  1. you changing the whole thing or just doing a carb kit? either is pretty hard with only a hammer, but i would say pretty easy with some tools. carb kit is a little bit fiddlier and you need to remember where all gaskets go etc but def pretty do-able. you may well not have to replace the whole carb as this is v expensive and a carb kit will be maybe £12. i wouldn't bother with hong kong knock offs, the one i bought for my ms170 isn't great.
  2. dolkita 9000!

don't know if this will work here is some pics of the dreamy little 3410 with 14'' bar. 4.6kg with fuel and bar. i would seriously reccomend getting a pro carving saw if you possibly can (don't know if ps32 is? but suspect its home user.) lighter, 35cc, potentially more durable and not much more cost.

i got me a dolly ps 3410 which is like a backhandle ms200 essentially. light at 3.5kg, pricey 1/4 sprockets (think it was £30-40) but great. i dropped it out the back of my truck the other day and it didn't break which is always nice. have only used it for maybe 2 weeks solid carving so can't give a really honest review yet, but seems to be going very well. running a cannon 14'' which i already had, this was on a ms170 or 010 before and fitted it fine. suspect you'd get a sugi for it no bother.

chainsaw mill or big static one? Rob D got some good info on alaskans, double ended chainsaw mills etc.
  7. if you search for " husqvarna 550" (you'll prob need to put it in quotes to be more specific) you'll find ALOT written about 'em! personally not had alot to do with them, but they are light and pokey
  8. oh also, also, spoke to gustarts about it and they said to def not go bigger than a 170 it term of power and chain speed on such a light bar/chain.....
  9. oh also noted the nose spreading a bit too- brayed it back together we'll see how we get on.
  10. i think it blued the nose probably as i was using it a bit like a carving bar, which its simply too lightly built for, i.e to much heat in nose, it also burred up pretty quick - then the chain broke - all of which lead to me to believe i was asking too much of s £30 bar! i.e its not a tough bar. but the narrow kerf is excellent and a joy to use. i have now put it with a new chain on an old stihl 010av which has more power but much less rpm ( 39cc, 9500rpm), so i'll let you know how i get on and i'm being aware to try and be gentler with it. can you get carving bars with 1.1mm yet?
  11. i have stuck a 12'' 1/4 picco on an ms170 with a rollomatic e mini bar on. cuts class, lots easier etc. pretty quickly got blueing on nose end and broke chain after a ma of 3 sharpens. might have been bad luck but felt that the 1/4 P chain really is for tiny saws i.e smaller than 170. saying that i might have been unlucky and it was great while it lasted
  12. right then here is an interesting one. got a another coil from a spares repair dcs5000. it arrived, i check spark in machine, good strong spark, fit to dcs5000 with faulty coil and great it works good spark in saw that wasn't sparking, its late at night so i fire it up but don't really razz it, thought that'll wait until the morning. in morning no spark, wierd? take starter coil off and check distances, about a busniness card from fly wheel. more fiddling and weak spark, little fire on full choke, then back to no spark. fit coil back to spares repair saw where it worked when i first tested coil, no spark, then a little one then nothing. am i missing something? i have obviously checked the kill switch wire and ht wire for wear etc. should i never try and fix a saw again as i seem doomed to perpetually waste money? has the flywheel somehow broken the 2nd coil? WTF!
  13. had a chat with the fella at local husky dealer yesterday (david dixons) who'd just been to meet husky people and was told that they are no longer aloud to blame siezures/problems on not using the posh husky 2 stoke oil as other brands of oil (stihl, oregon etc) are as good - more to do with whether its a semi sythetic etc.
  14. saw that for sale back in the summer, why would they copy a 070 not a more modern saw though? is it a fake?
  15. i don't trust the one on the makta 230t either so i just pop the strap round the handle. works fine!
  16. i've got a makita dcs 4201 and it rocks! light enough and plenty grunt for 42cc!
  17. think its a XA20 (2000–2005)but not sure. its a 5 dr. internet says in mixed driving it'll do 40mpg?
  18. any other makes make something like a back handle ms150. i got the makita 230t which i love but can;t get back handle. its for carving. echo do anything in the pro range similar? or any others? i want it to be pro spec i think as i know it'll last better. thanks
  19. i'm sure those stats are right and i'm sorry to hear your 15k down:thumbdown: i'm saying anything bad about the police either but if i had to stereotype they not too keen on "travellers" so it doesn;t surprise me that they are able to find stuff on sites or travelllers motors as i expect they spend more time searching these places. i went on a camping holiday with my family a few summers back, with the horse, we had visits from the coppers every night, often waking us up and getting our names and addresses (once at 1am!). i was pretty shocked!
  20. like 034's you mean? yep anything with stihl on sells. check ebay and gumtree, you wont' get stihl for under £100 whatever condition
  21. my kids slam it all the time, not smashed anything yet. i figured if i am making it from one bit of wood, it'll need to be good and chunky
  22. if you have time, stick a slab or two in your bathroom for 3 months or so first
  23. i'd go 15 all day with a saw that size, far handier
  24. one piece of oak for seat then the bit the hinge fits to at the back has the grain running the other way i.e seat grain runs front to back, bit at back left to right as you look at it. was a piece of oak been cut for a couple years but knocking around yard in rain, so i'd guess 25% if your going for 1 piece of wood keep it good and chunky i would say!
  25. made this from oak. bit too green so split a bit but works fine. 2'', thick, carving chainsaw, sander, 180 grit finish, tung oil x8 coats. the hinges are annoying but prob ok if your good at hinges.
