  1. Looks sturdy, is it? I was gonna say I like the look but not the colour!
  2. It's a great tool! Just not the tool for this job.
  3. Well guess what I had for dinner?!?!
  4. Have you tried repeatedly pressing it, each time with more forceful aggression whilst muttering swear words at the bleeding thing?
  5. The revenue loss would be more than offset by the cost to people's health, especially in densely populated areas. I am in the process of trying to buy an electric 10t truck, the future is now...
  6. I've used the mak for a day, it's not really suitable as a forestry tool in any way. Because of the way it's made batts on the back of the tool) the balance is so bad, it's verging on being dangerous, and this makes it unpleasant to use.
  7. If you hover over a members name or avatar, a wee box pops up with member info. A green dot in front of "last active" indicates currently online
  8. The app doesn't (yet?) Work with the new forum software. The mobile version of the site works quite well. Much better than previously.
  9. That's a fair bit, over 10%! Have you perhaps got a wheel/tyre setup that's different than standard?
  10. Afaik, it's the sapwood you want to avoid. Boxed heart can split and warp, but cladding tends to be so thin that provided the board are flat when you stick them on, the fixings should stop the warping. They'll be exposed to the weather on one side, and dry on the other, so there will always be some movement. If possible, cut board from bigger trees.
  11. Hope this works? It should show a screen recording of the picture posting process on an android phone using Chrome. ScreenRecord_2017-08-01-13-22-25.mp4 PS, I can't see how I can delete the pointless posts? It used to be an option to edit/delete, (which saved me several times from reacting when the wise thing was to keep shtum!)
  12. Sorry, that was a picture trial from Android phone. Click on the "Click to choose files" Then you should be able to go straight to camera, or choose an existing file by selecting "documents" (Can't take a screenshot coz the dropdown menu disappears when I try?) In documents, you can browse through the files on yr phone
  13. Click on the paperclip, then documents
  14. They're fine. Wobbling about like a jelly only happens when you put pressure on, which you wouldn't. I've used my 180 for 10 years or so now with a carving bar, and it's still more than my artistic abilities need...
  15. How so? Surely if you use a proper sprayer, but simply change the mounting on the person, and make sure to do this in a way that's significantly stronger and more comfortable than what it came with? Increased operator comfort means increased attention.
  16. This isn't news, this has been known for ages!
  17. I like the new functionality so far, and I'm sure I'll get to like it more as I learn how to use it. There's just one thing I've not worked out yet, when I use another tab for a bit, two black bars (a pit like a "pause" appear in the AT tab headery thing, but I can't see what for? They vanish as soon as I get back to the AT tab.
  18. I have some bone oak, I have heaps of steam, it's just time I may be short of...
  19. So, have you tried bending any bone oak yet? I might try some bits tomorrow, just coz I'm curious to know whether it can be done this way.
  20. Bone oak (aka stag oak) is the " skeleton" of heartwood left after all the sapwood has rotted off. It is very durable, not very pliable. I've no idea if it can be steam bent.
  21. Thanks, The child has got from her father the ambition to always want to do thing that are just beyond her skillset. It means that often the result may not be quite as good as she'd imagined but she learns so much this way! Sure did. She loves her math, so she calculated its water displacement before any wood was touched. 338 liters, so plenty of buoyancy:thumbup1: The cover was a sheet of heavy canvas (from an old yurt) that she painted inside and out with many layers of latex glue to form an attached rubbery layer. Worked quite well, 100% waterproof but we found it not very abrasion resistant. When rubbed against things its rubberyness grips and makes it peel. Easy to fix though:thumbup1: With great difficulty and dogged determination! She can go with the wind quite well, against it not so much. It really just wants to spin. I've some pictures of her using it, but she wisely decided to strip before boarding and I'm not going to post pics of my daughter naked.
  22. Right, never carved anything before. All three were from the one bit of birch. What do you think?
  23. My daughter wanted to build a coracle (so she did...) and needed to steam. As it was a project to be entered in the local village show's woodworking class I wasn't allowed to help with the actual build. I was a clamp, an anvil, a waterboy and advisor only. I'm very proud of her, she's only nine and built a boat out of one scaffold plank (with plenty spare) that she can carry, and it works! We got a pressure cooker, attached a pipe (10mm poly fuel/air line), through the window to the outside. We used tree guards for the chamber, because they're twin walled, easy to carry, easy to cut to size and when we needed a long chamber we just gaffer taped two together. We used doubled up guards, for better heat retention, sealed the ends just with a plastic bag and a hairband. Mistakes were made, lessons learned (patience, dear child...!)
  24. I just bent my fork whilst trying to lift the dog!
