  1. My friend bought a 12 ton electric one 2 and a half years ago and we had to modify the stops as well but apart from that no problems whatsoever, apart from the fact it weighs a ton so is difficault to move around. It will split rings my Palax KS35 processor wont!
  2. Its a processor that makes kindling Chris.
  3. Its not that bad......although I've always thought the Merc G Wagen was a thing of beauty:001_smile:
  4. Don't see many of these around as they were not many when they were new. If I had won the lottery last week I would have bought it for my four wheel drive collection. STONEFEILD P3000 4X4 TRUCK | eBay They were made some time in the 1980s and as well as some civilian sales, they took part in MOD trials but obviously were not successful.
  5. You can stick it on ebay but I wont be buying it now Steve!
  6. Thanks for the comments guys, I'll stay clear of the 390 then (thought they looked strange with an orange handle anyway). May pop for a 340/1 or 360/1 if I can save some spondoolies.
  7. I currently have a MS260 which I mainly use for ringing up timber for firewood. When I use it on the larger stuff that is too big for the processor, 14 inches plus, it does seem to struggle a bit. I have used my friends 340 and it felt much easier. I keep looking on ebay at 390s as that would give me an extra 15cc and 1hp and wondered if any body had any views?
  8. And how many tons in an hour or day would you expect to fell?
  9. Depends how much he wants for it and how much you are prepared to pay. Going rate for hardwood is anything between £45 and £60 per ton roadside.
  10. Thats the one Chris. Definately a good bit bigger but also a good bit more expensive - £6500 plus drat! Although there are grants kicking about at the moment so should be able to get 40% towards it. as you say, getting hold of a couple of bags of product would be good to take round outlets as a sample to gauge demand.
  11. I was talking to Andy from Welmac on Friday at the Scot Plant Show in Edinburgh and there is a new machine out that will take larger diameter branches, about 6 inch I think. The video was very impressive, the machine spat out a silver birch like a machine gun spitting out bullets!! Quite tempted to buy one if I can find the right outlet for the product.
  12. Japa 600 firewood processor listed in collective sale at Sedgefield, County Durham this weekend if anyone is interested Hexham and Northern Marts | Livestock and cattle sales serving Northumberland and the north-east
  13. And with technology it gets smaller by the day! (Bit profound for 10.20pm on a Sunday night!!)
  14. I live in Chapel Park and run a firewood business from my mates premises at Shotley Field and Consett.
  15. I'll have to keep out of your way when you start driving the mog around Newcastle Chris...wouldn't want you to run over my Ranger!!
  16. Unless you need to carry passengers I would look at the Ranger Super Cab - the small rear door opens suicide style to allow very easy access to the rear which is large enough for kit, bait bag, etc and you get a larger pick up buck than the double cab.
  17. Is it not a Unimog of some description?
  18. I attended a course recently about joining the HETAS scheme and most of it related to wood chip and pellet. The log part could have been done in about half and hour but I don't think it is worth joining unless you are one of the big national players. I think were the focus should be with logs is on a standard volume - this would be much more benficial to the consumer rather than buying by the load/truck/net/dumpy bag/ton/etc etc.
  19. In the past I have used Autoservice at Stanley and Cheviot 4x4 at North Shields for service and repair work. I know Cheviot have built vehicles to people spec before so might be worth giving either a call. My pal uses Nigel Price at Fourstones near Hexham and rates them.
  20. That was a good find Sam. I am sure SVO actually produced 150 inch chassis, they waited until they had orders from the utilities for a dozen and then made a batch so it should be a genuine 150 inch wheelbase. Probably quite rare as well.
  21. Have a look at Riko UK :: Commercial My friend bought one over two years ago and we use it regularly for splitting rings for firewood. I think he has a 12 ton model and they are extremely well made, very solid and everything is at a comfortable working height. The only downside is it weighs an absolute ton so even just to pull it back over so you can wheel it takes a monumental effort. He got the electric version by the way and it has been 100% reliable and far outstrips anything else we have seen when we have been at shows.
  22. he reckons 5 ton hardwood a month.. he has a big draughty old farm house... Is that right Nick? Would oil or gas not be cheaper as the cost price of 5 ton of hardwood delivered has to be at least £250 before you even begin to split it to correct size?
  23. Does carrying the Citroen on the front not offset the Jensen on the back?
  24. I would hazzard a guess that most of the new Defenders sold over the last few years have been to people like him. They became very trendy (and expensive) even to the point where you see mummys driving them to school and I doubt any of them would know what a difflock is!! I would also say the vast majority of Land Rovers sold never get used for what they were built for, off road wise, hence the 2 wheel drive Freelanders and Evoques.
  25. I ran a set on my Series 2A SWB pick up for a year or so and competed in trials regularly as well play days and I always said the only thing that got the truck stuck was me! It would go anywhere on those tyres. When I got my first 90 I put them on that but after a few hairy moments on wet roads at roundabouts I decided they had to go and replaced them with Michelin XCLs.
