  2. that sounds about the right pace for me!!!!!!
  3. could you post a couple of pics of it with out the bags on it i like the look of it & would like to copy it cheers dave
  4. i`v had 2 like that this week!!!! proper know it alls!!!! the first one even said they had just had the stove fitted yesterday!!! then starts telling me that i dont know anything about firewood!! wtf??????? the second one only wanted beech & ash logs as all other wood is no good for burning!!!! lmfao!!!!! i did think about selling him a load of white ash thats stuck at the back of the yard!!!!! i do find it funny that people who have only had a wood burner for a few months or couple of years & dont know how to use it properly demand that all the beech & ash trees be felled so they can burn them to keep warm!!! and dont get me started about people trying to get money off!!! my favourite at the moment is customers keep asking for money off as theres a recession on dont you know believe me luv if i had known i would have asked for double & then knocked you 25% off as a recession beating price!!!!!
  5. mabey so with some builders merchants i always by loose so am not sure as to the weight of a bulk bag of building sand as i heard it called in the merchants today!!!! they kept away from using the ton word! thats for sure!!!!!!
  6. i`v got the ebay cheapie the exact same one in the link it does the job i was recommended that one by a friend who specialises in damp proofing houses!
  7. i can get 2 builders bags into one of my cubic meter bags!!!! i thought long & hard about this & have been involved with other posts about selling in a true cubic meter threads!! after thinking about it i have decided that a steel box with an internal measurement of 1m in every direction is the way forward! i have now bought a 1m3 tipping skip which i loose fill with logs i give it a bit of a jiggle & if neccesary stick in a couple more logs or so! this then fills the bags like the shaken bag in the original post!!!!! i have asked my bag supplier about the volumes & they have said a cubic meter of logs will bulge the sides out on the bag which means it will not be full to the top so there will be excess bag which will stop logs from falling out of the bag during transit it is same for the .5m3 bags for sand or gravel they are not full to the top with a ton in them as the sides bulge out & this stops any spillage during transit! as already stated if both you & the customer are happy then all is well! i have had no complaints so far!!
  8. now thats how hse should be!!!!! dont play with it & theres no chance of getting hurt by the machine or operator!!!!
  9. not a nice sight!!!!! hopefully all should be well with a good service & a bit of tlc!!!! good luck!!!!
  10. a straight answer is what looks right for the conditions you are using the truck in!!! if on the black stuff carry normal weight & towing around the 40 mark give or take you want the whole of the tread on the road with a bit of belly in the sidewall but not too much belly!!!!! and as tuttle says above alter presures according to the conditions!!!!!
  11. touch wood i have never gone through a gas pipe or electric cable fiber optic cables (for cable tv ect in the green ducting) water pipes & drains are the things i destroy on a regular basis with the mini digger!!!!! i repair the water pipes & drains myself but for the fiber optic i get virgin out to repair them!! i have never been charged for this as there cables are only just under the surface & they seem to rather just get them repaired & keep there customer happy! if i am doing ground works for people i have them sign that they are responsible for any underground cables & pipes & it is up to them to locate & mark where they are! and even then if i dig through them i will not be held liable!!
  12. apply for a barn for a livestock shelter then once up apply for change of use to a timber store or apply for change of use to residential dewelling! which is more the route i would take!!!!!
  13.:lol: love it!!!!! nice looking water tower!!!!
  14. i used to be full time buying selling cars & vans i used & still do use when i am buying either for myself or to sell on mycarcheck.com they have never ever let me down!!! you can get a multi vehicle check for cheap money too which is worth looking at as you are not likely to buy the first van you see!!!!
  15. have a looksey at parcel2go.com i have got allsorts of stuff shifted through them they have pallet deliverys onboard aswell so it`s worth a search!!
  16. where i`m based about 96% of my customers have 5kw stoves the other 4% have the likes of 16kw stoves i just cut all my logs to between 8-12 inches all of which i know full well will fit in my 5kw stove so i know they will fit in any other stove of 5kw or above & they fit nicely on an open fire too!! it saves me time & hassle i work out of a small yard so it is easier for me to just do one size range of logs it has worked well for the last 16 years i wanted double the money as i had to hand ball them back on the truck take em back to base & run them one at a time through the circular saw then deliver them back so i wanted the same amount of money again for doing all that! plus the guy was quite arsey about it if he had been sound i would probs not have charged him anything near double but when the guy calls me & says the logs are all 2 feet long & are not seasoned as they are 18% moisture & they should be at the most 6% i just did not want to deal with him i know what my logs are like & non of them are 2feet long!!!!!
