  1. We cut a few dead elm yesterday for sales, I would rather be stockpiling for next winter though, had enough of this one.
  2. All I can say is they normally have probes on them that you stab in to the wood. But they dont give an accurate reading all the way through the timber. i.e the electric current takes the shortest route to the other pin, not to the core which is often likely to be higher moisture. Unless someone has tried this particular model and has been nerdy weighing and microwaving to dry, which is a quick method. Who knows? Sorry to be vague but this blah blah may stimulate others to correct me or add helpful comments.
  3. Im interested in doing the same with poplars I intend paying thes a visit. They are only 10 miles down the road from me. Just never get round to it. Gourmet Woodland Mushrooms - Farming, Gardening, Hobby Growing Kits, Education, Training and Information
  4. Nice to see team work around the 9 minute mark, rather than "I've done my job" the saw operator doubles as banksman. It annoys me when there is an obvious need and people ignore it. The dutch do seem to have a more gregarious team attitude. Look how they club together and carpet europe with flowers and plants.
  5. Nice to see boys that never grow up having fun. All the gear you could've done with when you were younger but couldn't afford. Anyone tried sledging behind a tractor, we have:laugh1: You dont tire out pulling either.
  6. Probably the irony of being over qualified... It will come though. When you are in work its finding the time to do courses. When you've done the courses its finding the work.
  7. That sums up a professional attitude really. Know your limits go that far. Plus you need to be commercially viable, its no shame, not everyone is a goal scorer, it needs competant teams to achieve, qualified or not. Sadly some in tree work are so competitive and inflated with ego and get narked when they see others do tree work its quite pathetic. This thread has been quite balanced and that is a good thing you find here on this forum:thumbup:
  8. "sword length!!!!!!!!!" wonder what back up is like.? Helo.... Goodbye!
  9. fasttrac dude or fasttrac eddie I think.
  10. I have city and guilds in horticulture obtained whilst I was on the youth robbery scheme. knapsack few GSCEs a class 1 HGV = C+E and a basic lantra cs30/31 equivalent. Only thing ever asked for is the drivers license for insurance records. Im of the school I have seen qualified brilliance fail often in the workplace and would personally rather work with someone who is totally unacademic and illiterate who understands the real world and gets on with it. I remember a fully qualified college boy asking my workmate. "How do you start the forklift?" "Use the Key I think" The qualified lad was the only one of us that had the ticket. The training industry is exactly that a money making enterprise, a bit like christmas and its everywhere. We do need regulating and teaching safe practice, but why does it take 3 days to teach 3 hours worth of training? costing a fortune in time and money. Rant over until someone ignites me again.
  11. Its one of those drop of at dealer things that get left in the "I will do it when I get a few in" Or "will do it when Ive got 5 minutes" Everybody seems to take forever to do the simple jobs, whereas ask a busy man it gets done. Even though he has been felling, chipping and chucking logs about all day. Its worth a few quid to the rest of us.
  12. I didnt realised they included these. I once priced up chain and bits separately, therefore cheaper then I worked it out. So that is better.
  13. Rob is it worth filling out the warranty card on these grinders and posting to the usa, or just sort it with you in the unlikely incident of a problem. As you have a sales date on each you sell? Recieved mine today thanks.
  14. On the vibrations the 576xp is really good as well, I dont have one but according to the husky vibes calculator you can use it all day long whereas the 357xp isnt good.
  15. I looked at this and when you factor in the tools to spin and break rivets and the rivets arent proportionally cheap. You need to be getting through some chain and/or fixing for others. It wasn't effective for me to do. What would be good if those who had such kit were on a directory on this forum, it could work well on a local level.
  16. Yes I do sometimes do the grass cuttings mix, have to watch out for slimy lumps. When I get going in summer, I use ash from woodburner which I save, grass cuttings from neighbour and the sweepings up from firewood sawing, shavings and dust. I can with regular turning of compost make good stuff in 6 weeks. It rots to nothing. I also see a looming pile of strawy horse manure from a neighbours kids pony. Maybe mushroom growing will be happening.Yes I do sometimes do the grass cuttings mix, have to watch out for slimy lumps. 17. I do use chip, I grade it with a sieve if needed, only problems are lack of nitrogen/ nitrogen robbery and its either wet or dry. If rotted on top as a mulch then dug it its not bad. Maybe round legumes or legumous green manures should help.
  18. Goaty

    Alder..

clogs and underwater piers, Alder lasts indefinatley when submerged.
  19. Well done we are all wiser for a shared experience.
  20. Peat takes centuries to form its ecosystem, although not pretty to look at like a meadow or forest, it has its own exclusive variety of life. Also peat bogs have sponge like water holding capabilities which is good for regulating water flow, also help out with carbon cycles etc. After milleniums of forming, man just ploughs in and bulldozes it out to make fuel and to grow your begonias in for a season. Just plain unethical. They claim to restore sites but hard to see how as the sites end up being alot lower. The way I see it plants grow everywhere sand, loam, clay etc. Whilst performing better in peat, must we have the best, also if we dont work it out now. When its gone what will we use? Commercial horticulture has been very slow. Reluctant to take the kiddie stabilisers off the bike as it were.A company called Petersfield produce a good variety of commercial peat free that is used by Kew etc.
  21. Ive been to garden centres recently, best deal for my conscience was new horizon 3 bags for £12 But even then William Sinclairs the producers have been alledgedly naughty extracting peat. No win whatever you do. However on a garden scale we can be alot more responsible than many commercial growers even though we we would like to be better:thumbup1: O and this stuff does have a whiff, it could be poultry manure maybe, which wont be from someone going around a meadow pooper scooping.
  22. :sneaky2:Just had a rescrutinize of your pics Tony, hope that is responsibly produced bags of growing media and not bought on price.
  23. Looks like part of the electrics maybe, I assume its a 346xp. Ive looked at the parts diagrams on greenstripe hereUntitled Document thats all I can see
  24. He did say "maybe" I would take that as a helpful suggestion personally, word to the wise and all that.
  25. Save face "All my saws were nicked" and turn up with the best you can find, maybe an electric Black and Decker.
