealer may have a second hand mower for sale. speak to Darren. do not think you will be disapointed with one lawnflite ok but a bit on the domestic side like mountfield Viking not had much to do with them so will not comment. just go on what i have seen and used
  3. i know hydropower is not the bee all but i have only to drive a mile and i know of at least 7 old flourmills which used water to drive the stone. where we have old mill races just with water rushing through doing nothing then what could 50 mills dotted around hampshire produce. we have coal mines. with coal but ot being used. with all the new filtration system we could burn this. its joke that a power station in calshot is running on gas ol rfinery next door. they put a pipeline from milford haven to it 160miles of pipe to feed it gas imported from abroad what was wrong with next door unloading it, take gas .
  4. re waste from households at marchwood those local is a large dome like tent with a chimney sticking out of top a large amount of waste normal for landfill is taken there and burnt, to generate electricity. its only a small piece in jigsaw. as for generating power we have so many rivers with mill streams once used for making flour or driving the looms. with the generators out now we could generate so much electricity form using water. without having tidal booms. but thats simple and those in power do not look at simple things. biomass came about good idear lets have biomass without looking where does all the chip going to come from. you need to have tree surgeons with chippers going 7 days a week in all the uk and still not keep up with demand.
  5. pm me be more than happy to talk. will take wood chip aswellmuch as you want to get rid off
  6. that size would not go in my woodburner to big mine are 6" long between 4" and 9" dia depending on size of ring split in half or 4 go in nice and burn well. mine is a 4kva stove and british made that size be ok as other post for a big open fire. go to a woodburning stove shop and see what size they use. then you know that majority of woodburners will use that size
  7. once had two dogs both resce one came from portsmouth so called him port the next one came along so called him starbourd or starby. cracking dogs both of them. had a lab called Cai cornish for dog. as for names wedge, oak, rowen, alder
  8. with spring on the horizon all you folks out there if messing with blackthorn this time of year. be careful handling it and wear thick gloves. so the thorns can not get through. speaking to a rhuematologist. she was saying that if you do get one go in any joint get the thorn out clean it and keep a eye on it if it does go red go to your doctor. blackthorn can damage the tendon in joints so making the joint become stiff and not work properly or loose all movement in that joint.
  9. some hazel has catkins on. so sap must be rising bit early. what do the trees know we do not. are they making seeds early before it becomes dry. and do not germinate
  10. +1 on all you say
  11. Pa1 is a days course learning all about different chemicals, how to read labels. what a certain say herbacide will do with its active ingrediant. then next day you do a exam. with mine we did the course. did a mock exam the next morning then took the test. closed book on a pc with multilpe choice qestions. and pass rate is 80% you can only get one qestion in each part 4 parts wrong more than one in one of the parts and its a fail. Pa6 day course learning to calibrate sprayer working out how much you ned to spray a square area. yo then walk 100mtrs spraying whilst someone times you then 100mtrs back being timed then you take the two times and get the average. you can then work out how much water you need and chemical. you then spray a course with all the gear PPE rubber boots, face mask and nitral gloves. need these to do course. and sprayer. you have to have worked it out to be able to spray without having any left over or run out before you finish the area. next day do the exam 2 hours plus. make sure you do it by the book and it will be the same as the course. and swat up on your nozzles they will ask you what different nozzles do and what spray the spray course, medium, fine make sure you keep pumping the sprayer. my mistake first time he let me do it again and it worked. as other posts get your water part aswell not much call for it ut you have it. need to do a refresher every 3 years. find a course that you can do it all in 4 days they are out there colleges a bit wooly on this forget need to earn a living so taken 3 days out of work is better than messing about
  12. £1k a month just does not pay your way if you are paying for everthing you use. and you are only working for one person who seems to be doing not bad by you what is he being paid by customer for total job. go and find some work on your own if you have the tickets and insurance etc bet you make more than £60 per day taken a tree down for someone. and as others have said whereabouts in country are you even if its just the county. may have offers of work as one post has done. but with no county those who may wish to offer you a trial can not as do not know
  13. re gardining work i quoted to do a contract looking after a fair bit of work. quoted £12 hr as would have been a day a week. undercut by £2 a hour. so i think what do i charge to get more work if being undercut by this
  14. the edge needs tuning. i use a dremmel with a stone ideal as you can not put to much grunt in so it brings the edge up just nice. then use a wet stoone to polish up should be able to cut a hedging stake into a point with 4 cuts. if it digs and looks like a beaver been attacking it not sharp as for weight. took me about 5 times to find the hook i was happy with. either to light to heavy had to much shoulder.. the one i have now a ewell hampshire pattern is the biz taken a bit to tune it but cuts lovely now. i also got a holder that is on belt so hook goes in when i finish so not on ground getting covered in crap and does not get lost
  15. did not know how big a area was needed to be cut. as other post drum mower. and the like water will slow it down and it will then start clogging up. have a look for one that goes on a pto of a tractor. used to use them for cutting hay fields. old one may need work.
  16. pm please dorset
  17. i watched the you tube but flicked through made my heart miss a beat what he was doing. never been in favor of laws but time has come if you want to use a saw then you have a cs ticket to buy will not stop accidents but may make those think on buying that its not worth it and bring the pros in to do so more work for you arb boys.
  18. hire a BCS with finger bar mower or as in the old days a alen sythe. you want it with spade lugs wheels iron wheels with lugs will go throught marshy ground and the bar mower will cut the rushes down no problem. a lot of trusts use them to cut there rushes and reeds. contact Tracmaster Burgess Hill they sell the BCS range. and maybe able to get you one to have on demo if you want to buy
  19. just listened to the show. what do chainsaw trousers do if it does not stop the chain unlike saying nothing will stop a saw. still makes joe think twice of going around with a chainsaw. as for climbing a tree with a ladder and scaffold say no more. shame they did not have a lecturer from one of the land base colleges to talk. maybe a better picture would have been portrayed. the speaker was not brill on phone. and could of made more of all the gear needed to take trees down when up a tree. using a harness and using saw with one hand. did not come over very well.
  20. cheers be interested
  21. i will have to speak to one of the site sponsors near me to see if when he has a show next he has one to play with. will not be to far for you from somerset. or have a electric chain saw demo day

  23. i have a hard plastic horsey wheelbarrow. never rusts has a non puncture tyre. it has a bigger bin than a metal one i have chucked logs in it left rotten horse do da in it still like new. runs on rough ground ok not hard work. if you want a barrow go and look in a horsey shop for one.
  24. if we enter the two comps for Dorset style. as we normally do not lay this style in the novice class are you able to ask for advice. eg on using the binder to make a hoop. if this is the case would like to have a go. the rest will be similar to south of England
