  1. Fag and a coffee does me most mornings. I used to take tins of mackerel to work but got death threats from the lads.
  2. Does a bacon and egg sandwich count for lunch?
  3. McDonald's breakfast wrap at the moment. It'll probably be dominos later though.
  4. 28" waist here, chubs
  5. You've not pissed me off mate. I just reckon our industries are different. I reckon a climber who charged travel time as a standard would have a lot of blank diary pages! That's not to say that I'm against the idea. Reckon all the business owners here would be mind.
  6. Sure Mark, I get that. Standard day rate within a certain mile radius, anything above that is charged on top. I reckon most employers would use someone more local (cheaper) though, unless you're outstanding compared to the local competition. That's not what Eggs is saying though. I'd hazard a guess that his field is more specialised, with fewer decent operators, and jobs being further and wider. If so it makes sense, but for a subbie climber who rarely goes more than 40mins from home I can't see charging for that time being viable.
  7. And where did I say that it would? How many SE climbers (or groundies) on here charge from when they get in their motor? Obviously running your own jobs is different. Travel is factored into the quote. I think your industry must be less saturated with competent operators than mine.
  8. Kind of. More of an arse man really
  9. Dunno, got a pic?
  10. Your husband sounds like a great guy
  11. If it's physically draining it's worth it.
  12. Not sure what you don't get Eggs, Ideally a subby would love to be paid from the moment they get off their drive. It's a competitive market though, so you either have to be outstandingly better than any competition, or live somewhere where you have no competition. Most folk will figure out a distance they're willing to travel for their day rate. Anything more could be done at an extra rate, but most employers will chose someone more local thus cheaper. But like taking a PAYE job 2 hours away, then expecting more on top for your travel time.
  13. Actually in that regard we're well supplied across the board.
  14. I'm the opposite end of the spectrum I reckon. Drop me a pm (or a beer at the APF) if you want to compare pro's and cons!
  15. Ahaha very good. You picked something up!
  16. 44, you're buggered then! I reckon if I worked for a firm where they told me how to do a job safely I'd probably walk. Mind you I did consider the council for a while as a cosy kind of life. No offence meant.
  17. How old and how many fags a day?
  18. Getting into bed after 12 beers? That might be my bedmate kicking me actually. Funnily enough I went deep sea fishing a few years ago. I caught a few Guernard (sp?) while being extremely smug about everyone else bagging up over the side. Soon as I hit terra firma I went white as a sheet and barely managed to stagger back to my apartment!
  19. That's the expense of the weight saving... I should bloody hope so for the price. By the time it's adjusted properly I've only got 2 years left! Your apologies are much appreciated ☺️
  20. And IME there's always more risk of damage (operator or property) whilst using a mewp. Might be down to my experience of each though.
  21. Sod that mate. Get a real job. Not being funny but if climbings what you're into, a domestic firm will teach you a skill set you won't get working for the LA.
  22. Teufelberger say 5.
  23. Not at all mate. Interesting that you got that from what I said though. I know a couple of ex council lads. Good guys too, and when I hear of the nice pruning jobs that the LA chose to use a MEWP on, it bewilders me. As a climber, the bigger jobs are what we live for. To use a MEWP for what could be a great climb is beyond me. In the domestic market it rarely flies. It's rarely much quicker than a decent climber, access is often an issue, and the added expense is often a deal breaker. I've used a little nifty for some re pollards, to good effect, but the only times I've used a MEWP on a buggered tree where it was insisted, I've found it slower and much more risky. The last time I climbed out of the bucked and got into the tree out of sheer frustration.
  24. Ah, that makes sense. Cost is not a problem in a taxpayer subsidised company. I hate them. Scares the hell outta me.
  25. What? Poof.
