  1. Just had 5 months of runaround by the tax man in my accounts after I started up. Tried to prevent me claiming for training even though I had qualified the year before and was "updating skills". Nptc certificates scanned in and emailed put the kybosh on that one. So after 5 months hassle I have to pay £80. Why? Because they don't believe the iPad I bought is solely for business use! Having a good accountant helped immensely.
  2. Had an 07 Ranger Supercab for the last 3 years. Great machine. Just crap reverse gearing. Kids are 12 and 13 and travel in it fine for short distances. Had three adults in there a couple of times for half hour journeys to the airport - they survived! Fold up the rear seats and my climbing kit and tools stay clean and tidy in there. It had a Mountain Top lid when I bought it, which is easy to remove. Ladder rack behind cab, so ladders tie to that and to the back of the lid. All the saws, fuel and rigging kit fit in the loadbed, Jameson poles, rakes etc sit diagonally fine. It works for me. Would like to get a newer version, but for some strange reason Ford don't offer the Supercab with the 3.2 litre engine, just the 2.2 which to me seems to weeny to do a lot of towing.

    550xpg

My 2012 550xpg has just grumbled to a halt. Sounds like someone has poured a bag of nails in the engine. It was an early one and had starting issues. Done a load of work with it in 3 years But no second thoughts. New one ordered already. Wish I had it for today's job. The 560 is a bit heavy for a long day of snedding.

    My accident

Glad you're still around to post, Sean. Wishing you all the best as you start to recover. Hope the pain eases and Salisbury comes good for you.
  5. Dear Suzie ;-) The other week up here about 4 firms were looking for climbers. We're flat out.
  6. I stipulate clear up in the quote and mention £50.00 additional cleaning bill should any equipment or clothing be affected. We turned up to work on 4 military quarters garden trees. All 4 were covered in landmines. Minging.
  7. They're nice ropes. I use the 14 and 16mm teufels. They've lasted well and taken some big lumps.
  8. Scary stuff. Hope you heal well Sean. Best wishes.
  9. I bought an 880 last year for a couple of big elm jobs. This week I've been felling big stuff for Big J. The 880 was used several times each day for felling. What a saw!

    I am back

That's scary biscuits, Andy. Hope your recovery goes well and you find something to keep you challenged in the meantime. You've certainly had the best of luck and care surviving all that. Long may it continue.
  11. With the lean in the right direction it's fairly straightforward. Small gob. Bore cut leaving a normal sized hinge of sound wood. Then release from the back.
  12. I had to bail out of chogging a stem today. My mate's wife appeared with breakfast pies and a creme egg. Was down in seconds.
  13. Do you run the 540 on Aspen OMT?
  14. We got the rain just as I was de-kitting the truck this afternoon. Soaked. Hoping to stay dry tomorrow Jon.
  15. Temperature has gone up a bit. But gusting 40 up here just now. Gonna be an interesting day.
  16. Getting seriously p'd off with the winds we're getting up here. 25 years I've lived up here and don't remember a time like it. Gusting over 40 tomorrow and the last couple of weeks we've had day after day of 30mph. The cold and rain is fine, but it's not comfortable up a tree in this and it's stopped quite a few fells. Roll on some calm days!
  17. Sorry Adam, meant to say, nice video! Love my little 150, and would have a top handle one tomorrow if I didn't have the battery husky. Mind you, I've used the backhandle 150 up the tree a couple of times. Ridiculously light. Stevie B, I'll bring my spare 540 and the 150 down for you to play with at Ballindalloch.
  18. Must be the time of year for it! Got to drop 20 of the buggers today. Majority around the 24-30". 576xp all the way. Just trying out my new Gopro so daren't embarrass myself by putting a video on yet. Great crashes though. Spec was fell and walk away. Result!
  19. Had the same symptoms a couple of years ago. Woke up with stinging pain so bad I couldn't open my eye. Eyewash didn't make a difference and I couldn't see what was in there. Doc referred me to the hospital and they identified it as a corneal ulcer. The object was gone but the damage was done. Antibiotic drops for about two weeks and eyewash twice a day. Sorted. Bugger of a thing though.
  20. Softwoods 550, hardwoods 560. The Stihls are grunt saws, but it's these two Huskys that put a smile on your face.
  21. Nice piece of grass up the hill from me, 1.2 acres, £120,000. Outline planning permission only for one house. That's about average up here now. Mad.
