  1. capel a college? sounds good mate is that just in arb or all industries?
  2. When did anit vib mounts come on to saws then?
  3. weve got an ancient hand held i forget the name but its about 15 years old and it is comin to its day and weve also got the bg what ever number the backpck one and thats pretty grand thats about 6 years maybe its had a coupole of problems but stihl do aa petty good blower
  4. if its 30 quid mate go for the biggen I think youll only regret it. Have not tried husky ones so cant realy comment compared to stihl echo also do blowers and they look quite tidy.
  5. This is what I cant understand when my Boss is down the woods with us I'm pretty sure he said you should be cuttin a ton a day! So I asked how much was in our quite smal pile at the end of the first day he said about a third of a ton!. Now I'm only now getting the hang of felling/sneddig etc and still have no tickets (thanks plumpton college!). So I have not much of an idea about wieght hes got an old book of price of timber as most fellers have he says, but it was published in 1982! We share a yard with a bloke that we sub contract big oaks to and he makes a mint he also does most other kinds of wood but it shows how easy it is with a harvester an still the price of wood is ridiculously cheap.
  6. well done matey. I started 2 weeks back its geat annoying all the proper drivers by stalling it at trafic lights as I found out saturday :
  7. Thats odd collage provide everything but boots and glooves. what college you from? Ive got acheap pair of haix which I think ae about 100-110? But for me they are fine not had a problem at all just try around walkaround in the shop for a while there not a cheap thing (like most things in this trade) and you wear them all the time. Not sure if timberland do anything else but glooves havent seen them doing other ppe could be wrong.
  8. as said above timberland glooves are quite good but my pair got mangled during a wet spell but generally there not to bad, as im coming up to my cs30 I thught I would get into the habbit and bought some husky gloves and there very good best by far and should be for 26 quid !!! In my opinion most chainsaw glooves are more of a hazards than PPE
  9. very nice. I always think willow should just be pollarded. One of the worse jobs I hav ever been on was a willow a bit bigger than the one in the picture with the longest tallest horrible rose going through it, the drag was abot 50-60 foot up a steep incline and we had our old JO BEAU garden chipper thanks to the members of the caravan club. very nice job though especially for a new climber.
  10. I saw a similar occurance on my wy somewere at work. ladders up a conifur/back handled saw/no helmet/ top of conifur chuckd on truck/ working quite near a powerline/ on quite a busy road no signs yellow jackets etc But the truck was signwriten so it was legitimate:D
  11. Was going to ask what peole thought of the Echo. German? Sweedish? I cant remeber.
  12. I started a year and half maybe 2 years ago doing work experience once a week completely free, saturday and holidays for 20 quid. And of corse I did the dragging the rakeing the fueling etc etc and all the while hopin there was future employment and then I found an apprentership corse he was interested and decided to take me on but im still on 25 quid a day cs30 in a months time and until then I doubt I could get anymore money. When I started full time in June until about a week or 2 ago I was pissing my monney away like mad then relised this is going to be an exspencie year- starting driving lessons/insurance eventualy car tax- got to get my climbing kit and Since my first post on here I relised I had to stay in on the weekend work on the weekend etc. Your lucky in my opinion 40 a day int bad one bit my not very experinced advice is to save a much because Ive relised how much I wish I had saved in the last 6 months. good luck.
  13. Love the outdoors and climbing trees and using meaty chainsaws is what almost every kid would of love to of done. It realy isnt for the monney I get paid quite badly for being an apprentice but I see it asthe monney will get better and the amount of prospects I think it can open is great. I couldnt do any othr trade now.
  14. Looking as awful as ever realy the customer and others around have said its been put on hold because of a row with contractors (realy realy glad im not them) all the scaafolding is still up and as regard to the footpath I have no idea dont think its any where near the woods we are in.
  15. Sorry I no you posted this yonks ago but is tat the one near Uckfield? We are working in the woods exactley next door to to his what a wierd house anda crazy man.
  16. Our firm is made of 3 employes one of them me as apprentice and 3-4 subbies and have had other ecent subbies who only worked for us but once a wenicallityuk for another firm its all about techinicaillities and loopholes etc. Ive allways said that when the day comes when I star geting my own workas a subbie to just Have one bloke as a subbie and thats it as much as an employee I love paid holidays bank holidays sick pay security and all the other benifits I would hate to be and emplyoer and especially an employe who does Feeling for firewood just to cover wet days and wages it must be a pain in the gonads to say the least
  17. is that for both 30 and 31? If so that seems incredibly cheap generally the going rate down here in kent is 800ish. IM doing some apprentership scheme soget inefor free but how collages love to mess yu around
  18.
