well at least i'm getting a broad range of guesses. to summarise it's not robinia, rhododendron, walnut, sycamore, poplar, ash, horse chestnut or any type of conifer... it is a hardwood though.

the only green bark i know of is a snakebark maple, look up one of those.

didn't whittle technically speaking but i turned the bulk of it for a huge 16" spoon for my dad to make jam with so he could reach the bottom of this huge steel pot he used to use. not sure if we've still got it but if we have i'll take a pic.

don't suppose i could pinch a ring of it could i??? that drum i'm still to make would look great in cherry. need a bit about 12" long. needs to be a bit without knots or branches though, is there such a piece there?

unless you are hell bent on making planks i'd suggest you don't need a mill set up. i manage without one quite easily and simply cut logs to length and slice accordingly with my chainsaw.

use it for firewood??? how dare you suggest such a thing:lol: that's a cracking bit of wood you go there mate bit i don't know it's value as is. dried boards would be about £80ft3 so work out its volume and sell it at a quarter of the £80. best guess is that i would want at least £100 for a bit that pretty

lit ours the other night and set it on full heat to clear any crap that was in the flue, boy that was hot... should be clear now though and only expect to need it by end of next week unless the temp drops a bit...

tulip wood is a bit better than poplar but if used in the right way then it's great wood. uses include, snowboard cores, matches, chopsticks, harp soundboards, electric guitar bodies, model making, pallet wood, plywood, carcasing timber, food containers, crate boxes, kitchen utensils, core timber for veneering on to and anywhere that need a light weight timber.

poplar should dry without too much trouble mate. protect it from worms though...

if you can take it down in two halves then drop it off at j7 of the m4 then i'll take it. otherwise i'll have to leave it. please don't let it go to waste...

£5 per block+ postage which will be under £10. that's for any wood. i recommend the makore or mahogany myself as they look great. just looked at the cedar and it has a split down it so forget that. i only had the one bit anyway. the sycamore i have for my skittles is pretty as he put it so would be fine for this too. i do have some jatoba and santos mahogany but these are in 6"x 3 1/2" plank form not spindles but they are really nice timbers if you want to consider them...

hi dave would this be a bowl blank or a really short spindle blank? i could supply you with mahogany, wenge, oak, cedar, makore or sycamore.

ok they sell things to do with saws but calling themselves sawbit's. sounds like a nasty condition i don't want...
