    390xp vs 395xp

Are you using the autotune version? Only asking as I'm running a standard 576 and it's coming up for 3 years old, so thinking ahead for replacement. It's my in-between saw, from 550, 576, 880.
  2. Called in by the lady buying the house next door. There are three semi-mature Sycamores in her back garden that have all had their roots infringed as well. Fortunately for her a failure puts them through the back fence and not her new house. We called the council after seeing the trees in the previous pictures.
  3. There is also the question of my liability. Knowing there is a risk of tree failure, can I be held liable if I don't inform the house owner?
  4. I would offer to demonstrate what a Swedish Candle looks like (with added candelabra)
  5. Bump, and a follow on question. The builder has now filled in the ground, turfed around the trees and erected a fence that puts the trees into the new house's back garden. If the trees fail on to the house or other, who is liable? Can the council be held liable since they issue the completion certificate with knowledge that the trees have been rendered unsafe?
  6. Still laughing. Love it.:lol:
  7. We supply 2 sets of allotments with arb chip, as well as a couple of organic growers, who use them between their raised beds. They can't seem to get enough.
  8. This is a great idea. I'll be registering my kit at the weekend when I get 5 minutes peace. Thanks for this Steve. Will pass on to friends.
  9. We recently took down dead Elm from a property in Inverurie. There were 19 Elms (mixed with a couple of Beech). They run on a north/south line along about 150yards. We took 5 skeletons down, by that I mean absent of bark to nearly ground level. Biggest was 4ft dbh. Of the rest, 3 presently show decline, but the rest are apparently fine, and all are around the 50/60 foot height, 24 to 36"dbh. I was surprised at how there was such a range of health within one group.
  10. The closest one will fail onto the house's sun-room and roof. I believe it now becomes a civil matter between the builder and the buyer.
  11. Planners forgot to put any protection on the trees. Since the builders saw us on site I guess we won't get the job There's about 12 like this.
  12. There's been a lot on nonsense been talked about root protection for trees. I mean, let's face it, these 40 footers have years of life left in them. Besides, we've dug down 5ft, 4 metres on the other side to put in a root barrier to protect the house.
  13. Like it, but going to have to hide this thread from my wife, who's a teacher :-)
  14. What did you do to yours, Stubby? I managed to get all the parts I needed through the local main dealer reasonably quickly and put it back together myself. You do need three hands though. Luckily I didn't throw the old bits out, as the brass threaded inserts for the starter casing were larger than those on my saw.
  15. Had this tried on me last year. The Police charity. I asked for their website details, as obviously they would have one. "It's not up and running yet", was the reply. So I said when it is call me back. Off they went. Checked the phone number online and it came up with the fact the number was used by scammers.
  16. No way I'm doing it naked, but perhaps doing it in a kilt will get the next price up a bit. Must put that in my method statement.
  17. Really sad to hear about the low prices. When one of the stalls was selling a big mushroom for £50 it makes a bit of a mockery when you consider the skill and artistic ability that were on display. Is there an option to put a reserve price on the carvings and take them home if they fail to meet that? Next year I plan to stay for the whole day to see you guys go from start to finish. Want to do better than just mushrooms.
  18. My daughter voted for the Angel. A lot of truly inspiring work. I liked the couple sat together on the bench, Roni's warrior got my coin though. The Wizard was smart, and I liked the bear catching the fish. It seems now that carvers have to move away from the bears, owls and eagles and try something more unique. It's the quirky that gets the big response, so no wonder that Pete's Cowboy took the prize.
  19. That's a nice wee set up Wolter, with decent chainsaw security. Got mine logo'd up. Want something a bit fancier yet, but debating cutting off the heavy steel back and swapping to ally.
  20. Ran my 576 for last 2 years on an 18 and 26" bar and always felt it could pull more. Couple of months ago I did some elm felling for Big J and strapped a 28" bar on it. With a sharp chain it went through the elm full bar length quite happily. As GTS above, I went from top handle to 346 to 576 on 18 then the 26 for the stump. To avoid the weight issue early on, I've put an 18" bar on my 550/346 when dismantling, and swap to that combo from the 540's 14" bar. It keeps a lighter saw in the hand for longer and works well. Then to the 576 for the extra grunt at the bottom. Just got an 880, but it's still the 576 that comes out first for anything up to 3ft or so.
  21. That's just crap, guys. Hope they catch the scrotes.
