  1. I feel confident on my 31 well I say confident I feel I will be a little more relaxed on 31. Ive ben useing a saw for a while under suprvision and been felling trees for 6 monthsish or so. Can you not get in any practice maybe not out in woods but just practice your cuts on a high stump or somthing similar. Good luck on your 31.
  2. Yeah as someone above said revise everthign Keep getting someone to sk yu all the questionsand obiously just practiceon the saw as much as ossible. I was quite cofident on sharpening and done it quite well and didnt ask to much questions on the chain components. Revise revise revise is al you can do. Good luck
  3. Can I reccomend you keeping an eye on Arb jobs a website advertiseing arbjobs maybe your best bet. Arbjobs.com - Tree Jobs! - Home
  4. :confused1: Didnt see anything like this in new catalouge.
  5. Cheers Ay of course doing apprentership and its all involved free of charge to think it will be around June or so time.
  6. I do love big oaks look amazing trees But I may have to go with beechs I love there big arses and horizontal branches dont no why but always been a fan of beeches and big arses for that matter:001_tt2:
  7. It depends what carreer you want weather it be arb/forestry/consulataiion the list could go on. Ive heard that some people doing higher education in our industry mat end up behind a desk rather than in the thick of it. make of that what you will if you want that then dont worry but like I said if you want to do tree surgery/forestry day in day out then go for that.
  8. Passed it with no worries, assesor was a realy good guy put us all at ease. Was a right mess last night then woke up this morning with a stinking cold. 31 comes monday and I feel slightly more comfortable with that.
  9. Nice on thanks alot again. I mist go now revise for the big cs 30 tommorow. abserloutley cacking it
  10. You might but others might not, I know you are in the technical right here im just trying to point it out from less expeirenced lads views here
  11. Thanks to Nick im in if thats ok plippy. Would it be ok for someone to show me the ropes (excuse the pun) on the day?
  12. Royal oak? used to be the snail I think. Pretty sure it is royal oak is this the place to get picked up...?
  13. With respect sir less experienced lad( I include myself in this bracket) would do as there told because work is going to be hard to find for them if they kick up a fuss there not going to be argueing about health and saftey. I do agree this isnt safe working practice im just pointing my opinion on your bit of less experienced lads.
  14. Cant your girlsfriends sister just have a party in the woods? lots of men there and its alot more fun than pass the parcel.
  15. Does anybody drive through hawkhurst on the way there or any of surrounding villages? Will be great if I could cacth a lift with some. Cheers.
  16. I think because alder grows next to river/streams/wet stuff its got more moisture than most wood so takes longer to dry out. Think that is correct. Ive found seasoned alder great wood.
  17. Toridge 2 mins away and easy to get to on train and tunbridge wells is about twty mins and a bugger to get to. Plippy whats your views on a novice? ( not tickets some experience) reckon anyone will be able to look after us as it were? If its a problem no worries can understand H&S stuff just dont get to climb on jobs much ether.
  18. Sorry only just read this properly. The apprentership I'm doing whcih maybe different to were you are im not sure. I go to college once a fortnight and obviously when you do your tickets you do the normal days of trainng as you normally would. The tickets I'm gaining is 30/31/38/39 Pa1/pa6(chemcal spraying) the minimum wage is 95 quid a week and maximum is 200 qud a week but the latter is obviusly down to the discretion of the employer. Home - Opening doors to a better future for anything ive missed.
  19. Appretership idefinatley the way forward especially if you have experience. I started right atthe bottom once a weeek work experience when I was at school worked weekends holidays etc the got apprentership, its basically a 10 week corse strectchedover a year mybe 2 if you dont do the work. You learn the job, the day to day life of a hairy arse tree boy and get monney aswell its win win good luck
  20. think im ging down the same lines as you harness wise I tried on a skylotech and felt realy comortable. But its each to there own Everyone reccomeneded me a harness that this bloke had and said it was comfortable and that and tried the blokes on and I hated it. take what you feel comfortable in. As for climbing kit ill relay the message from here and other tree guys is not to be tigh on monney with your kit as youll only end up buying twice. Got my first kit last month ish and got 37m of line, 10m line, 4 karabiners, petzl tin, flip line,3 prusik loops. No were near you so cant help with the climb
  21. Well done mate. just doing my training for 30/31. Much much more confident on my felling than maintance/cross cutting. glad youve passed.
  22. The par of the road they are planning to do is a nightmare and as someone said it needs doing its awful. Having heard about a pipeline workliterally just down road from there and all the hassle the newts and stuff causd it wouldnt supried me if plans changed and the woodland is saved. One thing someone once said that for every tree you fell/dismantle whatever you replan three and most of the time the figures work out. An Arbtalk protest meet would be more intresting than a climbing met surely.
  23. Nice on have always thought its a great idea to have genuine people writting about what they thought of your work.
  24. If you dont get em into at that sort of age then they may drink the lager.
  25. Plenty of people have had log arbhistory without cuts and others havent doesnt make you more man because youve made a mistake witha saw or more of an arborist either. Most if not all accidents happen because of operator error, 020 in your hand = should have used saw in 2 hands, kckback= dont use nose its simple realy. I feel sorry for anyone were there error isnt because of there skills or whatever. I have some respect for you scott for posting and admiting your mistake.
