  1. It is how long is a piece of string question but I have some crates of ash here that were cut just 3 months ago and are nearing 20%. Sure it been wet but its also been windy and that makes a big difference IME. The ash lengths had sat about for around 4 months before being cut but didn't check the moisture when freshly cut and split.
  2. No question that woodburners are more efficient. Some years ago a saw a study from some listed houses in Scotland on the efficiency of an open fires. Cant remember all the detail but in some of the homes that had central heating as well the open fire had a negative effect on the overall temp of the building. The draw of the open fire literally sucked the heat out of the rest of the building and pushed it out up the chimney.
  3. Came across this and thought it might be an interesting discussion
  4. Not sure there is such a thing as free energy in this system of yours. Using the Aga to dry your logs is going to have cost
  5. I thought Boris was unelectable so dont expect any sense these days. Rather agree that somehow BJ will hang on much to the detriment of our country. I mean he has been shown to be lier from the off and its not stopped him yet so why now? God I hope I am wrong though as none of them could be as bad as this shit-show
  6. Deleted as not funny
  7. Fair comment but in recent years the power supply has been very reliable out here. Used to be shocker but the problem section got sorted. I will mention that to him though
  8. Its an old place with no wall insulation so a heap pump would probably not be a good option for them
  9. A neighbour was quizzing me about fitting fitting a biomass boiler and thermal store. He cant be doing with the excessive costs of instal from using approved suppliers and has plenty of trees to keep him going. He has no central heating at present and runs three wood-burning stoves. His hope is easier to manage log sizes due them being larger and more convenient fire loading times due to the thermal store. Thought on the matter?
  10. As said it looks nice and airy which is key. To speed up drying further stack them so air can reach side of the rows as wood loses moisture fastest through the end grain
  11. I have been doing a bit of hedge laying on the farm. Cutting out brush and processing the best for our charcoal 2 batteries on the MSA220 last me half a day. In reality they last a bit longer as I do some dragging and laying as I go along.
  12. It's a good test. Keep us updated Dont worry about Stubby. He is a good sort really
  13. Saw this one from Rory Bremner If there was a piss-up at No 10 last Christmas it’s very unlikely Boris organised it. Because, well, you know.
  14. Wouldn't be without my MSA220. Its my go too saw if I can get away with it
  15. It's rough out there this morning. Even the dogs were hesitant about going for the morning walk. I say walk it was more of a paddle in the torrential rain. Workshop day
  16. This Rivian? The presenter is a bit OTT so be warned . Clearly a different end of the spectrum to the Spartan
  17. This is painfully familiar and not just for flasks 😂
  18. "best all round saw" that would have to be a circular saw If nothing to big to cut a 550XP
  19. Dodgy photoshop on that cover picture. Look at the log patterns repeating
  20. Decorations up in November 😬 Clearly not everything is better in Sweden
  21. Problem with any bricks is they wont fit neatly so wont conduct the heat away from the water tank so maybe a risk of the tank burning out? Sand clearly would make good contact with the tank. If you do use bricks the night storage ones would make a great thermal store
  22. We have a price. They will be £3900 for the basic version as above. We are working on some barrel handling accessories which should be available in due course
  23. I run a different processor but my bar problems either stem from the oiler not working properly or worn drive sprocket. If the bar was being pinched would have thought the groove would quickly wear to be free again. If the drive sprocket is worn and the chain runs a bit slack I do get some wear as the chain comes onto the bar similar to the picture but without the heat we see here
  24. First off thanks Billhook for a bit of fun 👍 I will show my workings 😆 14' is 168" so 168"x4"x42"=28224 cubic inches. There are 1728 cubic inches in a cubic foot so 28224/1728 =16.3 cubic feet. There are 35.31 cubic feet in a cubic meter so 16.3/35.31=0.46 cubic meters I looked up the weight of English elm and the first link came up with 600kg a cubic meter. I worked on it being pretty dry as standing dead and upped that to 650kg a cubic meter. 0.46x650 = 299 which was my guess.
  25. I do as if you dont change down a size you take quite a bit of meat out of the tie strap or have to reduce your hook angle.
