  1. Fellas. I don't think the lady is a tree surgeon?! You may want to try and polish a turd because you have time and expertise. They are facked! Fell grind and replant away from boundary with a suitable species!
  2. Try a Stihl dealer.
  3. Why do those parasites that write the so called news make it sound as though the contractors had to scale a 10' wall? I bet he moaned like a bugger in the summer and if anything I would say it has increased his property price. Everyone knows that all trees are dangerous and can't wait to drop something on you.
  4. Good rope for the price. Got 50m for £100.
  5. I do see your point and in an ideal world it would be excellent. I wouldn't stop there though I would do the same for all arb climbing kit, tippers, chippers, grinders etc. But things aren't that bad and it won't stop people stealing more and more of your kit. At the end of the day it doesn't bother me if Joe Bloggs has unqualified people doing their trees. I've been doing this too long to let it bother me.
  6. Thing is there is no law stopping me from buying a trowel, spirit level, grinder etc. I see the point but could also see theft being more prominent.
  7. Off the top of my head that's the blue 14mm just under 6.
  8. I've got the 12mm English Braid. Nice and light with good breaking strain.
  9. I bought a small bottle of this for £8. Everything still runs fine and it's a lot cheaper than Aspen although the petrol still has the other nasties in it. Apparently Ethanol is going to be in our fuel in a lot higher ratio's.
  10. This thread is a mine field!
  11. I would rather the rescuer had the appropriate gear on the rescue harness. Being spun around while someone is trying to locate my first aid on the tree motion wouldn't be welcome. If I can't get down get me down quick to the FA which should already be on hand as soon as you are on site. How many guys don't have anyone to perform aerial rescue?
  12. Have they been reading up on industrial rope access?
  13. I should have said compared to DRT where you just float in the air.
  14. I prefer SRT to DRT or is it DDRT or SSQZPT. Any who if they were going to change from the widely accepted term it should be called Super Rope Technique. After all the poo pooing it seems like Single Rope Technique has got a new name as if to say the powers that be think it's kind of acceptable now? It cracked me up when people said SRT was dangerous because if you cut your rope above the hitch you would fall and die instantly?!
  15. I started with a Jensen 530 it was a good chipper. I am now onto a Schliesing 200 that had 1200 hrs when I got it and it is better. I'd pay that bit extra.
  16. I'll chip in with it depends what time of year it is. I find that in spring the wood is more prone to snap, I wouldn't be anchoring in to anything smaller than my wrist just from my experience. If you needed to get higher you could redirect above your main anchor but not miles above.
  17. Nice uncle in law. The other quote was just under £250 cheaper to a couple of likelys. If I was the uncle I would have put my hand in my pocket and paid the little bit extra to help out the niece! Sounds like he has a bit of cash?
  18. Working costs to the bone means little profit and trudging around all day thinking what you could be working for. It's hard to give anyone a price whithout viewing, people could give you rates between 2-£300 per man per day add that to your costs plus some profit. Doesn't sound like there would be any change from 3K including stump.
  19. That's not picky. I'm sure that would be marked down if found on the exam payper.
  20. 10 years + and I have never managed to kill a Conifer by cutting it in Winter. You can't win at the moment I have been told it's the wrong time a of year to cut any tree. Next I will be told spring is the best time for reductions?
  21. Now come on?! Smack heads can't help it they earn **** all so the courts have to go for the earners. Come the revolution... Any how I would love to hear how the figure was plucked from the air?
  22. Best bet phone an insurance company.
  23. I was using a JCB to push a load of Horse Chestnut up. The yard mechanic started going potty he thought I had smashed the sump because there was so much of what looked like engine oil all over the wet concrete.
  24. I want to know more about the 360. Apparently there is a smaller version in the pipeline to rival the ms150. I would hope that more Echo's get sold and the market divided more to rid a bit of the complacent attitude especially from Stihl.
  25. Agreed. Why do some people need recognition for everything they do? We have a job working at height maybe not 100ft every day but so what if it is. Makes no odds to me if I am 10ft or 10,000ft I don't feel the need to tell everyone and claim my job is the most dangerous in the world ever. Have you seen those guys cutting limbs off while standing on a ladder now that's a dangerous occupation.