  17. it does look very blunt to me a sharpen & try different revs i use mine on just a touch under the halfway mark on the hand throttle! the coat sleeve disapearing round the cone was sh*t scary untill i reliased i was not still in it then all i could do was laugh!!! it was bloody close & has given me an eye opener!!
  18. here we go again!!! i love this topic!!! i sell my logs in 1 cubic meter bags i.e 1000 litres 1m3 100cm x 100cm x 100cm 1m3 the logs are loose filled in the bags so theres logs & air space the customer is buying the bag they see no more no less if they want 2 cubic meters its 2 bags if they thought it was going to be bigger or they ordered 2 cubic meters & expected 2 meters cubed i.e 8 cubic meters then they dont have to buy them & theres no hard feelings there number is stored in my phone under timewaster & i wont deal with them again but even delivering in 1 cubic meter bags can have problems i have just delivered to a chap last week who called me up an hour after i had delivered his logs to say i had short changed him & the cubic meter of logs was not a full cubic meter as when he had stacked it in his 1 cubic meter log store it was not full! and the week before i delivered to another guy who rang me back the next day to say the logs i had delivered him were no good as they were 2 feet long & would not fit in his stove even though i only cut logs upto 12 inch with an average of 8-9 inch i went to have a look & he had some form of micro stove which you could only get a 5 1/2 inch log in tounge in cheek i suggested he invest in a chop saw!! he was not happy when i said i wanted double the money for tiny logs!!!!
  19. i did not get a scratch either i just had a loose piece of material hanging form my jacket which whilst picking up a split piece of wood the material made contact with the point & woosh it was wrapped round the cone!!! there was probs 7 or 8 inches of material flapping about from the underside of the arm of my jacket just up from the cuff so i was asking for it really! serves me right for being tight & not buying a new work coat sooner!!!! i have used my screw type splitter for a good number of years with out any form of accident probs why complacency had set in!! i have never trapped my fingers or been bitten by the cone just on the day in question your honour i was being a tad silly!! i guess its good to have an eye opener every once in a while it reminds us to watch what were doing!!!!
  20. they dont bite too often in the last 18 months i have lost one glove & only one sleeve off my jacket!!! both in the same incident!!! it was my own fault you should not wear loose fitting clothing near any spinny thingy my sleeve was torn & hanging loose the spinny thingy bite hold of it & took it & my glove!! i had the end of my sleeve tucked into my gloves so they did not get caught up but did not do any thing about the loose material from the tear in my jacket!!!
  21. the cone needs to be really pointy you can sharpen it with a half round file!!! i run mine on 540rpm & enough engine revs my rev counter dosent work i just know when it sounds about right if not give it more or less is how i have been working it!!!!! stop rope is a good idea aswell!!!!!
  22. i get mine from the nearest hydraulic supplies you know the place where you would go to get a hose made most have special deals on hydraulic oil! cos if youve just bust a pipe you will need more oil to top up!!!
  23. a working & hunting breed of dog needs a lot of exercise every day!!!!! ours gets at least an hour every day & he will walk run hunt all day long with no problems!! beagles have been bred for centurys to hunt hares which they do quite well!! given the chance & will follow one for as long as it takes to catch it!! just make sure yours dosent as with the stupid hunting act you will be breaking the law! but chasing rabbits is allowed & not illeagal!! a bit of good beagle reading is jeremy hobson`s book on beagling published by david & charles isbn 0-7153-8923-8 its an old book but still a good read to a beagle owner another good book about the breed is beagles by e. fitch daglish a very old book but has a lot of good pointers ebay would be best place to get either (it`s where i got mine)
  24. i had a play in a true 6x6 defender at an off road centre it was a good spec it was warn winch equipped at both ends with wire rope had a roll cage bull bar spotlights ect & it weighed in at 3600kg so it could not be driven on a post 1996 drivers licence it went anywhare i tried to take it with ease i truly liked it espically when i reliased that the extra axle gave a better climbing angle & stopped you grounding out the arse end when trying to climb a near vertical banking! but the truck was no good to me as my licence would not allow me to drive it!
  25. i use jimpex bags from bradford they advertise on fleabay!
