1. I had to start up on my own 3 years ago and have got by with help from mates who are tree surgeons and casual labour. I would love to be in a position to employ but work is too sporadic.

Same for me and every other tree surgeon, even the big boys sending their lads out in 3.5's. Payloads on light commercials are shite thanks to Brussels and the random number generators.

I want to find a way where I don't have to buy a new vehicle but it looks like I may be getting a 5t in the future. I thought about the 3.5 trailer behind the Canter but I would be overloaded with a tracked chipper on the truck. Looks like my cheapest way round it is a small van for tools and towing and a 3.5 trailer behind the truck combined 2.8 payload. What do other people do? Thanks for the response

3.5t gross truck with GTW 7t. Towing a 750kg trailer if the truck weighed more than 3.5t gross does the load get offset considering the TW of the trailer could be higher with an extra 2.75t behind?
  6. I was thinking of a 110 to carry tools inc' tracked chipper and tow 3.5t. Does any one know what the leg' is, do you then need a restricted O licence as it will potentially be 7t GTW? VOSA don't make it easy or crystal, I have searched the internet and am still unsure. Like anyone with a 3.5t I am overloaded with my kit and my lunch on board.
  7. SSSI. Happy days you take nothing away it all stays on site chip at base or leave neatly stacked. Nothing brought in or taken out unless the price is right. Well that's how it is isn't it?
  8. I tried the Pinto a couple of times but found it didn't tend easily all the time. I also tried the Pinto spacer between plates and on 'biner but that took away some of the friction needed. So I keep ending up back with the basic set up on 10.5mm and Beeline which works pretty well. I'm playing around at the moment trying to make my own friction device.
  9. I have seen some 110 Landy's with tipper conversions that take nearly 1.5t before they make 3.5t limit. Looking at my Canter 3.5t with 800kg to spare is it worth considering the Landy route? Any thoughts on pos' and neg' am I correct with figures? I vaguely recall something about axel weights but can't remember what it was! Cheers
  10. Fink wunce fink tweyes fink lader saft. Hope those guys ladders and saws were ok!?
  11. Presactamundo! 3.5t trucks are great for gardeners but tree surgeons especially when you have bod's in the van and all your saws, rigging etc in the back...what you said. I'm overweight with just my sandwiches in the cab.
  12. So long as they don't need to go into your manhole to give it a good rodding.
  13. The older guys remember when light hearted banter wasn't racist some yung guys don't. What happened to the guy on the deck:confused1:
  14. Modified Stihl strimmer harness with just shoulder straps takes the weight of big saws. Or if your harness allows you to clip a sling on the back, over shoulders to the bridge it acts as a pair of comfy braces so stops harness hanging round your knees.

Thanks Steve. The 395 is pretty thirsty anyway the noise wouldn't bother me. How much would I be looking at all in for the mods to the 395?

I have an 046 that could do with some life breathing back into it as well.

Cheers

  16. There may be some HR that actually know their arse from their elbows but I doubt it. Your solicitor or union rep will probably find so many faults in their handling of your case you end up receiving a pay out instead. Advice I was given from Police about knives and bill hooks in the van was to make sure they were locked away securely should someone break in take and use them on somebody. Good luck.

Hi Steve, oh no I'm not going to cut any metal I'm hoping you'll be doing that. The muffler mod on the 560 might be within my limits? Will the mod's to the 395 shorten it's work life and are there any draw backs/negatives?

Thanks

  18. Are there any good, competent, reliable, qualified, experienced, subcontractor groundsmen or climbers near Hersham, Surrey? An extra tipper would come in handy now and again.
  19.

Hello Spud, I am thinking of modding my 560 and 395. What can I do to get max cutting performance? I have seen some ported 395's in some big wood on YouTube they seem to pull and pull.

Cheers

    day rate

For £200 a day I provide my own bacon and Brie sarnies with Jaffa cakes to go with my thermos of espresso. That would be nice if I actually did have that but I would never have time to eat them.

    Climbing kit, saw + me=£200.
  22. I send my blades away or get new ones, watch what I put through and get about 6 months out of a set. On top of the million and one things I do I'll swallow the cost considering what they earn me.
  23. If it's tuppence you're after then zig zag. The only thing changed since mk 1 that makes sod all difference is the top attachment point. I found the SPJ ok but I am ham fisted and impatient which isn't a good combo with it. I would love to take the time and get a technique sorted with it though. Have you tried any different hitches?
  24. The injuries are presumably upper body is use of the saws on the deck included in stat's? Been hearing this for at least a decade. Never cut myself with a saw but have gone through to the bone with a Sugoi! Cotton wool jackets should be the solution. Lovely in the summer:001_cool:
