  1. snap on is the biggest con going, and thats a fact, whenever a better manufacturer apeared on the market , they either bought them out or tried to tie them up with copyright crap, there is a multitude of better tool manufacturers out there, and a lot cheaper, snap on arent even the no 1 tool supplier in there home country. most of there power and pneumatics are re-branded from the main manufacturers, and there specialist kit is made for them in the same factories as most other suppliers, they trade on there past history, not on what they produce now......the only reason there are so many garage mechanics using them, and MAC, is that they do credit, with weekly payments, and come round the garages weekly to collect, and try and sell yoiu more crap
  2. if your going to chuck a saw with a 5 or 6ft bar on it about , you better think about booking your gym time soon, your going to end up looking like popeye
  3. our local stone mason/ornamental sculpter has a thing similar to this, but his fits in a plant trailer, only goes out to 5m, but will go through a garden gate, he installed our new war memorial with it, and was saying it cost him 85k 3 year ago

    I used to give regularly, but after working in some of the places around the globe, and some of the innoculations they bang into you, they wont take mine, even for research. Must have some good bugs in me then...lol
  5. if your building it yourself, make it both, pivot the mechanism so you have a horizontal for every day use, and avertical for the big akward rings, lots of pics on you tube
  6. the RB44 was in service for some time, most of the "problems" that seem to be talked about are operator errors, brake problems, yes when you leave a vehicle siiting in a yard for 6 months at a time, of course your going to get problems, use it and there fine, pulling/ diving under braking...the vehicle is fitted with leaf springs, brake hard and of course its going to squirm about, its a inherant trait with leaf springs, too many of the grunts that were using them were comming from fwd control landrovers and smaller, and just were not familiar with the diffrent handling of the vehicles, there are 1000's of renault/dodge 50's out there with no problems, vans, tippers, busses, etc, the RB 44 is a good start for an excellent arb vehicle, pto's hydraulics, and linkages are all retrofittable, and there different enough to get you noticed by joe public
  7. the rb44 was never available as a 7.5 tonne, that variant was a dodge 50, the parts arent interchangable as the rear axle is a lot beefier than the rb44, be aware that the front axles were unique to RB, as are the transfer cases, everything else is straight dodge comerciall

  11. at this moment in time vosa seem to have a vendetta against crew cab transit tippers, every time you see a vosa check, theres one or more in it, they seem to know every little snag on them,and 5% not to these nazis, by the book, even if they've got to make it up , you've got to be willing to take it all they way when you get a stroppy ****. any excuse these days as they've got to self finance
  12. doesnt matter what the plate says.....vosa reads what the scales say....3501kg=fine, end off, weight capabilities of transit tippers is pure sh1t, unless you are willing to run bigger vehicles , and the hassles that go with them, tow a trailer, fill it, empty it, then load your chipper on it, go home, or use 2 vehicles
  13. most hardwood and a lot of softwood dust are classed as hazardous substances, wearing a mask, even a cheapy throw-away one is recomended, its not the damage that they do now, its the long term collective impact thats the problem, and remember wood dust is an organic substance, everybodys body reacts differently to it
  14. some excellent machinery on show, the new tracked tigercat looks the biz, just to many folk biased to wheeled machines, some nice stands of timber felled, just hope its not all going to feed the biomass at lockerbie
  15. thin tyres, live axle, and most important, the skill to drive it off road, any muppet can get stuck, even a 4x4, but with a little skill, off road is easy with 2wd, and for the LR everybody keeps shouting for, seem more stuck than any other vehicle, they dont even come with a diff lock as std

What is needed to operate it and get it on the road?? that is an open question, are you going to use it for arb work, or forestry , or agricultural, 2 come with ticks in all the boxes, one is a money pit, if you use it for arb work, no red diesel, no agri machine free road tax, and an "o" licence, plus the hassle of a very expensive hgv, use for forestry, you might have to prove you are actually working in the forestry industry, not just domestic stuff, has several financial benifits, but abuse them at your own risk, VOSA does check sometimes, agricultural, your mog must have at least a rear pto and 3 point linkage to qualify as an agricultural machine, and be registered as such (even though the name means a tractor ?). Next decision what model do you want, short, long, or extra long, what extras, and how much is your budget, there are good 2nd hand mogs , and there are cheap 2nd hand mogs, but unless you are very very lucky !!!, there are no good cheap ones, for your location Alec Price is probably your first port of call, them atkinson Voss, or chance your arm and try the web. the main advice I would give thoughis research, research, and then when you think you've got it sussed, some more research, Ive been involved with mogs for over 30 years now, and they still fling up some weird things, so you are always learning...lol. good luck in your venture, once you use one you'll never go back to a boring tractor
  17. never had any problems getting the stihl chains, I run the setup with 18", 20", 28", and 36" bars depending on what size timber I'm milling, and with top plate angles from 0' to 10' depending on timber type, yes, Ive a lot of chains hanging in the workshop, but when the finish off the chain almost doesnt need a pass through the planer its worth it, some of the last oak I ran just needed sanding to knock off the little bumps here and there
  18. the electric saw runs the same bar as the ms660, happy coincidence, check the part no.s
  19. your bars are usually 3/8" pitch, .050" picco , both stihl and oregon list from 14" to 36" just a good deal more expensive than the logosol branded bars (these were re-branded GB bars)
  20. did you try ruth at logosol, strange that the bars are not available, they run a std pmx chain, so nothing fancy about them

    <p>Stevie, will get back to you soon as i know more myself, waiting on conformation of project from consultant but would be around artic load reqd, what sort and size you going to have available, as I need it to be in around 5-5.5mtr lengths, not the normal 3 mtr stuff, also min 10" dbh to allow for some milling work</p>

  22. might I ask why your looking for a pair of class 3 trousers, normally folk are only looking for this level of protection with BIG saws, or being stuck working on a FC site, I have a pair of class 3 chaps that I purchased in the USA, and I only wear them when I have no choice as there better than a day in a sauna for weight loss....they are heavy...even with braces on them
  23. used to be with the nfu for all my insurances, but for some reason there vehicle and equipment policys stopped being competitive, there property one is still one of the best, especially for anything with outbuildings and valuables not in the main structure, as for payouts, depends on who your local broker is, as it can vary from one to the other, shop around among them, you'll be surprised at the variation on cost for the same cover
  24. acts and statutes are NOT laws, they are, and always will be acts and statutes, there have been no new laws since magna carta, and as long as we have a parlimentary system there wont be, there can only be acts of parliment......and as we have been operating under naval law sinc way way back, its all a crock of sh1t anyway......why do you think the acused stands in the dock?
