  1. For a while Hammerite were making an electrostatic type paint gun, you clamp an earth lead to the piece and the paint is attracted to it. Hammerite HAM6705020 Metal Master Spray Gun: Amazon.co.uk: Car & Motorbike WWW.AMAZON.CO.UK Hammerite HAM6705020 Metal Master Spray Gun: Amazon.co.uk: Car & Motorbike You don't see it any more, so I assume it didn't work great?
  2. Or eventually find their way onto a croft on the west coast, where they will slowly rot There's some folks still running hand start machines!
  3. Not tried the 540ixp - only the older model 535ixp. Same idea but the new one is more powerful? You can't compare it in anyway to a 50cc petrol saw. You need both, petrol and battery, there's plenty of times when I would pick up the battery saw over any petrol saw.
  4. I bet a hot pressure washer would be a handy thing to have, must cut right through grease etc? Do they use much diesel for the heat?
  5. Martyn Vantuner is a sound guy, he remapped one of my old transits
  6. The first question they asked was "where ya bin?"
  7. This will make me sound like an obnoxious know-it-all: It's not a new saw you need, it's some basic training in chainsaw use/maintenance (ie cs30/31)
  8. I've never used a stand on mower, but I imagine it would be pretty comfortable. Supposed to be better for your back than sitting down I think? I see the local council going about now with stand on mowers.
  9. Another option would be for him to put all the leaves, hedge clippings, small stuff straight on the compost. Save up all the bigger stuff and hire in a decent machine once or twice a year. Or make charcoal/bio char for the garden?
  10. Bare in mind the location, the firm is called Northern Marine Services and they really mean it - Caithness!!
  11. Human compost funerals 'better for environment' WWW.BBC.CO.UK A US firm claims the service it offers saves more than a tonne of carbon, after a pilot study. "The process involves laying the body in a closed vessel with woodchips, alfalfa and straw grass. The body is slowly rotated to allow microbes to break it down. Thirty days later the remains are available to relatives to scatter on plants or a tree." This is giving me ideas......
  12. Well, the Husqvarna 535iRX seems a good bit of kit Have only used it briefly, but I imagine it will take away a fair bit of the work normally done with petrol machines. Very nice to use, quiet and low vibe. It comes as standard with a basic (but comfortable!) harness, bump feed head, tri grass blade, and a saw tooth style clearing saw blade.
  13. Just found a good use for empty IBCs......
  14. There's no such thing as bad firewood, dry it and crack on
  15. Forgot to say, I knew the pirtek guy, and I asked if there was ever a chance of a cheap hose for cash. He was telling me that not only is the van tracked, but the hose crimper in the back is fitted with a tracker too! Even at night, they knew where he was and what he was up to
  16. Pirtek are a franchise, round here they're probably the most expensive place you can go. Obviously, this is fully fitted onsite, someone I know paid something like £300/£400. If you took the hose off yourself and into the good local hydraulic shop it was more like £10/£20 for the hose. They're not shy!
  17. I used to get loads of empty 10l adblue containers from my brothers work (they got a bulk tank in the end). They are great for dispensing diesel, especially for machines that don't take much. Just a really handy size, 2 x 10l is easier than one 20l drum. Also being clear you could see it was cherry, and the quantity. They do come with flexi nozzles but I wouldn't trust them to stay clean inside. Also cut the bottom out a 10l adblue, and it's just the right size to fit over a 30w LED floodlight, works great as a diffuser! Cuts down on the glare. And keeps the rain off the light.
  18. 3 years later..... I was reminded of this thread this week as a notification pinged up. Which was ironic as I spent a few late nights this week doing some much need modification on the "log catcher" where the splitter blade retracts in to. I had patched up the old log catcher a good few times, so it was cut off and a new one made up from 2" angle iron. There's now a length of angle iron running down either side of the cylinder. Should be much stronger Here's a couple of photos, but you can't really see much with the lighting and the shininess of the fresh paint!
  19. Here's another one that is the hen's water trough. When it freezes over just give it a boot on the sides to break the ice. Or if it's really bad, smash through the ice with a spade
  20. I've got the Stiga branded, 52cc Kawasaki engine brushcutter. I'm sure it's actually made by someone else though? And tbh I quite like it, good bit of kit for the money
  21. IMO, get the biggest mower that will fit. There's various ones in sizes like 26"-28"-30"-32" etc
  22. 25l drum tool tote This one has been in use for years! Just drill 4 holes for the rope and poke it through, then melt the rope ends into a blob
  23. And here was me thinking it might be something like "le tattie du oven"
  24. Sounds like a local wood that was a community "buy out", paid for with various grants and public money it's like a theme park now
