Probably the irony of being over qualified... It will come though. When you are in work its finding the time to do courses. When you've done the courses its finding the work.

That sums up a professional attitude really. Know your limits go that far. Plus you need to be commercially viable, its no shame, not everyone is a goal scorer, it needs competant teams to achieve, qualified or not. Sadly some in tree work are so competitive and inflated with ego and get narked when they see others do tree work its quite pathetic. I have city and guilds in horticulture obtained whilst I was on the youth robbery scheme. knapsack few GSCEs a class 1 HGV = C+E and a basic lantra cs30/31 equivalent. Only thing ever asked for is the drivers license for insurance records. Im of the school I have seen qualified brilliance fail often in the workplace and would personally rather work with someone who is totally unacademic and illiterate who understands the real world and gets on with it. I remember a fully qualified college boy asking my workmate. "How do you start the forklift?" "Use the Key I think" The qualified lad was the only one of us that had the ticket. The training industry is exactly that a money making enterprise, a bit like christmas and its everywhere. We do need regulating and teaching safe practice, but why does it take 3 days to teach 3 hours worth of training? costing a fortune in time and money. Rant over until someone ignites me again.

Its one of those drop of at dealer things that get left in the "I will do it when I get a few in" Or "will do it when Ive got 5 minutes" Everybody seems to take forever to do the simple jobs, whereas ask a busy man it gets done. Even though he has been felling,chipping and chucking logs about all day. Its worth a few quid to the rest of us.

I didnt realised they included these. I once priced up chain and bits separately, therefore cheaper then I worked it out. So that is better.

On the vibrations the 576xp is really good as well, I dont have one but according to the husky vibes calculator you can use it all day long whereas the 357xp isnt good.

I looked at this and when you factor in the tools to spin and break rivets and the rivets arent proportionally cheap. You need to be getting through some chain and/or fixing for others. It wasn't effective for me to do. What would be good if those who had such kit were on a directory on this forum, it could work well on a local level.

Yes I do sometimes do the grass cuttings mix, have to watch out for slimy lumps. When I get going in summer, I use ash from woodburner which I save, grass cuttings from neighbour and the sweepings up from firewood sawing, shavings and dust. I can with regular turning of compost make good stuff in 6 weeks. It rots to nothing. I also see a looming pile of strawy horse manure from a neighbours kids pony. I do use chip, I grade it with a sieve if needed, only problems are lack of nitrogen/ nitrogen robbery and its either wet or dry. If rotted on top as a mulch then dug it its not bad. Maybe round legumes or legumous green manures should help.

Peat takes centuries to form its ecosystem, although not pretty to look at like a meadow or forest, it has its own exclusive variety of life. Also peat bogs have sponge like water holding capabilities which is good for regulating water flow, also help out with carbon cycles etc. After milleniums of forming,man just ploughs in and bulldozes it out to make fuel and to grow your begonias in for a season. Just plain unethical. They claim to restore sites but hard to see how as the sites end up being alot lower. The way I see it plants grow everywhere sand, loam,clay etc. Whilst performing better in peat, must we have the best, also if we dont work it out now. When its gone what will we use? Commercial horticulture has been very slow. Reluctant to take the kiddie stabilisers off the bike as it were.A company called Petersfield produce a good variety of commercial peat free that is used by Kew etc.

Ive been to garden centres recently, best deal for my conscience was new horizon 3 bags for £12 But even then William Sinclairs the producers have been alledgedly naughty extracting peat. No win whatever you do. However on a garden scale we can be alot more responsible than many commercial growers even though we we would like to be better:thumbup1: O and this stuff does have a whiff, it could be poultry manure maybe, which wont be from someone going around a meadow pooper scooping.

Take tops out all of them for christmas trees. Then chip or log rest. Unless you can get a buyer for logs in length for raised beds etc.
