  1. I have a perpetual fear of escalators, I have to take steps to avoid them.
  2. The wood is really straight grained generally. It's easy to work, and it doesn't splinter. This makes it a superb choice for benches in sauna's (coz bare bodies and splinters are not relaxing). There's seemingly endless (very sticky) sap when you cut it, but it's all in the bark, the timber is free of sap/ resin
  3. That would be soooooo embarrassing! I hate it when I turn up and somebody else is wearing the exact same outfit!
  4. Drawbar trailer (as in, with a dolly) with a cranked drawbar so it's nice and low and can fit under the chipper on the puh. All the weight on the trailer. All the force on the tractor. And if you need to you can jacknife reverse it to put the chipper right low without taking the trailer off.
  5. Anyone know if Agg221 (Alec) is ok?
  6. It's not the sense of humour that's offensive, it's the stingyness![emoji34] Make mine a dark ale please[emoji106]
  7. It means that on that day, a post made by you received the most reactions. I was quite pleased to see that though "likes" are now a thing, there isn't a tally of total thanks or likes. I find on other forums this skews the weight of opinions.
  8. You think you can do these things Nemo, but you can't!...
  9. How did you decide your budget? You've decided you need a tool, based presumably in a series of tasks you need to perform. The tasks will dictate what size saw you need. That should dictate the budget? Seems odd to me to go about this the other way around? "I need a new vehicle to drag a big trailer, drive through muddy fields. My budget buys a kia rio....."
  10. Stretch the budget by a pub meal and buy a Husqvarna 365 xt. Old school build quality No electrickery Can be changed to 372 without spending any money (no parts needed) It's a downtuned 72cc saw, that's being squeezed to perform like a 65cc saw. So less stress, grunty, reliable.
  11. Does the manual state a protection level? IPx, IP65, etc
  12. I have used a stihl ms170, 180, 210, and 260. A husky 346, 550 and 372 And now I have some dolmar 5105's If it's yours and nobody else touches it, the husky 550, 13" It's the quickest in class, but can be finicky and tends to bond to and obey one master only. If you're on a budget, the Stihl ms 211, 12" DIY saw, but sturdy, simple and copes with pretty much any hedge you're likely to meet. Though less power=less speed. If you're using help that also uses the saw, or are scared of electrickery in carbs, the dolmar 5105, 13" 50cc, similar to the husky in performance but slightly less exciting to use. It starts super easy and has a conventional carb. It is also a really easy saw for hired hands, it'll listen to anyone. If you're a man that likes showing off, a Stihl 660/husky 395, 36" It'll use all of the fuel, make all of the noise and wreck all of your joints.
  13. The trunk will mill pretty much just the same as a live one. Standing dead oak of reasonable girth seems to not or hardly dry out at all. So if it's worth milling, mill it. the fact it was dead before felling it won't make much difference. The potential lack of bark can even be an advantage.
  14. Does it have a normal thermostat? If it does I'd remove it to eliminate it as the source of yr problem. Then the radiator itself... Presumably airlocks have been eliminated?
  15. I'm in Oxford, you're welcome to have a gander through the pile? Or you could complain a lot at people that didn't look at your thread (that'll learn 'em!) Quite quiet on here at the moment, but perhaps you could have had more success with a more descriptive title? Words like: please help, log needed, etc...
  16. Surely from their point of view: you may have abused it horribly by spraying it daily with a highly acidic cleaner or whatever. There could be a problem in the galvanising process. AFAIK, things need to cure for a bit after galvanising, ie the full protection isn't available straight away after treatment (think this is because the zinc needs to oxidize on the outside to form the barrier of zinc-oxide that seals the metal underneath from oxygen?) So physical damage (road grit?) Prior to full cure might be one explanation? Which could lead to wondering whether the dealer should have sold it yet, or made you aware to use extra caution. Etc etc. All speculation until this expert had a look. Fingers crossed for a positive outcome for you. Thanks for the update!
  17. Dunno about that...[emoji14] But yr saws are well within specs[emoji106]
  18. The 9k rpm is where it has Max power, not max rpm. Max rpm for the 395 is 12500 iirc
  19. Calculating will be very inaccurate. Against a hard edge, loosely tipped logs don't make efficient use of space. So 5x200l containers are not the same as 1x1000l, and 10x1000l not the same as 1x10000, the difference becomes proportionally bigger with smaller containers. At a guess I'd say six 240l wheelie bins is a little under1m2. Seems like a lot of hassle (filling them by hand, how will you get them on/off yr truck etc), and a lot of investment to (legally) acquire a reasonable amount of bins. Have you tried Barrow bags?
  20. Here's a theory: How about the blade not being as sharp as it could be. In the hardwood you normally cut, this just makes it a bit slower. But in this case it made the ends of the fibres you were cutting through fold into the kerf a bit. Eventually this amount of "ragged ends" was enough to hold the blade tight as all the stringy fibres were wanting to straighten themselves
  21. Great, thanks for posting this
  22. Perhaps matelot, you need explaining that the plural of "anecdote" isn't "data"...? It isn't "evidence" either btw. Just over 80% of the population of the UK is "white British". Just over 90% of all sex offences are committed by "white British" people. This is data. facts, not anecdotes. Do you now believe that all white British are rapists, or should be deported, or incarcerated just in case? Probably not. So why drone on about Muslims and foreigners and immigrants and refugees? I think the answer is simple enough, you are a racist (descriptive not insulting, statement of fact, not opinion). You believe you are better than others because of the colour of your skin and the place you were born. You go on about Islam being an evil religion, and people that choose religion are fools. Yet your own religious belief is white British nationalism. Based on the delusion that Britain is great, that this great Britain has achieved things because it's People are better than others. How is believing a person is any different from another because of the geographical location of their birth in any way reasonable? You're a religious fanatic, and like all such examples, will find whatever "evidence" you like to support your beliefs. You're sick.
  23. it wasn't for a bit this morning. it's working (for me at least) again now
  24. well made! I've made similar for bamboo canes when planting whips. my version had a sticky out foot for easy ground, and it also makes all the canes the exact same height. (which the trees don't care about, and makes no reasonable sensible difference at all, but my cdo requires it)
