  1. cool mog!!!!! i really miss my old u900 mog! i really really need another mog!
  2. i love my screw type splitter great on the big rings for green wood you have to give the splitting cone a tickle with a file to get it nice & sharp so it cuts in easier & dosent just drill a hole in the ring!
  3. im semi rural based the houses round here are small & so my customers have small stoves so i cut logs to between 8-10 inches which seems to suit my customers i have not had any complaints
  4. hycrack all the way!!!!!
  5. it depends on how local to home what size tractor i.e amount of diesel it would use & what type of wood you will be splitting! i would be wanting around the £35 per hour, minimum of 4 hours, based on traveling to the next village & running my 70 hp tractor to spin the hycrack, splitting a mixed bag of ready cut hard & soft wood
  6. for the last couple of years i have sorted my logs in to different grades quality hardwood seasoned logs like ash oak beech ect are in one log store & i ask a high price for & have plenty of regular custom for them i wont lower the price as they dont eat anything so if they dont sell this year they are there for next year then all the poplar & other misc types that dont last as long in the fire i stick in another shed & ask a lower price for, or if a customer says my quality hardwood is too expensive i then offer them the lower grade which they normally accept i now have a regular customer base for the lower grade then conifer & other softwoods are in another store & are priced to sell i sell most softwood in net bags to local retailers which is a growing market! and if i have anything that is rotten or is bad for splitting i stick it in ton bags & fleabay it! to get rid! but i am fortunate enough to have the room & time to sort them out
  7. seriously dude direct hit!!!! i`v since made some modifications as in a guard to stop the same happening again plus the piece i was trying to split had a sloping top cut which i think helped it slip & shoot out at me i will send you a pm of where i got my screw type splitter from!
  8. i have used the old pto saw benches for about the last 19 years i first used one when i was 13 & i`m now 32 & still have all my limbs & digits!!! i sold my saw bench last winter as i decided that one of the newer covered saws with log rack would make life a whole lot easier!! and it has!! life is also a lot safer!!!! the old pto bench saw was a frightening thing when it was on full song & it was a bitch keeping it sharp!!! as for the screw type splitters i use mine more than my hydraulic one i find it a faster way to split wood! i also find it safer ever since a piece of knotty timber shot out from between the splitting blade & table & hit me square in the balls!!!!
  9. i`m the same with laburnham the dust from cutting & splitting really gets my asthma going!!!!
  10. hi i`m after getting some prices for both hard & soft wood timber for firewood preferably sutiable for going through a processor i`m based in leeds west yorkshire if anybody could help with prices or supply or delivery it would be greatly appreciated! cheers dave
