    Dead fish

One of our jobs from yesterday's wind was a large red chestnut that fell over a pond, after removal there were a lot of bubbles/foam on the pond and the fish were dying/dead (orfe and goldfish mainly not sure if the koi survived). We used veg cooking oil as chain lube as that was to hand, so looking for an explanation on the fish and foam could it be tannin??
  3. Not arbutus unedo or Quercus ilex but this phillyrea looks good, I made the school boy error of not noticing if the leaves were opposite though.
  4. The leafs a bit ceonothus like but don't think so, Looking at the pics again now privet comes to mind as they've caught me out before but not sure.
  5. Osmanthus of some sort

Don't know your area so don't know who to try but my tactic is to look at online prices, find the cheapest (usually fr jones and honey bros) and quote it to my local dealer who normally beats it. Even though they can't sell by mail order they still list the shop prices and this can give you a bit of leverage, I'd try and find your nearest arb supplier and see what they do. We have a 261 btw and it's not gone wrong yet but it always sounds like it's going to

I'd advise you to shop around, our local Ernest doe isn't the best place to get trade prices.
  8. We got some recently from landmark trading, always good service with next day delivery and you get a bar of chocolate.
  9. Does it ? Ive known two that have literally exploded after a lightning strike and I think the one at merrist wood losing its top was blamed on lightning.
  10. I was up close to a coast last week and was very surprised at the spongy bark on that.
  11. Cant believe no ones mentioned Metasequoia glyptostroboides yet.
  12. To the untrained eye the best feature of a mature wellingtonia are the droopy branches that look a pain to get your rope over, the spongy bark can also be a give away but this also occurs on the coast redwood where the needles are more yew like. Hope this helps (and makes sense)
  13. Certainly looks like it. Burns too well to save for the turners though.
  14. Invisible fly then.
  15. That don't help me much, can't even copy and paste on the phone Ha changed after I wrote that
  16. I've had a little google myself and had not a lot of luck, still think eggs though sure I've seen something similar, some type of fly I reckon
  17. Gonna have a wild stab in the dark here but something in my brain says they're eggs.
  18. Still in one on the rare occasion I get my bum up a tree, never feel that comfy with leg loop harness and like the way the Willans stops my legs moving to far apart which hurts the old hips.
  19. I was strongly advised at college not to use the side d's for tools as the stitching is designed to take the weight pulling forward not down as the weight is distributed over all the stitching rather than just the top stitch. May not apply to all harnesses mind.
  20. Buds on the lower crown looked anything but fat and sticky when I saw it about two weeks ago I'm afraid
  21. Saved this little fella out of a mahoosive pyracantha stump last week
  22. Its one I stumble across every now and then but have never looked it up, not that uncommon domestically, someone must know.
  23. Bit hard to tell but is it one of these
  24. Our extractor in the kitchen used to suck next doors smoke down our chimney before our stove went in.
  25. Sounds a lot to me, some one told me they should average out at £400 ish per window but that was prob getting on for a decade ago. Think I paid £2.5k for 6 windows in our last flat
