  1. Hilux are a great vehicle but do you need it road worthy? you can get a bottom end one for £1500-£2000 mk2/3. which is prob the most durable model. even better get a horse! ms181 good and study but needs to be razor sharp. i would get a 211 or more if your set on stihls. personally i would use with 12'' bar as this means more power and you can still cut just under 2ft diameter with this. as above with coppice advice. i prefer to move timber in as larger pieces as i can easily move until it is v close to where it will be seasoned as this reduces handling i.e.loading and unloading a pickup of logs takes longer than doing the same with 7ft x 8'' poles. have fun
  2. he must have been putting a good bit in to colour a tank of diesel? how much you recon should be used?
  3. i think 500 is cheap! though it depends on who he wants to buy them....i sometimes try and do things cheap for some folk, as i want them to end up with something i've made and i like that they have asked me. but i can't do that everyday. i think if you compare to alot of hand made furniture makers you wouldn't get much for 500.
  4. yes i would definately consider a makita or a dolmar! if i had to buy a 50cc saw. from using a couple of dolmars they seem to punch well above their 50cc weight and seem v robust. and you can get em for about 400ish inc vat.
  5. i reckon it totally depends how many time syou've wished you had 4x4 tipper whilst driving your transit? for me i long for the day that my hilux can tip, or even have drop sides! so i would keep ot if i had it! i suppose the other thing is do you totally trust it to do the job when you need it to? i am a fan of older simpler 4x4's so i would keep it.
  6. did you make that ally tub then? or where'd you get it?
  7. a mate of mine kept siezing bars. he reckoned it was because he was keeping his saws in a a boiler room and the bearings weren't loving it. i guess just another varient to consider!
  8. i'd like to see the next photo in the series
  9. is there anything tedious in insurance docs about refreshing?
  10. whats the payload on a transit tipper? i thought (and am probably wrong) that nealry everything in the 3.5t catagory its payload is about 1t with the main difference being tow capacity. the bed on my pickup is 7.5x4.5 ft which space wise is easy to get 1 t of logs/chips in. downrating vehicles as mentioned usually means the empty vehicle weighs 3.5 t before you load it! i have thought about it many ways and there doesn't seem to be a really good allround solution!
  11. just a quick thanks to say got the gloves! dead generous of you. much appreciated, thanks again, bill
  12. just why? why would you do that? other than to be funny?
  13. I got a brick in the middle of a 30'' sycamore a while back. thats was pretty good.
  14. yeah don't mind the idea just amazed someone actually thought it would be a good idea, and a time saver, then made it? imagine zip tieing your throtle on your chainsaw then dangling it down below you a rope to try cutting a limb? cool but def mental
  15. i do apologise, meant to post this link
  16. when you realise you hate alaskan mills, give us a shout! have a sweet time with it!
  17. did anyone see this austrailian invention afterwards? https://www.youtube.com/embed/T5WO9nulOXc also pretty mental
  18. Colin White tree surgery nr hexham have a mewp that'll do that and they do it manned for less than 550 i would have thought worth asking anyway. i've worked with them and we nailed a similar dead tree on a huge bank by a road in less than a day. thats manned with a tree surgeon too so they would def know what they are doing.
  19. if you don't want it pass us the fellas number eh? sounds like a bargain but worth checkin the saw over anyway....i usually whip the exhaust off any saw i might buy if used and have a look at the piston to check for any scoring. a friend of mine is selling a 3120 with maybe 60 hrs work, 50'' bar and 30'' bar and alaskan mill etc. he's trying for £1400 and reckons it cost him £1800/1900 quid new. i have never used a 3120 mind you, so can;t offer any advice there.
  20. did you def put the primer gaskets/diaphrams back on the right way/ or even back on? sorry to ask!
  21. power wise with a sharp chain you'll just about be alright unless your logging. i got a ms170 which is about the equivelent and it has saved the day when other saws have been down. secret is stinging sharp, tiny bar. however i got it second hand for £30. not quiet sure i would have paid £120 (with vat.) for it......personally i think i'd get a half decent used saw for £100-150 quid. let me know how it goes if you do get it!
  22. never tried it on my horse but skin so soft def works good for midges on people. that receipe with the coke bottle and tea sounds good. i'd like to give that a go.....
  23. my idiot mind read that as free wood stove. bit far away but a generous offer!
  24. could be fine ~WRC is pretty stable i reckon. maybes don't leave it in direct sunlight or put it in a hot house or something. looks good mate. howd you fox the legs on?
