  1. i priced up getting an 8 wheeler about 3 years ago i was doing a lot of ground work & was in constant need of 8 peg tippers so i looked at going down the route of buying & operating when i had sat down with pen paper & calcuator i decided that it was bloody expensive to run an hgv in fact it was more than double what i had been thinking of!!!! the hgv route was not for me!!! it was a lot cheaper to use somebody else to cart our spoil on big jobs!!!
  2. if its registered as an agric it wont need an o licence!! i have worked for a guy who has 2 & they take a beating they are really good work horses he will not sell either of his (i have tried & offered lots of dough & some great swaps but it`s still no) he has worked them for the last 12 years i know of!!!!!! there road manner is not bad & as said above that phaser engine does give them a turn of speed!!!!!
  3. its a hycrack!! i also have a spurious one made from the kit off ebay which comes with the cone, bearings & drive shaft! its not bad but not a patch on the hycrack! i also have a harrows are us yellow 10 splitter off ebay for dealing with the bits not sutiable for the hycrack i.e really knotty bits with the hydraulic splitter i can nibble pieces off from round the knotts its just me being tight i`d rather use every last little piece rather than just toss the knotty pieces to the side of the yard!
  4. yeah metal in the wood makes the tip melt & it takes a good 20-25 mins of file work to get the point back good & sharp!!!! i melted mine week before xmas!!!!
  5. i`v had same problem!! i was issued with an enforcement notice the guy from the council came round had a looksey & was basically cushdy about the whole thing!! mog on drive no problem its on agric so not breaking any operators licences! truck & van on driveway he was more bothered about them as it was an excess of work vehicles on the driveway!! no problem park van outside on the road off the kerbside sorted!! machines in back garden lifes hard thats where they live there out of sight from the road so no problem there! i dont have customers calling round to the house for work doing so i am not running a business from home!! problem sorted!!! he only had to come back once more about 18 months later as the neighbours had complained i was now operating a builders yard from my front garden!! when in fact i was having an extension built!! but he was totally cool about the whole thing!! the man from the council is there to help you aswell!! if everybody else on the street is doing the same & have machines outside there houses its the guy who is complaining that is the odd one out! i believe he will struggle to get you to change your ways as one complaint is not really enough evedience in the councils eyes! they need a few people to build up a case against you
  6. the cone ends can be sharpened with either a triangle or half round file!!! i sharpen mine up on a regular basis!!!!

  10. fitted a new 20inch chain on mi husky first cut into a beech trunk that was 2ft dia just got about half way saw jumped chain brake kicked in brake off started to cut again saw was vibrating stopped looked at chain there was a whole chisel missing off the chain! ripped completely off!!!! i had hit a piece of half inch round bar which must have been used as a stake it ran about 3ft up the trunk!!!! was not happy!!!!
  11. clutch is a night mare its engine out job as its easier to get the lump out than it is to get the gear box out!!! i learnt that the hard way!!!
  12. thats what happened to mine it would run ok from cold but when hot normally on motorway it would start to miss fire & fart about it would keep going & get you off at the next junction let it cool down & carry on took it down isuzu dealer & they just put it straight in the workshop & sorted it out got it back next dinnertime they even did a couple of other jobs that were factory recalls but can not remeber what they were now!!!!! my iveco & disco td5 both put diesel into the oil you can smell it on the dipstick when you check oil level!!!
  13. iv had 5 troopers i have loved all of them & hated them aswell (there bloody expensive on parts & i`m good at driving em hard & breaking them!!!) 1x an old old 2.8td ran it for 18 months no real probs! 3x the good old 3.1td have run them for 6 years nothing out the ordinary gone wrong for age condition & what used for! 1x 3.0td ran for 1 year i have always used the troopers for towing 3.5 ton trailers normally fully loaded so can not comment on a great fuel economy as i`v always worked em hard!!! 25 mpg on a good day down hill with a tail wind:001_tongue: i had a couple of probs with the 3 litre it was 4 years old when i got it & both were factory recalls so were sorted foc even though it was not under warranty one was fuel system & other electrical should have all been sorted by now!!!! if anything the 3l was a little under powered compared to the 3.1 but it is not too noticable problem areas rot on inner sills & on chassis near rear suspension & the lower ball joints go on em & are very expensive to buy & a bitch to fit apart from that just check it over like any other truck you would be looking to buy!!!
