  1. Mi Grandad has trouble wiv is colon. How old am I????
  2. The constant shifting tide of Euro REGS. Thanks Rog, its no wonder nobody knows what they can and cannot do. Time to scratch it all and start again.
  3. I think the training is over priced. You loose the days earnings whilst on the course. They charge a rate that should be one to one tuition. Whereas a group learn together Then you have to provide all the gear. Even the packed lunch with some trainers. Meanwhile the trainers earn thousands a week I assume, unless there is lardy layabouts to subsidise in offices DVLA style) I'd like to see what of the fees goes where. If a subby climber is earning £150 a day, how can it cost £300-£400 to teach him for 2 days? A few sheets of paper a little electric, toliet/washroom facilities, insurance. Is admin so expensive? Most of us have that down as business costs yet charge less for some days work! Including a lot more wear/tear and fuels.
  4. Geoff turned to arb after his career in TV bombed along with George, Zippy and Bungle.
  5. Thats the college attitude, same with school, you can be the best you are brilliant, many leave thinking these often real world failures are the authority on these things. (Not all lecturers/teachers I add) I was told in the early nineties you can leave college to be on £20 k. Still not happened. I had to get of Horticulture full time. By saying these "encouraging" things they are messing peoples lives up long term. Its a bit like taking on an apprentice and saying when you finish your training I'll Pay you £50k. The training would never finish!!!!!
  6. A gleditsia?
  7. We've just had a few appear out of nowhere on a reseeded paddock. At my parents just burnt it all yesterday. The leaves on ours are the same as yours. The google images for that type of Datura are more thistle like. As a hallucigenic its supposed to blow your mind away for days!

    Back leaner

Im the same calm but ponderously calculating through my available options. Its like a multi angle slideshow but can be a second or a few. Bit like choosing what to eat from a menu. It only kicks in when it has to though, the rest of my life runs in real time.
  9. Well put Rob I realise and understand what you are saying about cash flow etc. Realistically its up to the customer to use good business sense and stock up appropriately just as you have to. Why buy a bar or a chain every month and pay postage when you can stock up a few months worth and get each item at a lower postage cost in a bigger order. Its simple, you do a good service. You could be one of those aloof e-tailers that have minimum order values or quantity orders. Well put I look forward to new products
  10. Im interested in this thread. It would be good if someone who is in the know could inform us comprehensively on this or point us to a weblink etc. Im very green on this sort of thing and live in the real world of getting it done. Not theorizing. I appreciate that its a good way to learn in a recognized way and get real experience. However I find the academic system is run like an industry were the students are a bit like a crop, what im saying is, if course demand isnt suffcient in some institutions they say "Do this one instead its similar anyway. " I did a course in horticulture and we had a load of groundsmen and greenkeepers on it that were not interested at all and wasted a day a week. I want to know what apprenticeship course variations are. Forestry, Garden/landscape. Urban tree management etc. In my view its worth going to a better suited venue even if its a bit further away than a local one, that doesnt do it as well. A couple of weeks ago I was chatting to my Agric mechanic. His apprentice though a good lad did not know what distilled water was about when asked to get it after nearly 2 years apprenticeship. If I do something like this I would like to set someone up for life in a career if they want it. not take them on for cheap labour.

  13. See this and other threads. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/chainsawbars/47661-mirror-mirror-wall-who-makes-best-chainsaw-file-them-all.html
  14. I would be inclined to remove it then stick it back on at a later date. If you put ballas in and it gets in valves and plumbing at a later date it could be costly. Have you tried looking up a parts diagram. Maybe an easy way to remove it.
  15. Only thing I notice is that it maybe more viscous in the warmer weather and the saws do a little incontinence.
  16. Supertack from clarks here. Have used plantoil before its good but supertack wins on value.

  18. I did read the Whole article including- The false widow spider first came to the UK over 100 years ago in crates of fruit from the Canary Islands. It has been established in Devon for a long time but recently climate change has caused the population to spread across the south east. Sorry Rich
  19. Try putting an ad on gumtree maybe. If you localize the work to that area. someone job hunting will do it for a fee I reckon. Its a bit in strangers hands but if you posted them a cheque maybe. It is an awkward one I thought an arbtalk member would be up for it.
  20. Thanks Rich good heads up. I wont go to Devon on holiday now.
  21. :blushing:Had to look it up:confused1: I haven't got one. But cant you get them cheap as apps for phones?
  22. Not the full story. Only 1 brown mark??????
  23. If no sticker with rpm, watch a video of one working and count the paddles going up the elevator say every 20 seconds. When you get that speed remember tractor revs for future reference. Palax will run at quite low speed effectively. If its a bigger tractor above 60hp, I would run it at the higher pto gear 750 or 1000rpm but at actual 540rpm speed. Saves fuel and cuts down on noise. I have seen a 22hp compact power one of these machines. Ok in softwood but struggles with hardwood.
  24. Its good, as said burns quicker, takes a bit to dry but if you can get it at right price. Get it.
