  1. Oh yes. Love mine.
  2. 2 to date. Have plenty wire and connectors to do the repair at the pole boxes now. Both though had been joined halfway along. "We don't join them" said the BT man. Yeah, right. So explain the perfectly finished ends at both sides of the break then. Both times!
  3. Bet that rattled his teeth!
  4. Mad busy from last Dec. We were booking 10 weeks ahead for a while. February was just stupid and did a few 6 day weeks. It eased a bit over the last month, but still about 4 weeks ahead. Looks like it will be a quieter August. We've put our rates up again too. Didn't stop advertising in the local papers. That's working best for us.
  5. Our local dealer is now selling more and more Aspen after I asked for them to get some for me over a year ago. A lot of their machines on sale all have Aspen recommendations attached to them. Honda etc. Out of 11 saws, 9 are now running on it quite happily. Just the 346 and 576 are on unleaded mix now. For me it means no concerns over stale fuel if one has been sat on the shelf for a while. And less worry over warranty claims with some of the issues newer saws have been having.
  6. This one going around again. Darwin's theory of evolution, strongest and cleverest survive.
  7. We've been using it for about a month now and are really impressed. It's definitely a way to increase safety.
  8. There was a property in there many years back in the extra area we want. The bit we have already agreed on had outline planning agreed in 2010 but had lapsed. Power, water and phone all present.. We were thinking of putting a small wooden chalet in the extra part. Leaving it surrounded by trees. Thanks for the price detail. Going to work on a suitably worded email today.

Great set of photos of the Yews. You definitely have a talent there. Blown up to A2 and mounted on a wall would be excellent. Glad you're getting out and about a bit more. Stretch those boundaries ;-)
  10. Think its probably too wee to get a grant on. The plot I've agreed on has enough room for house and a decent sized workshop/garage which like most of us I'm desperate for. The extra bit gives scope for a few ideas, with almost all the trees retained.
  11. Private deal, mate. Owner access is from all three sides through fire break tracks in the Christmas trees. It sits by itself, so not commercially viable to deal with. The Scots Pine are all pretty gnarly with a few complete dead dotted here and there. Not seen DNB, but then not really looked fully yet.
  12. Ouch. Friend bought an empty field of 3 acres for about 6 grand extra just last year. At 30k I think he was having a laugh, or expecting you to build another house on it. There is no other access to this piece as it is surrounded by growing Christmas trees, so it's not suitable to sell to another builder.
  13. Hi guys and gals, Want to buy a 1 acre piece of woodland up here in the North East of Scotland. Mature Scots Pine nicely spaced. Can anyone give me an idea of what I should offer for it? I've agreed to buy a building plot that is beside it and would love to own and manage that piece too. Cheers.
  14. SNP, way up here :-)
  15. Just bought my second pair of Cofra boots. Class 2. Pretty lightweight and got them for the summer. Nice and flexible for normal climbing work with very good grip. £68 can't be sniffed at. Stick with my protector Pros for spiking and will be back into them for the winter.
  16. Just wish the new Ranger had the 3.2 in the Supercab body. Disappointed it doesn't. I'd rather have the big engine grunt than the screaming 2.2.
  17. If someone works at ours they get tea, coffee and bacon rolls or soup for lunch. Do unto others..... Yesterday's job had a few "while you're here". But afternoon tea and home baking meant only too happy to oblige. They asked if there was an extra charge. Said thanks for the cuppa and No. They added a tenner on for each of us anyway. A good day.

    My accident

I can only echo the thoughts of all the guys above. Great that you are escaping to the outdoors and keep the photos coming. Your wife's message brought a tear to my eyes too. She sounds fabulous. Keep on keeping on dude.
  19. Yup! Call me simple. I think it's time the pot was stirred and the bigger parties got a fright. They promise but don't deliver. Only make changes when backed into a corner. Plus as ex mil, both Con and Lab have stripped the military to the bone.
  20. So he's an apprentice and you don't want to pay him for 1 hr 40 mins of breaks, saving yourself thruppence ha'penny if he's on minimum wage? If your margins are so tight that you need to consider this then perhaps you can't afford an apprentice.
  21. Leave the stainless tubes on. If nothing else they give the sills some protection.
  22. The Ace/Jet winch is great for hung stuff. Got mine from Securefix too, 4 years ago. Rated 1600kg lift 2.5k pull. Easy to open, clean and service.
  23. Just had 5 months of runaround by the tax man in my accounts after I started up. Tried to prevent me claiming for training even though I had qualified the year before and was "updating skills". Nptc certificates scanned in and emailed put the kybosh on that one. So after 5 months hassle I have to pay £80. Why? Because they don't believe the iPad I bought is solely for business use! Having a good accountant helped immensely.
  24. Had an 07 Ranger Supercab for the last 3 years. Great machine. Just crap reverse gearing. Kids are 12 and 13 and travel in it fine for short distances. Had three adults in there a couple of times for half hour journeys to the airport - they survived! Fold up the rear seats and my climbing kit and tools stay clean and tidy in there. It had a Mountain Top lid when I bought it, which is easy to remove. Ladder rack behind cab, so ladders tie to that and to the back of the lid. All the saws, fuel and rigging kit fit in the loadbed, Jameson poles, rakes etc sit diagonally fine. It works for me. Would like to get a newer version, but for some strange reason Ford don't offer the Supercab with the 3.2 litre engine, just the 2.2 which to me seems to weeny to do a lot of towing.
