  1. right so the guy was using a chain saw in a public park cutting up a tree that did not belong to him! fallen timber or standing tree either way it is still theft & putting the public at risk! the guy died stealing i do not like thieves of any kind! as said above if he had been a teenage hodie, immigrant or traveller & he had been steling a chainsaw everybodys reaction would have been different! stealing is stealing! end of! i work hard for my money & pay good money for cord wood & would not dream of pulling up in a park & start cutting down or cutting up trees that i found there! when i`m out walking my dog i see people stealing wood all the time i explain to them that they are stealing & every one of them says its only a bit of wood as if that makes it ok? they are taking saws & wheelbarrows into the local woods & cutting down trees & fences & then taking them home to burn! in my book that is criminal damage & theft which last time i checked was still illegal in great britian!
  2. have heard of 2 tanks where the home owners were away / out theives hiab`ed the tanks full of oil straight onto a wagon & replaced it with an empty one so it did not look sus to the neighbours!! now for some karma a neighbour had there shipping containers cut open using a porta pack oxy acetalene cutting torch luckily the containers were empty at the time! the thieves used a red bmw estate car with very distinctive alloy wheels which was captured on all cctv cameras 2 nights later on front page of local evening post is the very same car that had exploded due to a leak on the porta pack a quick call to the investigating officers & they 2 guys whos car it was are now doing time for a string of break in`s! shame there wernt in the car when it went up!
  3. you wont see the price back hence why i said buy one but dont sell it!! the tipper unit on my cabstar has been on 4 chassis cabs now & is soon liable to go onto another one! just buy a nice tidy pick up get your own tipper body fitted work the nuts off it then put the nice clean tidy standard back back on it & sell it buy another nice clean pick up & the cycle continues! this way you get your moneys worth out of the tipper unit & are not looking for another tipper when you sell your existing truck you can easily source just any type of pick up which your tipper unit will fit on!
  4. thats top draw is that!!!! love it!!! i was thinking about getting a tuk tuk with a tipper conversion but import cost was going to be too much!!!!
  5. dont sell your old back body! keep it so when you sell your truck it can go back on & your tipper body can go on your new truck!!! i have had the same tipper body on 4 different chassis cabs! also when i have put the orignial back tub back on the truck has looked a lot cleaner & tidier than a lot of others advertised so has brought more money back in when sold! would also like to know where i casn get one of these log delivery bikes complete with tipping unit????????
  6. this is a similar size to mine & at the min is cheapest on ebay 1.6 TON TIRFOR WINCH | eBay
  7. just look for a second hand tirfor winch! they are quality & will last a life time mine has 30m of cable! & pulls 2.7 tons but the bigger ones will pull a lot more upto 15 ton i think!
  8. i`v had a letter asking for money from 2008!!! i have not paid it & wont pay it tough luck!!! back in the day i got more work & quality work out of the thomson local than i ever got from yell! the calls from yell were nearly always timewasters which also meant my evenings & weekends & my diesel was wasted going to price up work!!! also when i was in / on yell i got loads of calls from other companies that wanted me to advertise with them i was getting between 5 & 15 calls a day like this which just really annoyed me & wasted more of time answering the phone to these idiots!
  9. thats basicaly what is called a tirfor winch! have a look on ebay i got one for 25 quid a couple of months back!!! & yes it will do the job you want!!!
  10. it should still be in the back of the shed somewhare!!! i know i left it in there!! might have a rummage when the weather picks up!!!!
  11. i would have had to have bought it i paid 40 for mine just for the fun of trying to use it!!!!
  12. i started using chainsaws in the mid 1990`s & i learnt using a mc culloch saw it was an old metal case affair then i moved onto a mc culloch californian pro saw which was a nice bit of kit! they did the job! & did it well!!! i then moved on to stihl as i was told they were the mutts nuts but quickly regreated selling the old mc cullochs! i quickly bought a husky & have never looked back!!!
  13. that will have been a danarm with the villers engine on it!! it was a 2 man affair with a small guard & handle on the other end of the bar! i bought one a couple of years ago it is classed as a 2 man felling saw or a planking saw & runs half inch chipper chain! its a beast when running i only used mine once!! was a heavy piece of kit & nobody wanted to hold the sharp end of the saw!!!! not even me!!!!
