  1. A bit of a heads up in regards to the chainsaw strop attachment loop. We have been issued with new improved loops by Husqvarna due to a small minority failing. It has been mentioned in a few threads so quite a few of you are probably aware of it. So, if you have a 540 give the dealer you purchased the saw from a call to either arrange to have it fitted or posted out to you.Not everyone wants to leave their contact details so it can be hard to chase people up. The new part has a grey plastic bit as opposed to the original black plastic bit or TPU to give it its correct technical name!
  2. You probably have it sorted now but here is the pic I mentioned although a bit of a poor one!
  3. The part number is 544 80 76-01 and the price is £10.36+ VAT
  4. Husky site list the ring for the 50cc, the old part number has been superceeded but I cant get prices or stock levels due to time of night(it stops working after about 22:00)
  5. That's the one. It's a 3/8 low profile as fitted to most top handle saws. I'll try and get a pic up of all the info as 2 stroke ady says it's all on the back of a husky chain box.
  6. Will do. False teeth and walking sticks! Yep the large caps will fit the 135/140, they also fit the 236 so my bad for messing that one up! I reckon im too old to pimp up my car but I reckon I can get away with a little bling on the saws!
  7. Right yes I should have said those saws will use the larger cap which is in stock and available now its just the small ones not in stock yet.Husqvarna Fuel and Oil Flip Tank Cap The reason I couldnt get the part numbers as I was on the ipad and the missus had the PC. They are if anyone needs them are Small cap 577 87 86-01 Large cap 522 62 00-01 What I meant by asking local dealer was just because they arent available yet so if you frequented there it might be worth getting him to get some in stock but I do appreciate you buying from us though:thumbup1: as you say its a lot more convenient especially when there are jobs to price up and quotes/invoices to type up after the cutting has been done! The problem with trying to cross match them is that there is loads of different styles of cap that will physically fit but just look different, and Husky only specify what cap comes with what saw. If that makes any sense.
  8. Well I suppose its because its tool less, if Stihl had made tool less caps for the 046, 066 etc I would have well bought some. But mainly its because as Mark said they look better. When you've got a saw as nice looking as a 550XP the old cap looks garbage, they wouldn't look out of place on Fred Flintstones car. I mean only old people wouldn't understand a bit of bling.
  9. There are two sizes of flip cap that I know about which should cover most of the old and new range. There are a few odd ball ones like the 236 which is a different type of thread. As a very rough guide anything over 50cc should take the large size caps, 50cc and under will be a mix of small and large. Although I will be happy to be proved wrong if anyone can help out as I dont have access to that many older husky saws. Officially Husky list the new small flip caps for the 550XP and 545 only. I dont have the part numbers with me atm but if your looking to buy from your local dealer etc husky have just updated the IPL for the 550XP which has all the new info on.
  10. Always been a massive problem when working over footpaths. People just push themselves and prams and young kids through, over, under, tape, cones and barriers because they walk that route everyday! We just never rely on joe public to actually stop and walk around or stop and wait for assistance and always have to look out for them. Have had a few people complain that they are getting covered in sawdust while standing by the drop zone after pushing some cones out of the way to get there! I do wonder how many utilities lads turn around to find pedestrians blocking up their trenches
  11. Yep thats the good thing with the caps they still screw in but have the flippy bit. They will fit nearly all of the husky saws now. Excellent, I have quite a few already sold to lads who bought the 540 from us. There is a good chance they will sell out quick so if anyone wants me to put some to one side then PM me or get onto your local dealer and get him to order some in quick They are far better than the old design, been using them on our 560 for the last few weeks and they are great.
  12. Finally Husky have started producing them! Got a new batch of 550XP's in this week to find out they had the new flip caps fitted! Which means they will now fit the T540XP 346XP etc, etc. Just as a quick heads up 550/346 etc have two different size caps, the samll one for the oil tank and the large one for the fuel, the T540xp has the same size cap for both tanks. The small ones can be ordered here Husqvarna Fuel and Oil Flip Tank Cap BUT as the description states they arent available to purchase separately yet, we have a lot on order as the large ones sold very well so as soon as they are here in the UK we will get them in.
  13. A big thanks for all the replies and info, very much appreciated I have advised them that it is FFP and that I will pass them details of another LOLER inspector who has detailed knowledge of arb equipment and its HSE requirements/recommendations etc.
  14. Quite a bit to read through and digest there! In response to a few questions of why not replace the DA with a TA, well TBH its a £160 item that was designed for a job that it does very well so the guy is loath to get an angle grinder on it! I dont blame him. I dont understand how it can come down to personal opinion/interpretation (no offence to anyone) as to why a piece of kit can/should or cant/shouldnt be used to conform with HSE, best practice etc. Surely it should be black and white. Does an Employer know where he stands if one inspector says its OK but another says definitely not. Who should he trust? Least me selling said item of kit! The only piece of literature I have to go on is AFAG401 which allows the use of DA only by omission that it doesnt say what should be used on WP lanyards! Regardless of whether its safe or not(imo it is without doubt safe enough) how many non LOLER inspectors would let an employee use a DA WPL now, Or for that matter spend out on one when it might get knocked back on your next inspection? It comes down to a duty of care thing rather than common sense and experience unfortunately, imo.
