  1. Looks like the Makitas take the Huskvarna spec Oregon bars. Can someone confirm this is the case?
  2. As I said above, it's apples and oranges. Not quite as bad as comparing a Stihl 261 with a 661, but you get the idea. It is a bit of a luxury, but where the 536 comes into its own is where you want to be quieter; next to call centres, care homes, etc. We did work next to a care home and it was nice to know that we wouldn't be causing any alarm to the residents, or constant noise fatigue. Early starts are nicer with the battery saw as well. You can crack on and not annoy the neighbours having a long lie in! We've had a couple of comments, customers surprised how quiet we were....... Until we start the chipper.
  3. Had the backhandled 150 for about 2 years now and would love to get the topper. Pruning cuts are smooth as anything, and it is incredibly lightweight. Would I use it in place of a Silky up a tree. As well as, not instead of, if doing a big pruning job. I wouldn't have called the T536 a pruning saw. It's got more oomph than the 150T and happily start dismantles with it until getting to bigger timber. It's got a much rougher cut than the 150, and it's about as heavy as the T540. Had one since they came out and it's a great beast. I know Reg did a video comparing them, but I don't think you can. Almost like comparing apples and oranges.
  4. Couldn't move from Moray. Sit on my couch, stove on, and look out to the Moray Firth and over to the far north. Look out the back to the south and just farm fields up the hill. Drier than most places in the UK, sheltered by the Highlands to the west and north, and the Grampians to the south. Plenty of trees to play in. Planning to build this year, just over the hill behind and the view will be south, rolling hills towards the mountains. Been to most places in the UK and if I was forced away, it would have to be NZ I think.
  5. I was gutted when my 16 month old MS880 died on me after only about 40 hours work. The needle bearing had collapsed and the heat slagged the oiler. It seems to be just a plastic cage on the bearing whereas the Husky ones are all metal. I think this has been a problem with other newer Stihls where this bearing has collapsed. Is this the case?
  6. Paid!!!!:biggrin: In it comes.... out it all goes
  7. Have you the modified body section to prevent the battery coming all the way out? Now if the battery dislodges it stops at a secondary catch, preventing it falling out the tree. Mine and my colleague's were refitted under warranty.
  8. Will the updated parts be covered by warranty?
  9. The 5% drop was requested at the quote stage. If it had been a small job I could weather the long payment. But nearly 4K was a big ask. The contractor I worked for is probably still waiting for the main customer to pay. I'm at the end of the chain. :-( I also had to pay the traffic control within 30 days as per that company's terms. The contractor didn't want to pay that direct, even though they could reclaim the vat. They obviously didn't want to expose themselves to that debt while waiting payment. So I take the hit. The hardest bit has been holding off from kit repairs, replacements and some vehicle work.
  10. Emailed in an invoice to a company a week before this thread started. Still awaiting payment for nearly £4K. More annoying was the fact that they asked me to drop the labour cost by 5% as a sign of good faith and on the understanding that I would be getting further work from them. I can earn my final income from that job more easily just doing Mrs Smith's trees and other residential work, and get paid within 2 weeks in pretty much every case. Any bets when I might see my money? So tempted just to ditch them as a contractor. It's not like we're short of work up here.
  11. Fed up with the Stein cube. It came with a tangle fairy already installed, and I'm damn sure i didn't request one. Thought about some kind of fishing reel on a spike mount, that can drop into a plate if you're on hard ground. Anyone tried that? Or if the reel could mount on to the Big Shot pole.
  12. Chain not rotating on the bar at all? Seized bar nose sprocket? Sometimes it's the daft things.
  13. Just had my 03 out the garage after fuel pump sensor issues. New fuel pump and coding to the ecu left me £1500 out of pocket. Apart from that clutch and starter changed.
  14. We were laughing earlier at the storm Desmond warnings. It's just normal winter weather up here and the trees are used to it. Not a lot of call outs for us. Only 3 last winter. Hoping these Sitka stay put as we're going back in a week to drop the last 30.
  15. Had to give up on a line of 60ft edge Sitka this afternoon as the wind built. Tops were fairly dancing and the wind against fell direction with an expensive fence behind. Ho hum. Wet and wild now and expecting a soaking in the morning. Connie bashing too. Morale will not be high ;-)
  16. I was going to call myself an arborist first. But I thought that might send the thread off on a tangent ;-)
  17. I'll state first that I'm an atheist. Is this the church trying to get some media time? Some publicity? Call me cynical, but with the tens of thousands suffering through atrocities in the Middle East over the last decade or so, how come none of that made him doubt his god?
  18. Soaked to the skin today. Blowing a hooley just now, gusting to 50 just now and carrying on through the night.
  19. My 560xpg just being repaired under warranty a year in. Top exhaust screws worked loose. Damaged the threads irreparably and the heat escaping melted the chain brake handle pivot point at the clutch side, causing the handle to fail. Dismantling a big Beech just now and missing it like crazy.
  20. Had a Protos almost since they came out. Great protection, comfortable for those with a medium size head. Sweat band can be swapped out at break once it's soaked. Noise protection not quite as good as the other helmets, especially around a chipper. We run Sena comms in them. Installs nicely on the side as opposed to the back of other helmets where it's a bit more awkward to use. If this one broke I'd buy another tomorrow.
  21. Been using a 28" chain on my 576 for a long time now. Sharp, it's quite happy through any of the hardwoods - I do a lot of elm with it. Do a lot of ringing up with an 18" bar which just makes me grin.
  22. Hey Jon. Had my Brian James trailer for 3 years now. Double axle tipper 3m with cage sides and ramps. Can't fault it. Been a great tool for me.
  23. We'll be down. It's a great day out.
  24. I ran my first "early" 550 on mix. Like the others back then it was a pig to hot start, a nightmare to start after refuelling and eventually shuddered to a halt. Since then the replacement 550 has been run on Aspen from the get go. As has my 540's and 560. All start well, run well and, touchwood", have given me no problems for quite some time now. Has anyone else run these saws exclusively on Aspen and had problems?
