Probably totally not applicable, our case tractor got it wouldn't start without being primed every time. All it was is an injector leak back pipe had perished. the fuel must of all run back to the tank! I dont know this engine but I had an escort van with a failed stop solenoid in the fuel injection pump once. If you can find it and put a finger on it or a solid probe of some sort then get someone to turn ignition on but not start it, if it works you should feel a positive flick/click as the shut of plunger energises open.

Its only what I was told by someone, but the onus is on you to prove what you have been doing. For example if you do 50miles with a trailer on Monday then do 1000 miles the rest of the week and get stopped,the tacho actually records which mileage was done using it. Its your word against theirs. I personally hate it( the regs) When I truck drive if you stop after 4 1/2 ours for the 45minutes rest. You are actually worst for wear when commencing driving again IMO. Id rather go home earlier and get proper rest. Where can you park a vehicle of that size and this applies to B+E as well. Chipper and gear on back, on a rough estate need 30 min Working time directive break, you don't pop to the shops or for a walk. You work to get job done on tacho break. Which is illegal. I tend not to get involved on these subjects, just warn others, as It winds me up. Im all for safety etc. But its gone mad.

Tree is going to die bacterial canker. I've never heard of one recovering. If it have been caught on a branch and pruned out earlier maybe a chance of surviving. Sorry.

Its complicated. If you use vehicle with a trailer I think you have to use tacho all that week. but how you diffentiate leisure and work I dont know. The probably expect you to be be stinking rich and have a separate car for popping down to pub or shop:thumbdown: I never use a tacho in light goods vehicle yet as I seldom pull a trailer.

Ive just done some stalking on google maps to see the tree in its previous glory, "The pole next door" looks hideous in its freshly pruned state! However the lovely little oak tree in a pot at the garden centre will continue to be planted in a stupid place. If people actually researched or asked trusted professional opinion, Half urban tree work wouldn't exist.

I prefer files, but did use a similar grinder to this to reset teeth to same length. Now have the granberg one which is lots better as you can see what is going on in the action zone. I have ground the other links accidently before with this type. Plus when the edge tapers on these stones, you get a different angle. However good enough for a diy firewood cutter. Just pull the chain round then pull back against the stop. Dont spend all day flipping it about:confused1:

Not read the other replies but agree it it is deserved, Steve and co have made Arb a friendlier place to be with a more helpful attitude and uniting an industry that can be a jealously possesive and back stabbing one. Ive made good contacts and learned much. Thanks Steve:thumbup:

A month ago I was doing skip truck work jumped into skip with one hand on side flinging legs over top, the skip was resting on the back of the truck and dropped about 6 inches which completely threw me out of sync. Mid flight gravity seemed to tractor beam me to the floor. I intercepted the side of the skip bashed left thigh which left a 10 x 4 inch beautiful dark purple bruise, which didn't hurt that much. But my left hand took the fall on the fingertips, which still isnt right. Daft thing is I had previously thought of being careful as I knew skip was resting on the truck

As I understand it currently if you arent doing it for hire or reward. e.g carting your horses to pasture or non profitable events such as taking classic machinery to shows. You can drive even HGV on a car licence on a pre 97 aqcuired licence. Whether you can after this you need to check I have met people that drive "plant" that is HGV built equipment. Straw bale forwarders, mobile cranes, concrete pumps, mobile corn driers etc. Whilst this may have changed, i dont know. But now you have to not only pass the truck test but starting effective sept 2014, do 5 training days in every 5 years at current cost of over £100 per day plus loss of earnings if self employed. I wouldn't be doing it just to drive a mobile home. I would downrate the plated weight or do what is legally possible to avoid HGV, unless you want to drive commercially. Thats my view anyway. I do like the freedom home idea.

Surely as a recreational vehicle it could be classified out of scope. you dont want the hassle and cost of that!

How abouts a charity arbtalk event. Everyone pays £10 to have 5 swings or minutes with an axe or 5 mins with a silky. Winner gets a prize from a sponsor on here. Pay £10 for each go. It should raise millions. Or we could just predict an outcome, direction of fall. How many breaks in main trunk, height of barbers chair. etc.

I assume as most timber use, its the heartwood which is best, the sapwood is more prone to insect and fungi attack. Therefore trees grown closer together do make better heartwood to sapwood ratio as they have less lower branches to feed and just a little green at the top. If you can afford/justify using oak I would go for it. If dried enough and creosoted with the genuine stuff. You should never have to do it again. As said many times modern fencing timber is poor. 15yr would be good for current softwood thats available.

So how much would it cost in pound notes to have an apprentice for the two years? Not balancing off his work or providing equipment or your teaching time. How often do the colleges come round to see you in the workplace? And what is the duration of a visit? Only approximte answers needed.looking in to it in behalf of my nephew.

From an overall efficiency view 7miles. If you chip at source you handle less. Whilst tractor is travelling with chip more wood is being processed back in the woods. Whereas hauling cordwood. More crew will need to to and fro, which is non productive time. If you hauled it all to site then chipped, and longer distances were involved it would go in favor to chip at site.

2wd for economy in tyres, fuel,VED etc. If you are only on the road with it. 4wd for heavier trailers and going off road. Useful to have but in reality how much will you use it for that. It could be cheaper to go twice at an occasional job with smaller trailer and 9 months of the year its dry enough for going off road with most vehicles. Them are the busiest months. Most people could get away with 2wd but think they are the business with 4wd.
