  1. Sweet!
  2. Fair enough, I'm going to take it in to the dealer on Saturday anyway to see what they reckon. Oh, and guess what happened to my starter mechanism today...
  3. Had that a couple of weeks ago. Haven't broken the pull start yet, but it's probably just a matter of time!
  4. Nice one Sam. When's the house warming party?
  5. I posted on the duplicate of this thread, but as that's going nowhere I thought I might as well add my tuppence worth here as well! I've worked with Ian, and he's a real grafter and good to have around. Despite being transportally challenged he is reliable and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him. Looks like team Arbtalk are coming up trumps again!
  6. And this is a sign by a lake near where I grew up. They've never liked keep nets!
  7. These are part a low ropes course at an adventure training place I visited a few weeks ago. I particularly like the way that the heads of the bolts are being imperceptibly pulled through the pieces of timber as the tree continues to grow. Strangely compelling!
  8. Mine's the same. I'll call my dealer tomorrow and see what he reckons. Stubby, you seem to have had every problem possible with your 560 - what's your filter like and are you still running the stock one?
  9. That's a great offer jammy!
  10. You may have read it somewhere, but it's completely untrue! http://www.parliament.uk/Templates/BriefingPapers/Pages/BPPdfDownload.aspx?bp-id=SN01844
  11. OK, I checked my pile of bumf and it looks like I was wrong - the blue alpines that I was thinking of were BCS not New Holland. Sorry!
  12. The UK distributor was at APF and I picked up some info. I'll have a look and see if I can find it!
  13. Have you tried shiply.com ? I haven't used it but know of several people who've had good results with it.

    I'm crying...

Weeping with laughter. The kids want to know what's so funny. Think I should show them?
  15. I've got a Panasonic DMC-FT3 which I take to work with me whenever I remember. It takes decent photos, but best of all it's waterproof and shockproof so I don't have to worry about breaking it! I've been meaning to post some photos, so I'll try to find a few minutes to get some up here.
  16. I've worked with Ian, and he's a real grafter and good to have around. Despite being transportally challenged he is reliable and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him. Probably useful to know that he's based in Crawley, West Sussex. Just in case you were wondering.
  17. I don't know whether it's any better than the competition, but even as a very occasional climber that video made me want to have one!
  18. Shame he forgot to pack a winch for dealing with the hung up tree then!
  19. I've had a LWB 2.5l T4 as my daily drive for a few years now and it is excellent. Driven sensibly it does 33 mpg, on a steady run, lightly loaded, it will do 40 mpg. I added cruise control for under £100 which helps. If you want seats in the back then try to get a van which had them factory fitted as I've found that a lot of insurance companies won't touch a van with after market seats (even if professionally fitted). Having said that I've got a good price from my current insurer now.
  20. I'm loving my 560 so far. It's a tree eating chip-blizzard! I did snap a chain brake band a couple of weeks ago, but my dealer (DM Chainsaws in West Sussex) sent one out to me for the next day which was great. Starting hasn't been a problem at all. I hadn't been using the decomp button as it seemed to start easier without. Having read Stubby's advice I started using it again, and it's starting as easily as my 346.

  22. Depending on how much experience you have you may be better off with something a bit less powerful for your assessment. A 346XP for instance is going to be a bit more forgiving and make you less likely to overcut your gob or hinge. I've got both and tend to pick the 560 for most jobs at the moment. I don't think I would have wanted it as a total beginner's saw though.
  23. Your best bet would be the Surrey and Sussex Coppice Group: http://coppicegroup.wordpress.com/
  24. Done. Didn't really understand the question about how I'd like things described though! I really like the TreeId and WinterTreeId apps, although I would prefer them to be combined and to include more species especially conifers. I'm much more likely to use an app than a book if they contain comparable data as I've always got my phone with me.
  25. What about a strop/lanyard? Or just climb on both ends of the rope to start?
