  1. Looks like physical damage to me, ie the tree got damaged by impact, strimmer, animals, vehicle or some such. This might also have been caused by the strange hovering black blocks, I dont trust them! The holes in the picture appear to be in wood that's been dead and rotting away for a while, so whoever is eating the wood isn't causing the tree further damage. It's hard to predict the future of the tree without close examination to see to what extent the trunk has been hollowed out. But even if it's completely hollow the tree could live for another 100 years. Is there anything nearby the tree would damage if it were to keel over? If not I'd just leave it, maybe take the deadwood out of the crown if it's in a well used area. If there's any targets of value nearby I'd fell and replace.
  2. None of my smaller saws have one (my 50cc dollies might? dunno tbh) but the husky 372, ms660 (with big bore P+C!) and ms880 all start better without the decomp? I've never used them, never broken a starter (had a cord snap once or twice on aging saws) never had any elbow issues? Starting a saw isn't really something you do that often, and the bigger the saw, the longer the cuts and thus less starting? Maybe when I'm really old I'll regret this, but I think not.
  3. Mechanical sympathy does these things better, and more...
  4. pretend it doesn't exist normally works best. never use it:thumbup1:
  5. Hell yeah!!:thumbup::thumbup:
  6. I wasn't really offended, that doesn't mean I think such should go unchallenged. The use of the word gay is fine. The use of the word gay as a negative is not, as it infers whatever the subject of conversation is is worse just like homosexuality is worse than heterosexuality. Do you actually believe the use of the word nigger is acceptable because it's spelling is close to that of a nation named after a river?:confused1: That's like saying you are a rapist because it's only one letter away from the racist?:confused1:
  7. I prefer to stand up for what I believe is right rather than roll with it and see it continue. I think there's heaps of people that use "gay" as a negative for example, I find that unacceptable and whenever I confront a conversation partner with that fact face-to-face it's invariably agreed with. The use of the term is just so ingrained people don't see it as a problem. just like people didn't see the use of the word nigger as an issue, or racism in general, but unless people stand up and say no, others will continue to get hurt needlessly. I'm not gay, yet I find using the word as a negative unacceptable. I'm not female, yet find negative terms like "throw like a girl" unacceptable. I'm white, yet find the word nigger unacceptable
  8. I understand it was meant as a joke. Using sexual orientation as a negative just isn't funny
  9. I'm not homosexual I'm bi-sexual. If you wish to use my sexual orientation as an insult, or in any other way as a negative again I suggest you come and do so to my face?
  10. a quick glance on ebay suggests these hold some value. I suppose old or new, they don't really ever wear and old ones are probably better made than new ones so sought after? still, might find one locally at a farm sale if you're lucky?
  11. Dude, this makes no sense to anyone. I presume this was meant as a spelling correction for the other thread (that makes only a little more sense?) you started?
  12. So weird? The maxity (nissan cabstar really) is only available in the UK as a 3.5t vehicle? I'd phone a different insurance company
  13. I'm genuinely baffled by the level of patriarchal sexist bull spouted here. "she needs to get **** told" told what? to be quiet or you'll boot her? "man up" wtf does "man up"even mean, establishing oneself as a dominant power? Whenever my purchases were questioned by my wife I'd explain why I chose what. The same would go for her purchases. Something to do with being equal partners in our marriage and equal in life generally....
  14. I have to admit to cutting the odd corner myself on the linguistics front, "coz" being my most common sin:blushing: but I'm right proper baffled occasionally by the level of language uttered. But mebbe I shud of just paid more attension in skool:001_cool: I think it's probably more common for non-native English speakers like myself to notice these things, as it goes against what we've consciously learned, whereas a native little Englander will have likely paid no attention whatsoever to their language beyond the absolute necessities. I'm not a total grammar nazi, I know some people struggle with spelling, which is not always a reflection on their intelligence or effort. Sometimes I come across things that rile me rather more but I'm learning to cope, with much help from my psychologist and anger management consultants.
  15. I was wondering if an old land roll would be of use? I have a 5ft roll, two 5ft diax5ft length barrels essentially that are probably about 1" thick? Can't measure it up just now as I'm not there for a while though.
  16. Send me a pm stating exactly what it is you're after, and what you want to know from them and I'll give them a call on monday morning. My Dutch is generally better than my English.
  17. For your needs and budget I'd go WJ/WG grand cherokee over the merc. The crd WG was built in austria, to higher standards than the ml with which it shares many parts. Plenty of power (200hp with a gentle remap, 165 standard), auto box makes easy towing (3500kg allowed), old school enough to be fixable (no dpf or such!) but modern enough to do it well. The 2.7 5cyl is a peach!
  18. Right Boyo, if you want this doing then some action is needed! I'm in the Netherlands now, and aforementioned mate will need a bit of notice, you've three days left...
  19. Customers that tried the cheapest quote but got burned and have seen the error of their ways, come to you, cap in hand, full of remorse? Most companies would benefit from such customers I reckon
  20. sure, it's not the charging more that's the issue. It's the apparent reason for it. Charging more is not a problem, but it does mean you've to explain to the customer why it's reasonable to do so. If you do, and convince the customer then you're victorious:thumbup: You've earned more than you would've before, you've a chance to prove the standard of your work and the customer is far more likely to recommend you to others. "i tried some chaps coz their quote was the cheapest, boy was I wrong! Mate, if you want the job done properly you need to hire (your company here)!!!" Whereas in the example earlier it goes like this: "I tried some chaps coz their quote was cheapest, I was wrong! then I tried the more expensive company again, explained what had happened and they tried to tie me over a barrel, so now I have to sort it" myself at higher cost yet! I wouldn't recommend either of those companies!
  21. Really? Maybe I woke up too grumpy but I read it like this: You quoted for a job but didn't manage to convince the customer your quote was good value/quality The customer spent their money elsewhere and realised their error too late. You got offered another chance to convince the customer you offer value for money, but put in a higher quote to spite them? Or did you add an explanation to your quote explaining why you thought you'd have to charge more the 2nd time? Either way, you failed to convince them again. Now the customer has spent their money with yet another business, not you, and from the sound of it they're not likely to call you again or recommend you to anyone. I don't see the victory?
  22. bloodshed, cows on all the motorways boys bragging about how many heifers would fit in their tranny without looking overloaded there would be endless discussion but no resolution about what to do with dead cows but the saddles would be adorned with so much shiny kit the horses would break their suspension regularly
  23. I theorify against you Bob! I've seen plenty of ultra low pressure tyres on split rims, down to about 8psi. the split rims hold the tyres on better when the internal pressure doesn't do much to help. I suppose it's down to what pressure the tyres were designed for, rather than the rims.
  24. You've seen a number of new saws seize or partially seize the very same day they got wet? I thought I'd seen a bit, and I get about plenty, but I ain't never seen nuffin' like that!
