  1. Around £600, 6 1/2 cubes a years worth for me in wood to supply hot water and room heat. But I burn my rubbish grade firewood. Which if I had to get a skip in it would cost £200 probably
  2. Sawdust from hardwoods lodges in the respiratory system of poultry and causes health problems. Could it be used for spillages in some situations? I compost mine with green stuff grass couttings etc. Would an allotment take it for mulch material? Its good for lowering soil PH for acid loving plants such as blueberries.
  3. Got to hand it to the daily mail the arborists newspaper. I found this on another websie. googled it -Rainbow eucalyptus resemble colourful works of art after shedding their bark | Mail Online
  4. I think its wise to have stock. My nearest pro dealer(who doesn't always have what I need) is 25 miles away. A waste of time if i had to go special. I have always tried to keep such consumables on stock and they do come in and make a warm glow inside of the satisfaction on being shrewd. If you have a brilliant dealer less than 5 miles away thats open bank holidays and sundays. Probably no point.

  6. Maybe get them through Ireland?
  7. Being a country boy I reckon I could relax there. Im like a wild animal in the city always looking to escape to wider spaces. We have had a few press threads on here before but not a combined one. I cannot find them but one was this.Tunnel of Love in Kleven, Ukraine | Amusing Planet Another was this. The Crooked Forest of Gryfino, Poland | Amusing Planet Another was this http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2255706/Amazing-images-bikes-left-long-trees-them.html I reckon this qualifies as well. Love a go The children who ride a 40mph zip wire a quarter of a mile high to get to school | Mail Online Ive never looked at amusing planet before! Nor do I get a paper.

  11. I paid over £60 for mine. This thread was about getting them http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/firewood-forum/35225-fiskars-wood-splitting-axe-swansea-16.html

Been ok round here, seen some bushes blathered in em.
  15. Not like this, but you do see the problems of everyone making there buck and off they go. The original land owner sold the land didnt care The builder bunged in maximum houses for maximum return. Paving gang laid pavers took their money and left. Now you have your client who doesn't want to look at new houses. And the neighbour with the extensive shading and moving hard sufaces, looks bad and leads to trip hazards. Selfish greedy and lack of foresight. Makes more problems for the world. Like the burying of rubble/rubbish on new builds. Its going to annoy someone at some point.
  16. Looking at top pic its only the heartwood not the living sapwood. You can just see a slither of heartwood in that picture. I assume its because the living wood pushes life in nutrients and water around, whereas the heartwood is static and just absorbs and decays downwards from point of entry, then anerobic activity takes over. Thats only my theory. Im just working class. A biologist may come along soon.
  17. I wouldn't be convinced of its integrity with my life on it. But for a repetitive use situation it could be a time saver.
  18. Greedy robbing scumbags. That is low IMO:thumbdown: This sort of non proffessionalism needs stamping out.
  19. Well sometimes those with these kind of jobs. believe they know it all. But expect you to be better because you read there brilliant minds. However if the consultant is a team player from a background of actually doing the job. It should be made easier. Ive only worked with one and he boiled my blood. Im not pigeon holing, and reckon all consultants on here will be pretty good as they realise learning is an ongoing game and have a genuine interest.
  20. New Zealand seems to be the common option on here. It would be interesting to here about someones Canada experience. RC0 on here and Ropeknight are in Canada I believe.
  21. Whilst something like beech would rot in a similar situation. Limes and other freely suckering/stool type trees are propagated this way. Even the american acer species are trench layered, that is buried in a trench with only a little stem tip above ground. They will send up shoots to make a new tree from the underground buds. This is obviously with juvenille growth. However stooling beds can last decades, bit like coppice and pollards. I imagine the tissue that makes new root or shoot growth is more adaptable to changing environmental factors, whether soil erosion or accumulation. But only in some tree species.
  22. Done 2 sheds and a greenhouse, no damage. Usual plant the tree in a corner 75% over everyone elses garden story.
  23. Sounds like bleeding hard work for little return to me!
  24. Another holm oak here. Quercus ilex.
  25. Im sceptical too. Because yes you will be getting more mpg and possibly more power but does it work out the same cost per mile due to the cost of the additive. Im not an expert but these products often have a cetane improver. Which does also improve cold weather starting. A friend once tried to tempt me with engine additives. I asked why would I want them? He said my engine would last longer without major rebuilds. I said the bodywork will go half way through the engines expected life, so no gain to me. I don't want to be a nitpicker to the OP, but give us some more facts to evaluate such as costings and Varty would probably appreciate a pic of xft Bianca in the fave girls thread. Thanks for sharing Pewto, dont let our negativity put you off, gems do appear and this could yet be one.
