Had a great day with Geoff and Robin of Exeter Charcoal today for the first test run of the new version of the retort. It's now far more solid and airtight than my prototype and did its first burn without a hitch. Its all looking good for production to start soon and expect to be out with it at some shows next year 😀

I have only run ours on a tractor a couple of times but couldn't really notice much difference. Where do find the improvement ie splitting, cutting or both? I had thought of trying to convert a diesel engine to run it to save money over the petrol but never got around to it. Our tractor is too handy to be tied up with the processor full time

No not likely with dry boards. Think the staining is caused by the iron reacting with the tannins in oak when moist.

Its 20mm thick and planned both sides. It was kiln dried wood so little shrinkage after laying but noticeably larger gaps near the Aga but pretty good joints away from it for a rustic floor. Laid it 20 plus years ago and people still comment on how nice it looks. Seems to remember pre drilling the holes for the cut nails as they tended to split the wood without but they dont half hold well. Had a water leak a few years back and it was hell trying to lift them.

I laid some random width oak floor boards in my parents place. Boards were up to 12" wide. Just nailed down with cut nails. It is an old farmhouse so slightly rustic is fine but to be honest it looked pretty tidy and no movement at the edges that the T&G would put in for. Can get pictures if it would help. Think they were just 1" boards but can check

Yes I do it working on our Devon banks all the time. As said you get a bigger hinge and change the balance to aid it going the way you want. Only down side I have found is if its not very big there is not a lot of room for wedges but I am usually doing the bigger gob to avoid needing wedges in the first place. Also this is mainly on small trees

I picked up one and it is a great bit of kit. Got the biggest batteries for my saw and they are way more power than you need for the trimmer. In the ideal world would buy a smaller battery to keep the weight down.

Agreed and there were probably plenty of accidents along the way for some. I was fortunate enough to grow up on a farm so got plenty of practice around the fields from a very young age. Still had a few unwelcome surprises which I might well have avoided with training. I get we dont like paying for training and many may well know 95% of the important stuff but legislation has to cover the lowest denominator and that standard can be pretty low! -

Its education in something we are not borne knowing. Bashing around on the roads with up to 3500kg on the back while doing 60mph is not something we should be able go out and do straight after passing your driving test IMO -

Amazed the van could even pull that Trailer and van found four tonnes overweight on M1 WWW.BBC.CO.UK The vehicle had scaffolding planks on the roof, while the trailer had planks seven layers deep.

Do you have any extractor fans in the room? You might be creating negative presure so it draws air in down the flue sucking in smoke from her chimney exit -
How do people record Firewood orders and schedule deliveries ?

Not sure if this might work but I have just started doing invoices on Google Sheets which is stored in the cloud I guess. Put the times on the invoice and then your driver can access it through Google Sheets out on the road. -
Dont know if we should pleased or not. Having a massive oil and gas company seeing its future in the UK says something about how green they think our nation is. Pleased about the jobs worried about its implications on policy

That is very high. With bills like that you sure your tenant isn't Bitcoin mining? A heat pump in a well insulated building as you describe shouldn't be costing a fortune and lighting is not usually a heavy user unless you still have halogens.
