as long as you tow it with a quad registered as light agricultural, the weight limit doesnt apply, only a 25mph limit
  2. if you only planked it a month ago, it'll still be green in the centre, doesnt matter how long its been lying, unless the fibres are exposed it wont give up its moisture
  3. get wet, skins waterproof !
  4. there are far to many ambulance chasing law firms in the uk, they look to make money out of anything, trip over a kerb....make a claim, bump into a pole....make a claim, etc, its time a lot of the senile old idiots in charge of the legal system were booted out and these shysters were held accountable, start hiing a few of them personasklly for costs, locking them up for contempt, then maybe we might get back to a system that worked honestly, like it was supossed to, to cover the cost of a non blame accident, because it was an ACCIDENT, these things happen
  5. all your friends at FISA have the fiorestry industry tied up tighter than a bow string, if your not part of the clique, your unenployed, as gnfencer says, I to will be surprised if the FC still excists in its present form, Itll be a private company bleeding public money for a select few clever operators
  6. has anyone heard, or got conformation that PA1 is now reqd for planting commercial coniferous woodland
  7. before the introduction of high speed bands in sawmills, multiple frame saws were quite common, a large quantiy of similar sized timber produced for a fracion of the effort, if you need to batch run a volume of the same size, this would be the way to go, multiple boards for one pass through the saw, and reduction on blade wear(although multiple blades to sharpen, trade off?), and no requirement for a highly skilled sawyer to run it, just someone to keep feeding it stock
  8. isnt there anold regulation somewhere that states a council cant own property, they can only hold it in trust for the people, I know they get round that by forming fraudulant ltd companies and sailing very close to the illegal side of fraud
  9. a U300 for 25k........not even in fantasy land, there are a few second hand U300's knocking about, usually ex utility company ones, you would need to check the specs on any one very carefully, PTO's on mogs run through a seperate gearbox and are not connected to the crank directly, rear runs conventional, front runs reversed and high speed option matches crank rotation, the U300 is the smallest of the fishbowl screen models in carrying capacity, and has been phased out. if your on a 25k budget you would be much better looking at an older square cab model, U1500, if you want a smaller framed model or U1700or U2100 model if you are wanting the larger frame, long wheelbase models, add a 50 to the model no. or if you wsnt longer U 1700 36, or 37, for the 2.6mtr or 3.7 mtr( also aplies to ex utility U2100's etc ), you have the problem with the long wheelbase models as very few of these were produced as agri spec machines due to the complexities of fiting rear linkages, again they are out there, but command higher prices. Good luck finding a mog that suits you, there will be one out there somewhere, just takes time and money to get it.
  10. cold, so cold the politicians have there hands in there own pockets cold......
  11. why does everyone jump on the bio bandwagon as a green alternative, its anything but, uses methanol and sodium hydroxide in its production, 2 more unfreindy chemicals would be hard to find, if you want to go green, use straight waste veg oil, (wvo), well filtered, de watered, and mix up to 50/50 with normal diesel, dont use it in a common rail motor though, any of the older things will run it, unless its got an epic pump, hunt around, you can usually get it for free, and a litle effort, fuel costs drop to around 50p a ltr...legally....you can make and use 2500 ltr a year without paying tax on it
  12. its a pretty straight forward day surgery job, couple of days of twinges and pain, and a lot of stiffness, but you should be up and about within a day, lots of physio and youll be fine, just remember no kneeling down, or direct pressure on your kneecap area for about 3 month at least
  13. stoped getting the licence letters since I returned one telling them I didnt wish to fund the peadophile pension fund, never heard from licensing again
  14. if it isnt the UK, why bother with any ppe, just switch on your common sense, it worked for years before the nanny state took over,
  15. old pitch pine beams.......full of hiden ironwork, and murder to mill, tell him minimun cost 1/2 day dont do hourly rate, and he pays for every band or chain damaged, plus your set up and change time

    Fisa

"Q - I’m an arborist, do I need to undertake a FISA refresher, to work on a FISA member’s site? A - Utility arborist qualifications require a 3 yearly recertification to evidence continued competency, and as they are not harvesting timber, and the majority of the utility work is aerial operations rather than free felling, they fall outside the FISA refresher training requirement. Operators maintaining their utility qualifications / recertification is sufficient evidence of an operators refresher and competence. Therefore they do not require a FISA refresher course to operate on a FISA members site. If a utility qualified operator is employed to “specifically harvest timber” under a harvesting contract and not a utility contract, then attendance of a FISA refresher is required." FISA twisting the rules to justify there existance and stop the companies outside the clique playing........how can a certificate issued by the ONLY autherised body (city and guilds) not be acceptable, they have already been warned about there actions.....total corruption in the forestry industry

    Fisa

welcome to the corrupt world of FISA, and its "jobs for the boys" system and attitude
  18. with the crane on it, you've already compressed the original springs beyond the tapered portion, was it fitted with the double, Ie inner and outer rears, or was it on a single, and did it have the factory lift kit fited. as for the load sensing valve, it is totally adjustable, it can be set up to suit whatever spring/load combination is fitted. are you going to be using it seriously off road, or just "off road", because with a large chip box, a rear anti roll bar would be a good investment, also watch your front- rear weight ratio, or your going to get seasick very quickly, as has been said, an interesting project, but lots more piccies needed
  19. its firewood, burn everything, even the sawdust if you can be bothered clearing it up
  20. the branch logger concept is an eastern european one, google rebak, or search on you tube, there are dozens of refrences to them, even to guys loading wood burning boilers with bags of the stuff, they are a brilliant concept, and are available to do branches up to 150mm this is serious log territory, I made a lot of enquiries about the kit, reasonably cheap in eastern europe, but out of reach here, and most companies wont sell into the UK because of stupid H&S rules regarding there use
  21. and as a post script its only certain parts of vision that go, cos I can still hit a fig 11 at a 1000m on iron sights!
  22. never mind eye test at 65, try nearer 50, and as a driver at 55, I would support this, I thought it was just the lighting was getting bad as small print was getting harder to read, but surprise surprise, a trip to the optician revealed a need for glasses, catches everyone up, and piloting a ton plus weapon on the public roads, testing should be compulsory
  23. children can still be homeschooled in the uk, the quickest answer to the problem is actually very simple. dont book any holidays during school holidays, this would soon force the travell companys to bring there prices down, they work on pre-booking/buying so many thousand places knowing that they have a captive market, could you imagine the panic if these were left on there books, at there expense
  24. that, Ty, puts things into perspective, it can be difficult trying to get laymen to understand the hidden overheads involved in costing jobs, they dont see behind the face of whats going on
  25. hydraulic speed is set by the flow rate, strength, by the operating pressure and dia of rams, these things are easily upgraded John, do you know if the mill builder uses different sized pumps, or are stacked pump setups available (these can provide the best of both worlds). The mill looks the biz, and as you say bigger is better...lol, some really good innovative equipment comming out of poland and eastern Europe these days, putting the UK to shame, patiently waiting for more vids if the big stuff, we all seem to manage to mill small timber, but are still in awe of large dia capability
