That's how I was brought up . Tinkering with Dad . Basic stuff like oil change and filter , mending a fuse , puncture on the push bike , all normal stuff back then . Not so today .

I only saw the prototype braided wire version . If you remember I tried a version with a cable tie that I made myself !

Hi Andrew . Did they actually fit the limiting wire in the end . I still have the parts ( fitted ) that you so generously sent me ( way back when ) comprising of the strengthened " grey belly plate " ( av mount ) and the barrel shaped AV spring . These seem to solve the problem .

Back in the day my mate ( now dead ) said he was " on the lump " in the building trade . I believe this is an un proved fallacy . He was getting £30 a day when I was getting £30 a week .

All of what you have said is probably true and also very sad . Many years ago I worked in a toolroom ( time served toolmaker and dev engineer ) . There were top notch tool making outfits all around the south . There came a time when the grownups decided it would be cheaper to get the tools made abroad . It was but when they came back we were Kept in work putting them right . Just seemed a waste of time and money to me then .
