  1. I wont be. I am not too bother but I know others on here feel very strongly about Chinese kit so thought I would share. There seems to be a perception these are Italian grinders when they are not
  2. I have decided to upgrade my cheapo chainsaw grinder in the hope I can convert it to sharpen bandsaw blades. Read lots of threads on here and lots of folk rate the 'Italian made Tecomec' as they apparently make the Oregon grinders. Well my new grinder arrived yesterday and they do indeed seem nicely made but was surprised to see this on the plate!
  3. Thats quite a gust!

  5. Get those saws sharpened!
  6. Wind steadily picking up. Just had a gust of 50 MPH. Dogs got buffeted about on their morning walk but they still love it
  7. Thanks Andy. I do have a branch logger but when I put some of the scabs through it they didn't separate completely. Not had a problem with our hedgerow brash but yours has clearly cut right through so looks like I need to adjust the blades on it to make them closer. I do firewood and can get rid of waste but just hoping to sell some of it above firewood price.
  8. Sounds like a good idea. What size are hedging stakes?
  9. I have just got my first bandsaw mill up and running. Cutting 6"x6" post today. First you get the scabs and these are clearly scrap but next 1" cut you end up with narrow waney edge boards with some good wood in them especially from the thicker end. How can these put to use or marketed? Thanks
  10. It's a stitch up. Come up with some stats that say we have a major problem so let's have lots of legislation to deal with the problem. Bring in the legislation and then admit the stats that were founded on false info. Bet the legislation and this bureaucracy wont disappear.
  11. These are about the warmest I have used in the wet. They do get wet through over time but seem to work like a wetsuit and still keep you warm. I use them when on the processor in the pissing rain also OK with the saw once you get used to something so thick. 12. We have the real thing just not that brand. Yes, we dip posts and have barrel half full and lower large posts in with the loader and leave for few days. I would have had to buy new parts for our knapsack sprayer and doubt they would have been cheap. Looks like roller is the safest bet. Thanks all
  13. One of the problems from what I have seen is not the spec for the insulation so much as the quality of construction. I worked on a new extension putting in some oak A frames but helped with the rafters. I had to pop back and the builder was fitting Celotex in between the rafters. There were large gaps at the sides and I just asked if they were going to foam them up. Builder says with the blessing of the customer who was there that it would all be covered before BCs next visit! Same job went to fit some tricky skirting boards. There was a howling draught coming up from under the floor so lord knows what had gone on under the floor. I converted our barn and did all the insulation myself. It was above the spec of the time but below new regs. Still able to heat the whole place with one 7kWh wood-burner thats at tick-over. Air tightness and continuity of insulation makes a big difference IME
  14. The mill is just up and running. First project is to build a cover for it which is what I am looking to treat with Creosote. The mill itself is OK but quality control is not the best as you might expect from a relatively cheap mill from China. Had a problem but with a slight mod is now all sorted. Could of kicked off and waited months for a new fairly major part for the mill but it now works perfectly with far less hassle than changing bits. The quality of cut is fantastic, the engine runs sweet and the head seems very stable. Rise and fall is slightly stiff at present but I think will ease with use. Rather that than have it slopping about on the guides. The bed is heavy but its surprising the load a big log put son things. It comes with loads of legs and I have set it on some RSJs so its now very well supported
  15. We have got an old one that might be persuaded to work again but may try the roller option. There will be lots of timbers the same section so setting them out beside each other and going over with a roller shouldn't be tricky.
  16. About to build a shed out of home milled douglas fir. I dont want rot or woodworm and wonderd if Creostote can be sprayed on to save time over painting. Happy to wear some good PPE for the job if it can be done quickly. Thanks
  17. Not read the article but the idea that I heard floated was you will agree to have X amount of power used. Say you have Renault Zoe with a 52 kWh battery which would give in excess of 200 miles range but you know tomorrow you are only going to be a 20 miles round trip to work. To play it safe you might agree to have the grid use 30 kWh of power in your battery still leaving you with 80 miles range. You wont be doing this for nothing and will undoubtedly be paid above normal rates for the power you return to the grid. Then you will recharge another time when there is less demand and at a lower rate than you get paid. You make a few quid on the side and grid can have spikes in demand smoothed without the need to have excess power station operable.
  18. About time It's been proposed for a long time the EVs could be used for helping the grid out at peak times.
  19. Having an almost identical problem with Farmi processor. The oil on mine does go into the groove on the bar but most drips out the back of the bar and doesn't seem to get carried around on the chain

  23. For us its because we live on Dartmoor 😆 1890mm of rain last year! We use a dehumidifier at the wettest times which I suspect is more efficient than a tumble drier
  24. Just been up to see Robin and Geoff who spent the day fitting out the first batch of Dartmoor Dragon retorts out with insulation. They have given me their first prototype so I can give demos and make more charcoal if need be For those interested best to contact them for pricing but I am happy to chat about all the other aspects 🙂 The Exeter Retort - The cleaner and more efficient method of producing biochar and barbeque charcoal.