  15. Cheers for the replies and info fellas. Although it looks like more questions required to try and clarify things, as I will need some black and white evidence if the customer is to convince his company that he can use the piece of equipment as the inspector has no right to fail it. So, the LI (loler inspector) basically checks to see if a piece of equipment works to spec and is serviceable, he doesnt need to know what its being used for? Can DA snaps can be used in tree work in regards to HSE recommendations? I presume they can as the manufactures of said products promote their use in tree work and many retailers like myself sell those pieces of equipment primarily for the use in tree work. IF the above is in correct ie HSE says no, then im surprised I haven't heard this mentioned before! I have looked through the HSE web site and through all the related documents and drawn a blank as to looking for a black and white 'use this for this', the only thing I find is in AFAG 401 where they state a triple action karabiner should be used for connecting the harness to a lifeline, says nothing about connectors on lanyards.
  16. Im going to go for a shameless plug and say we sell them at that price but free shipping:blushing:http://www.skylandequipment.com/machinery/chainsaws/husqvarna/husqvarna-236-chainsaw-14 BUT, I will also add that we have been using one for the last few months(still involved in the tree side of things) and TBH its not a bad saw.As long as you remember its not a £500 pro saw so not compare it to a 550/260 then its quite good. If you could get a decent second hand pro saw at that price then I would go for that instead but otherwise you could do far worse than the 236.
  17. Had a customer contact us saying his LOLER inspector had failed his wire core lanyard as the snap hook wasn't a triple action and was therefore 'illegal'. Now I'm fairly sure he is wrong and as far as I'm aware triple action is recommended for primary lifelines although I cant find any info in regards to work positioning lanyards. I spoke to our suppliers who said this is the first time they have heard this product failing a LOLER inspection in this way. So, my questions are, was the LOLER inspector right to fail it as it should be a triple action snap hook? If so is there any literature out there that states the need for a TA? If he is incorrect again is there literature out there so I can show it to my customer as I doubt his LOLER inspector is going to take my word or that of the importers. Any info would be very much appreciated.
  18. Yes we are husky main dealers, I was part way through ordering some gear from them when I saw your post. Those parts are coming in at £72.94 + VAT. Not sure how that compares to getting them from the US though.
  19. Just had a look on the husky site and it says they are all in stock To get the chain cover it looks like you need to buy number 1 which also includes chain brake handle plus quite a few other bits you probably dont need unfortunately!
  20. I was just going to ask if you had tried it on 13mm but looks like you've already answered that one. The difference between using it on 13mm to 11.5 was like night and day! I hope they make it a bit more versatile this time around, or at the least have a couple of different sizes available.
  21. I would take the exhaust off as it probably is in there. If not there I would remove the carb, if no luck then remove the cylinder as I've never tried that idea of filling it with petrol etc. I certainly wouldn't want to start it without getting the bit of rope out first!
  22. The -02 has superseded the -01 Husky list this as where used K650 Cut-n-Break, 2007/08-01 The RRP is £87.90 ex VAT if it helps with pricing.
  23. That is extremely cheap! I didnt think you could get engine oil that cheap anymore. We buy direct from oregon, husky plus others including an oil manufacture who mix the oil for some of the mentioned companies and it certainly costs us a lot more than £1 litre ex VAT.The engine oil is even dearer as it has more additives in it. We used to use cheap engine oil along time ago when it was something like £2/£2.5 for 5 litres. Never had an issue with bars/chains wearing prematurely. Changed to 200 litre drums of chain oil when the oil prices started going up. Although I like the sound of the rapeseed oil and think ill give it a try.
  24. No I dont think it will fit any of those saws. The thread is a different pitch and size IIRC. Will find out tomorrow when Im back in the shop.
  25. The cap is only available in the large size so it will fit quite a lot of other models that I haven't listed on the web site. Husqvarna only specify those that I have listed. So it will fit the 576, 395, 3120, 357 262 etc etc but not the 346 or 550. It should fit the fuel tank of the 346 but not the oil tank and it looks like it wont fit either tank of the 550. Im not going to be held to this but as a general rule 50cc and below not much chance over 50cc probably will fit. Hopefully thats vague enough for me not to be sued if someone leaks oil on their boots. As for the which is better husky V stihl cap, well that could be a whole new line of threads! It isnt a quick release like the Stihl but then again you will know 100% if its in properly or not. Seems strong enough but only time will tell. The husky one is quite a bit more expensive. They are quite well designed though, you can push the dimply grippy bit which will pop the flip bit out so if slippy/oily or wearing gloves etc there wont be any messing about trying to get your finger under the flip bit. There is also a slot under the flip part so if it has been overtightened or done the magical thing of tightening itself for no reason, which I have a theory on but need to check it out:laugh1: you can get a combi spanner in there for an extra bit of purchase. Spring that keeps the flip bit down seems strong enough too. Hopefully they will release one for the 550XP and T540XP soon which should cover more or less everything else.