  14. i think the answer is it is going to sit there untill it is dry however long that takes!!! and then i`m going to burn every last piece myself! to enjoy the fruits of my labours!!!!
  15. i`v had loads of other wood ash oak birch cherry beech etc cut & stored in the same way the exact same way & that is always below 25% mc on internal reading normally within 3-4 months if i`m doing something wrong i dont know what i have always stored my wood raised off the ground on pallets in an open sided shed that has the highest side facing south to catch more sun!with wire sides & pallet devides to allow airflow through the piled wood! the sweet chestnut is on an end aswell so has wind blowing at it from 3 angles!! so dont know why its not dry yet!!
  16. yeah 1.5% buyers premium at york and recently as in it started on wednesday!!!! i heard quite a few complaints about it in the que to pay!!!!!
  17. its already in fire sized pieces & has been for 2 years & the bugger still wont dry!!!! i split a piece today 20% out side mc 38% inside mc theres about 10 m3 in the shed it can just sit there untill it is dry enough to burn!!!!
  18. he probably is!!! once you get off this little island you find wagon & machinery drivers that do things on a daily basis that the hse would hang them for!!! i must admit to having unloaded some big twigs in a very similar manner off a 3.5 tonner when i had no fork lift in the yard!!!!
  19. have been told by an old boy who used to be a timber merchant back in the day that sweet chestnut or spanish as he called it was a bugger to dry & can some times take years espically if it was a big stem it had come from! the tree i got was 3 feet dia at base going up to 2 feet at the top of the stem it is not taking up too much room so it can just sit there for the next year or two untill it is dry enough to burn! this is my first experience of sweet chestnut i wont let it put me off just yet!!!! i love the smell of it in the wood shed really is nice!!!!
  20. awesome van!!! its the hilux of the van world!! a bizillion times better than a transit connect!!! but thats just my bias opinion! i`m big into toyota`s (well hiace`s & hiluxs any way) they never let you down! my last hiace was 10 years old & had 235`000 on the clock when the speedo cable snapped i then ran it for another 2 years doing about 15-20`000 a year! a guy down the pub bought it off me& still has it & he works in london so it travels from leeds to london 2 times a week every week at least & is still going strong he rekons he does about 60`000 a year in it & he`s had it 3 years now so it is pushing half a million miles now! only basic servicing fresh oil, air, fuel & oil filter every 5000 miles & they will run for ever the african export men want them in any condition dead or alive as they know how good they are!!
  21. yep it is in my log store barn all the other wood in there is seasoned below 25% mc on inside after a few months the sweet chestnut just wont dry it will burn the outer ok but as soon as it burns through to the inner part of the log it just hisses & then slowly goes out! it looks like good dry wood but will not burn due to the high mc on the inner part of the log! when you split one of the logs you can see it is wet with a dry ring round the edge!
  22. i`v got some 2 year old cut & split sweet chestnut in the yard it is still giving a reading of 38% mc in the centre & 25% mc on the outside!! at this rate it will be 5 years old at least before it is ready to burn!!!!
  23. i send all sorts by pallet on a regular basis i use these guys Speedshift Pallet delivery & Pallet collection a 120cm x 100cm x 180cm pallet weighing upto 1200kg inc vat to uk mainland comes to £54.06 thats your delivery sorted people will pay more for ready built!!!!! saves messing about with instructions & will be less hassle on the phone!!!! mines a cizzer thanks!!
  24. I'v hired them In on several occasions there a quirky piece of kit! They do feel unstable untill you get used to them! They are good machines & are very versatile! As for purchasing one myself I went down the skidsteer route but that was more to do with a tighter turning circle in the yard & I had the chance of a good skidsteer at cheap money!
  25. i have run ivecos for over ten years now! i started with a 35-8 then 3 35-10`s & 2 35-12`s they are the mutts nuts for carrying weight (sorry officer) & towing a heavy trailer (sorry officer) the 2.8 turbo ones are the real daddy of 3.5 ton trucks the newer shape trucks with the 2.8 have the same engine as the old models the engine is good & strong & just pulls like a freight train! also they are fixable with out the need for a laptop wich is always a plus side!!! the front suspension is adjustable on the back end of the torsion bar which is very handy to make the truck look less loaded espically if you have uprated springs on the rear!!! i still run an old iveco 35-10 with a 2.8 turbo in it she is a bit smokey on start up but clears & it will pull a load from one end of the country to the other with no problem!
