Interesting thread I have never had an issue with my later trailers, I have on occasion used the trailer handbrake to help stop the trailer pulling the truck backwards on drives. If I pull it up as it starts rolling backwards it pulls on harder and the handle comes up to nearly vertical, to the point where it takes one heck of a lot of effort and force to take the handbrake off. Just copied this off a Knott braking pdf If the trailer is rolling rearwards as the handbrake is applied, or if it is pushed backwards with the handbrake on, the autoreverse mechanism will be brought into action. To overcome this, a greater actuating movement is introduced from the spring energy store, expanding the brake shoes further so that full brake effectiveness is maintained.

1500kg max 7'.6" body length, I can make a frame to rest bucket over roof if necessary, but would rather not.

Crane with chassis frame work and engine come in at about 600kg, that is with extra services, there is a thread if you look through my old posts about nose weight and it is legal, I tested it to check, but the crane has to be un folded over the bed when empty. Truck and marine cranes used to be ACB hydraulics, I have had dealings with ACB fitting a crane to a lorry, and the workmanship wasn't that great, I bought my ifor second hand but I was going to have a new one from them only because they have experience of fitting them to ifors, it just worked out that mine came up at the right time. The quality of Bonfig cranes is not great at all, mine isn't 3 years old and needs repainting already, there is also a question of how accurate it's first weight/stability test done by ACB was. If it was me I would seriously look elsewhere, for both different make cranes and not having it fitted by Truck and marine, even if it was going to cost a little bit more. Its a bit of a trade off between crane quality and crane weight unfortunately, £7k is a fair bit dearer than a Bonfig, but a lot cheaper than a Fassi or Palfinger, I have issues with the slew torque not being enough in certain situations with the 3500L. One thing to bear in mind is this type of crane is very slow, a rotator and grab is a pain unless you are lifting big butts imo.

Bonfiglioli 3500l fitted on mine, they have the best lift/weight ratio out there, but not the best build quality, when we build a new one we will probably got with a Pesci. I assume you want a knuckleboom crane ? From memory unless it's changed Hiab's were too wide and heavy. One thing to consider is stabiliser leg length and folded width, you may end up forking out more to shorten the legs. I can't find the spec sheet for the 38.1 tbh I didn't think it was made anymore.

I have been looking at these again. I may be looking for something we can cram on the land rover and then tow the machine it has to load up behind me. One of the things concerning me is their stability with a bucket full at high lift, as it needs to load a machine 8 feet high. I can't really think of many other machine to do what I want.

I stand to be corrected but the trailer cover is only with tractor insurance. The reason my trailers are listed separately with the NFU is that I was told trailers are not covered at all on a commercial vehicle policy.

It all stacks up whilst you have good tenants and interest rates are where they are now. You WILL have bad tenants at some point and are you factoring in the fact that you will need to replace kitchens, bathrooms and boilers at some point, they do wear out to a point of not viable to repair, and some of the new style tenants tend to not care too much about your property. I have several customers with pretty substantial portfolios of rental property and industrial units, one with nearly 100 properties now has one of the staff spending most of their week sorting court cases for eviction and damage not sufficiently covered by deposit, and chasing tenants, another has just decided to sell everything except one block of flats. If I was ballsy enough I would do the stock market, as I have said in an earlier post, the only long term value in renting over other forms of investing imo is the capital gain of the property and nothing else, but even that can sometimes seem like not worth it if you get a really bad tenant, some know just how to play the system. But if it works for you I am pleased for you

No they are not. It was an optional extra on hicaps, I believe both versions had the Salisbury axle though.

I am guilty of that, that's why I have the book keeper, I don't mind working but I hate the paperwork involved, she is worth every penny to keep everything in order.

I know it would be hard to do on a 110 because of it being shorter but I have noticed that putting the tow bar straight on the cross member with no overhang has made it a really nice stable tow motor.

Not sure that's the general thing, I know what next years accountancy bill is going to be but my accountants have no idea what my turnover will be. Every accountant I have used has charged roughly by the amount of time it takes. When I started using a book keeper my turnover never went down but my accountants bill did.

One of the things that makes Ifors attractive is the resale value, the most I have ever lost on one of the tippers is £500 and I owned that particular one 5 years.

I would spend the bulk on wild women and booze, the rest I would just waste.
