  1. cos not being an 8-5 type of person means I start when I want, and finish when I want, doing what I want, when I want, if I want, so I cant blame anybody else about the job, and realised a long time ago that lifes not dictated by a clock. now when somebody asks me the time, it's either light-o-clock or dark-o-clock, and lunch times when my belly rumbles for food.........life is sweet
  2. chipped, dried and sold for smoking meats, imparts a delicious tang to the meat
  3. theres about 20 different types of tufnol, called brands, depends on the use what the makeup is was very popular as an insulator before plastics became so abundant, also as wear strips, spacers and bearing bits, largly been replaced now, but still pops up in some strange places, be carefull of the dusts as some of the glues and resins are formaldahyde based, google whale brand or swan brand tufnoll, but theres many more
  4. the one in 10 downing street
  5. why 65mm thick?, have you got a purpose in mind
  6. nothing on a mog is beyond the scope of a good mechanic, and contrary to belief the main dealer isnt always the most expensive
  7. somebodys getting a bollocking for not cleaning the gutters out...lol
  8. answer to you test question, ..... tell it to take its jacket off, and remind it that its a no smoking area
  9. the only time I've been asked for one, I asked if they wanted the job done or not, they called me, not the other way round, was ready to walk away before the site boss said I didnt require it, just get the job done, tend to get pissed off with all there stupid nanny state rules these days
  10. not road legal above speeds of 20mph, trailers must have brakes on all wheels if over 750kg otherwise classed as agricultural with speed restriction
  11. how old is the bat report, and have you had a ground survey for contamination done, then you can start thinking about your options, bats are easy to deal with and will live quite happily in harmony with humans
  12. I find a 55gn 223 from about 150yds usually gets the cat out the tree, yes I'm not a cat person, hate the things
  13. halfords professional range are excellnt quality tools, plus a lifetime warranty, and a bonus...get yourself a halfords trade card and get a big discount on them, plus very good prices on consumables for your plant and vehicles( dont tell everybody about this...lol..)
  14. and when was the last time any of you had the calibration checked on them ?
  15. I believe that once again theyve covered there ars* "you must assess the effect of the site and the weather as well as following this guidance." the word is guidance, not compulsion. And as long as you can buy top handled saws on the open market without any form of licence or restriction, you'll never stop them being used on the ground
  16. the sooner you mill it , the easier it cuts, the quicker it starts drying and seasoning
  17. cordwood = dumb americanism, correct and sensible description is roundwood, to much use of dumbed down american terms in this industry
  18. as a non professional timber fairy, you dont need to wear any ppe, or take any H&S precautions, you know the rubbish doesnt apply to them
  19. there are a lot of plantations here in the SW of scotland that the good old mechanical harvester cant operate in, too steep, too swampy, too rough, there will always be jobs for fellers, well untill they invent a hovercraft harvesteror something...lol
  20. agree with J, thats heavily flamed, maybe a little bit of spalting on the outer edges, but stunning nevertheless, that would make some beautifull tables
  21. you tried breaking that banding tape recently, some of its stronger than blo**y steel...lol
  22. this old "yes it is, no it isnt saga", H&S recognise any training carried out by a competent instructor, and recorded as such, another mob jumping on the "lets make money out the suckers" brigade
  23. I've 3 small axes/hatchets that were made for my father by the blacksmith at the "pit" where he worked as a young man, Ire-hafted one with as and the other 2 are done with keruan, in 25 years of using them I've never even managed to knock a splinter of the keruan ones, maybe not the prettiest of tools, but very efficient
  24. another information sheet put into circulation by a dept, not the definitive act or statute... construction and use act trumps any such leaflets, check it if your in any doubt, sect 15 and 16 are quite clear, and are the ONLY legislative information that can be used in a court, not some advisory leaflet
  25. and from my above post, my mog weighs in at 5250kg...4 times this is 21000kg, max gross allowed is 14230kg, so a 14 ton loaded timber trailer is my max (not that I would attempt this), but it would be legal
