I am always surprised how well ash holds up in the round. Beech and birch will be long gone before the ash is on the turn. Morris travellers used ash for all the coachwork and they didn't rot out in 5 mins. Sure its classed as non durable though

Dry ash should burn very well. Kiln dried is no guarantee of quality dry wood it's just a means of lowering moisture content in wood. Did they specify a moisture content it was dried to? Not familiar with a scanning moisture meter as I have only used the pin type but on the whole pin type are relatively accurate from reports on here. Cant say I am sweating over this. Never had a single fuel problem with 5% so doubt 10% will make much difference.

14" as it came. Seems about right. Probably wont often cut to its limits but the reach of the longer bar is handy

Sold along with MS 181 Nothing wrong with the Makita and it's great value but not enough oomf or staying power for the jobs I do. It made me see how far battery saws had come so took the leap to a top of line one. Also the MSA 220 made the 181 redundant.

What is a Catalyst in this context? The Burley stoves have a mesh above the flames which are supposed catch soot and burn in it off

Just bought an MSA 220 a week ago and it's simply brilliant! Been hedge laying and got fed up with the on off nature of the work and a sore shoulder to boot. It's perfect for the hedge laying and snedding up the brash.

Pretty sure we have some extra restrictions for something or other. The better half deals with all that but think we looked into it before and it was a month earlier than most. Could be because we are in a Nation Park?

Thanks. It's tied to some grant which stipulates we have to stop by the 1st March. Saps rising and birds are looking to nest so another month would be pushing it here anyway

Bit of a rush job to get a couple of sections of our farm hedge layed before the 1st of March. Nice to have some sunshine today to make job easier and leaves us with some nice wood for charcoal making. I am no pro when comes to hedge laying but it usually grows and keeps the sheep in and out.

I would hang on for good SH WP36. Good chance one will come up in the spring when log season is over. A friend had a cheap Chinese one like the Dominator and promptly sold it as it was awful to use. Think he has now gone for a top end stand alone splitter instead.

Think there are European tonnes and Chinese tonnes 😆 My little Farmi processor is only rated for 7 tonnes but it gets through most things.

Amazingly suicide rates internationally didn't rise last year. Maybe those who are depressed dont feel as isolated as they might do as they know so many are in the same boat.

If you have an auto spout you dont see the fuel when filling up and rely on the fuel in the can being mixed right. Easy when you are one man band though

Thanks Paul. I have spoken with Woodsure and even though we are pretty clear on whats to be expected this was the reply I got "We are hoping for some guidance to come out from DEFRA so may be worth waiting till then" -

Bare in mind that parts of the UK get 4x the amount of rain presuming this is right for Ontario"The annual rainfall is 424 mm" Our logs would rot in no time if stored outside and uncovered . We have had 400mm since Christmas -

Only one that I know of. They cook and do the hot water off wood as well. Plenty mix their heating ie running the central heating low and using wood to make things cosy when home.