  14. i use 60x45cm bags i get between 33 & 40 bags per cube 8 out of 10 times its 35 bags per cube!!!!
  15. liking the advice!!!! i`m thinking .17 for hares theres a very large population of them & a hell of a lot of damage is being caused by hare coursers driving round the field chasing the dogs in subaru`s so to stop the damage the farmer wants the hare population lowering to a sustainable level not wipe them out just thin them out he also said target the older ones so he`s thinking along the right lines for me i`v had a couple with the .22 rimmy but most are staying away from the lamp as they have had an education with the coursers so i need something with a bit more range & accurate when it gets there!!!! the grouping on my .22 cz at 100 yards is a tad too big for my liking to use it in the field at that range on live quarry at 80 yards it is a nice tight group but beyond that the pattern gets a tad big!!
  16. i have 2 logun glai8ors or gladiators depends on whos selling them!! i have one sub 12 foot pound & one fac they are a great gun 664cc of air on board in 2 buddy bottles 8 shot mag & the triathalon bolt action all synthetic so no wood to damage has 3 stage power on sub 12 foot pound its 12 8 6 foot pound & on fac 35 20 12 foot pound really good for shooting pigeons in barns as you can decrease the power of the gun by flick of a switch so you do not damage the roof sheets!!!! really good guns i keep toying with the idea of getting a hw 100 there a real nice piece of kit but very heavy for stalking so would only be used from truck or quad!!!! think i need a 17hmr before another air rifle though!!!!! sorry for the thread jack!!!!
  17. thats a good way to get yer ferret killed!!!! i`v had a ferret nearly killed by a rat the jill was only down for 2-3 mins & when she got out half her face was torn up really bad (i mean really bad) & had to be put down!
  18. mi dad had a .22 shotgun (was smoothed bore) it was not really any good most rats just shook themselves & ran off!!!!! the carts were expensive aswell!!!!
  19. i`v seen the same dexta a mate always worked rats with his ferrets & they were true biters!!!! they got hold & meant it & would only let go when submerged in water!! i would rater smoke em out for the terriers or in my case bobery pack (a mix of any type of dog terrier, alsation ect) last winter between xmas & new year i had a call from a farmer i shoot pigeons for & he told me there were thousands of rats on his middin tip he was not lying there were truely thousands of them i had a good week shooting them with the air rifle i was there from 8 on a morning to 9-10 at night i was getting about 40 an hour to start with then it would die off for a couple of hours & then the action would start again!!!! on the last day i only got 80 all day the following day we got the dogs & the smoker in the dogs claimed another 214 rats in 5 hours!!!! it was an epic week for me!!!! the first time i had emptyed my dive bottle in a week thats for sure!!!!!
  20. a load of bunkem!! most ferrets worked to rat will eventually give up & become work shy of rats as they know what battle awaits them below ground!!!! the same ferret will willingly still work rabbit!!!
  21. i must say i do love a spot of ratting any form hiting em with a stick, air gun, terrier, digging or smoking em out or even wasting money & shooting em with the .410!!!!! i`v had ferrets really torn up by rats that were in rabbit warrens 1 was that badly injured it had to be put down! so i would definatly not put a ferret on to a rat on purpose!!!!! the 4ft rat was a coypu!!! there was a big debate abut it in the shooting press!!!! every dog should be vaccined against weils disease as all dogs love to drink from puddles! & thats where they will catch it!!!! i have tried peanut butter & oil mixed & have had good results with it!! i`m now off to get me some nutella! asap!!!!
  22. i really need to get me one of those tool box things theres too much sh*te kicking about in my tractor!!!!
  23. everybody used to laugh at my rover 45 2l td it went like stink & used the most frugal amount of diesel i only paid 230 quid for it with 10 months mot 2 months tax & 1/4 of a tank of diesel & 4 new budget tyres it had 210`000 on the clock in 2 years time it had 260`000 on the clock it`s end came when some old giffa run up the arse of it in a volvo i do mis the heated leather seats & the real wood dash board was handy for nailing a new air freshener to!!!!!!:001_tt2: it was that bad the insurance did not want to take it away & asked me if i could scrap it so that went on the back of an iveco!!! it had a quality last ride!!
  24. i`m in need of a few cubic meters of kiln dried logs to keep a very good customer happy does anybody in the leeds / west yorks area having any spare?? any help will be greatly appreciated!! cheers dave
