  7. At 14 my school decided to try get rid of the naughty ones 2 days a week at work exp or college. My college course was useless so worked for 2 days unpaid and paid at weekends. Pretty much was dragging, chipping, raking got to put the odd pull line up trees but it stood me in good stead.just don't expect to much til you've proved yourself age and experience will come into things alot. As may insurance ? I then went on to do an apprenticeship with the firm then a full time job after that with firm. Ring around local firms and ask for weekend work presuming your still at school Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

  11. Surely everyone's used a motor to pull sticks over? I used ladders just strop onto tree and even one did a bizarre job at the top of scaffolding... As someone said a 70 something year old retired blokes 80ft could be a 20ft tree to a pro...
  12. Me and my missus are moving out soon and the costs genuinely scare me!I think I've I was self employed I think 100 a day would be a real struggle for me to get by on! Ok I live in the south east which is pricey but even still the cost of living is to high to be able to earn less. Your in a saturated market in afraid but if your good or have some promise you'll get the work and monney elsewhere. I agree with you about the asda thing I think it's ridiculous when people say that! Put your prices up or walk when you get some more work!
  13. Get some ply wood to rest on the tunnel incase of a slip a tarp won't do alot of protection really
  14. I stayed in a travelodge last weekend the old moorgate now city road was pretty good and fairly cheap if you book it far in advance 50 quid a night I think... Does depend on if you want cheap and cheerful though... Sorry just saw you didn't want cheap as travelodge a go it was pretty good new modern etc
  15. Cool stuff josh was pretty funny to see tree start standing up right again!
  16. Yes you still have to learn the 3 knot system or I did in mine a couple years back until fairly recently I worked with a couple of guys who still climbed that way! The hicth climber is as "new school" as ill go can't be dealing with srt or mechanical stuff one coz I'm to tight and two coz if it ain't broke don't fix it!
  17. Employers and employees can opt out of the 37 hour a week scheme I know because I just agreed to it...
  18. Yeah I though line up was pretty bad I'm sure in the last 6 years or so I've been into music festivals that downloads allway seems exactly the same? Like those headliners have all been there in last 3 years?
  19. Man up! It's not bullying Tom its people's opinion and it really isn't a nice looking tree now. Not saying we don't do it I've left trees looking bad coz of spec but I don't take pictures and say I think it looks good I just get paid to do it. If you can't take criticism don't post pictures on arbtalk then moan that arbtalk isn't a good place because people share an opinion on your photos! Well done on the contract!
  20. I Remember saying to a guy In the shop " bet everyone moans about stretch air zips" he replied " no no one ever complains" Thanks for proving its not just me!
  21. Obviously make the call but ask your boss first if it has anything stopping you felling it! If he says no there isn't at least you know where you stand if you find out different!!
  22. I've never got why colleges still teach it... Or they did 2 years ish ago when I did mine you could also have a second length of rope so 10 m to give you more positioning if you really need it that gets rid off the big loop in your line to stop the snagging but your harness will be a bit cluttered....
