  1. I followed the strong suggestions on earlier threads and went for Blue Tongue. Don't regret it. Nice and light to use after using 13mm.
  2. Mentioned the 576xp just above. Outstanding saw, but it's not an "all day" saw in the wood. 346/357 or 550/560 have got to be the first saws out the truck for that. Or a 260.
  3. £250 for that size of stump is not unreasonable. Wouldn't be fair to comment on what's left without knowing the written spec of the quote.
  4. I've been using the Protos since it came out in the UK. Still find it the most comfortable helmet I've used to date. I got hold of a spare headband and spare ear defender covers, so that I can swap out and clean. Cleaning the ear defenders is so important, as bad hygiene leads to painful infections in the ear. I spent a couple of decades in the Air Force wearing headsets and this was a common problem, especially when working in the heat of the Gulf. As above, if I lost or broke it I'd buy another tomorrow.
  5. Cheers mate. I'll bear that in mind. Sounds looney!
  6. Lot of woodland felling recently. 550xpg on 15 or 346xp with 13. Forced into two days with my 576xp (not autotune) with 18" on it in awkward trees on a bank. Awesome felling saw but heavy on the arms for snedding all day. Got my eye on a 560 with 18 now, and plan on leaving the 28" bar on the 576.
  7. Candlelit here. Our kids getting the message, that war is not the fun that xbox makes it out to be.
  8. And that's after several glasses of wine! Of interest (or probably not!) I've never been asked to show any of my quals when hiring a MEWP up here. One firm did ask for proof of "Hired-in Plant" insurance though.
  9. CS 47 is the one you want. Or the second route is CS39 with the IPAF MEWP ticket.
  10. An appalling loss. My wife and I send you our sincere condolences. Nothing can be worse than losing your children before your own time is up. Jim and Amanda
  11. Had a Stein jacket, but it lost its waterproofing on first wash. Fine to keep the breeze off and light showers. Since then I've found various outdoor stores have jackets almost completely identical, sold for rock climbing or cycling. Usually cheaper than the Stein ones too. They dry quick, but have two, so swap out the damp one at lunchtime. Dry by the next morning.
  12. Run both my T540's on Aspen 2 from new. No starting problems. But the saw definitely cools down fast, preferring dismantles to pruning work. The latter doesn't let it warm up and choke starts become commonplace. No sign of FRT up here yet, Eddie.
  13. Hate to say it, but the iPad is the one to go for. It works. The others seem good but end up more hassle
  14. Test drove the new DMax a couple of weeks back. Really liked it and would happily replace my Ranger with one. What confused me (easily done) was that the Isuzu towbar offered was advertised as a 3 tonne one. Has that been uprated yet?
  15. The friction on the stem would make the ascent a right mare as you got higher.
  16. 1 job in 2 1/2 years from the website. Do I care...nope. It's too rural. The majority of my customer base buy the local papers, their age range means few actually use the internet. The remainder of my work is word of mouth, or subcontracting for my mates. Where it does make make an impact is that my website costs £5.49 per month, whereas the newspapers are just over £200 per month. I think the demographic will change over the next decade, as the younger internet users slide into my customer age group.
  17. What mesh size do you use?
  18. I'd heard that before. Not had a problem in the 2 years I've had it though, but I'm always cautious on the bends and bumpy stuff.
  19. He's just put two guys through maintenance and crosscutting for us. Felling tickets for them in a couple of weeks time.
  20. Sorry Richy. I gave Brendan in here a heads up after he posted looking for a tail lift tipper on Saturday.
  21. My first chip truck! Collected this Transit tipper from Peterborough yesterday and straight into action this morning. 03 plate, but was one of a pair with only 45k on the clocks. Made it all the way North last night without a hiccup. Will give it a couple of months with the lift, to see if its worth leaving on, or ditch it to gain more load.
  22. Have you tried Malcom Moore (Treewise) near Elgin? He should be cheaper than that
