  1. All excellent advice! i was just thinking about the hourly rate over how much i would split, as i cant help but always work as hard as i can and be efficient, which would mean finishing quite fast and little pay
  2. thanks for the help, have a good idea of what to charge now
  3. It would be me using my own log splitter
  4. Could anyone give me an idea of how much money to charge for splitting already ringed up logs for the day? id be using a log splitter of course thanks!
  5. Thanks alot mate its really helped! and same with all the other advice, at the end of the day it comes down to what i want to do best i suppose! no point having a miserable job just to say i have a degree!
  6. yeah, very usefull advice this! i mean id love to have it on paper saying i have a degree in forestry and woodland managment, but if i dont enjoy any of it then it doesnt make sense to try make a career out of it? this is my argument anyway. its easy to say yeah ill stay two more years and get the degree, but i might not get it in 2 years as i may fail a year, also the silly amount of debt im building up at uni doesnt seem like its going to be worth it overall
  7. Hmm this is such a tough choice!! As i dont see myself in that position anyway in the future, but who can tell what the future holds?
  8. wow nice one, would you say that with the degree you now have a better choice of jobs? i stuggle to see the types of jobs that become avalible, in my head the only jobs it opens up are office jobs?
  9. cheers for all the comments, i am at Newton Rigg, i dont particually like the teaching there either i find it very dull and hard to learn from. to those of you who have finished your degree or are coming close, are you glad you have done it?
  10. cheers for the advice. i already have my 2 years of college and a few years of tree surgeon work with several companys in which i still work for in my free time. but i do agree that if i dont enjoy the degree there is no need to try force myself through it as im not one to end up working in an office!
  11. Hi all, Ive been at university now for almost 1 year, studying Forestry and Woodland Management, the course runs for 3 years. I love tree sugery and forestry and thought would be a good idea to get a university degree under my belt along with my college qualifications. However, i havent enjoyed any of my first year, struggle with all the work and have faild a few assignments. i much prefer just being at home and earing money instead of building up all this debt for a degree i may not enjoy or feel it being worthwhile. Im thinking of quitting if i complete this first year or just stuggle through 2 more years which i dont like the sound of. Any advice on this matter would help me out alot! cheers
  12. I have just completed my first year of Arboriculture and Forestry at Capel Manor College and now need to do my work placement. I have been looking around and i am finding it hard to find a company that is willing to take anyone on at the moment. I have my CS30 and CS38, have worked in landscape gardening for a couple of years and any further arboricultural experience will be valuble. Can anyone help? Thanks Michael Ricketts
