  1. One good thing you have on you side is youth. We often get guys from your situation with more years under their belts who could struggle to get up to speed quick enough especially if they want to climb. Like the other have said there are some good training companies about and your forces funding should help with this as it can work out costly. It's competitive and it hard work but you'll be used to that. Good luck
  2. You could tree M Large they have some new shear heads that they may demo or hire in with an operative.
  3. Fair enough, lets face it, he is 50% less likely than most people to cut an arm or leg with it so that makes him immediately safer than most?
  4. That lane way has changed a bit in the last few months, very nice surface. Is that the one that looked like a muddy track a while ago?
  5. So you won't be coming over to the Woodshow then? I'd have got the first few in the gets things going
  6. I agree but my local dealer is more than happy to work on whatever I drop in to him no matter where I bought it or what brand it is. The margin on a new saw is probably a lot less than the potential to make on years of servicing and parts and he realizes this - a good business decision on their side and a good service for ourselves - everyone is happy.
  7. Looking forward to a bit of tyre kicking!
  8. Fine trees and a fresh landscape
  9. Unless specified otherwise, we'd form a wooden triangle over the rootball, and then form a plain wire triangle over the wooden one attach to 3" machine rounded posts and drive them into the ground to tension the wire. Works a treat. We,ve used various bought ground anchor kits but the above system works perfectly if the ground conditions are normal and cost about 1/10th of the other.
  10. Thanks the new chip truck is working out great. In the chipper manual is says " Then turn the disc around until the blade is next to the anvil and wind down the blade adjustment bolts until the blade is 1-2mm away from the anvil. Next tighten the blade support bolts and adjustment locking nuts. When all the bolts are locked up, re-check the gap between the blade and the anvil. When fitting new blades, ensure that all grease and oil is removed" The torque setting for the blade support bolts is 250Nm/185ft/lb We get ours sharpened at Woodsaw at the bottom of the Crumlin Road - he charges a tenner. If you want a copy of the manual let me know and I can photocopy it.
  11. As above. The etesia atilia is a cracking rough cutter. We,ve the 85 model, it will chop thru bramble, long grass, bracken with ease.
  12. I,ll check the manual in the office. it,s the thickness of a piece of thin flat bar we keep specially as a spacer guide. Somewhere between 1-2mm, but I,ll check. And the torque setting I,ll check, I know I,d to get a new torque wrench as our old one didn't go high enough.
  13. We planted and have been looking after a group of 96 Quercus palustris. Planted size 30-35, in about 15 years now. All planted in 2 x 2 x3m deep tree pits, all the same soil source and after care. The difference is amazing in bud burst but especially leaf fall - around 4-5 weeks. Must be genetic variation?
  14. Nice set up. What horse power is the Kubota and what spec is the trailer and crane?
  15. Terribly sad news. A close family member, work mate and a best friend in one. My thoughts are with you and your family.
  16. Ignore the negative comments and keep posting. I surf arbtalk to read and view stuff like your posts, not the posters who are critics.
  17. So do you crack open the whiskey and head into the workshop or do the work on the Mega and then have a whiskey. 10 out of 10 for sticking at it.
  18. This will be worth seeing - there can't be many opportunities to get timber like this moved and positioned for carving.
  19. Same here had two 2710's which while strong didn't like staying connected with the van hands free kit an the second one wouldn't connect to my email account. Have the upgraded to a Samsung GT-C3550 and it going good. Got a pack of the screen guard membranes for it as my screens always get blurry with grit/sand in my pockets. It survives the calmly conditions of my shirt top pockets on sweaty climbing days - extreme high humidity conditions. It's been dropped, soaked, etc and is still running. Not big money of Amazon and the battery life........................up to 5-6 days in normal use. I'd like to see your iphone types doing that! Oh and it has a great little torch on top corner, very handy. Nearly forgot, sound quality good and reception good.
  20. Tanglefoot or old speckled hen
  21. I,m not sure about the law aspect specifically but I know most of the Southern colleges, ESB Coillte and a lot of the southern contractors use the NPTC city and guilds land based services CS unit assessments to satisfy the HSA requirements. I only know this because many of our assessors when we ran a NPTC assessment centre in the north assessed operatives working for the above organisations. 22. Thanks. Just fitted the Arbtalk Raffle Tipmaster light guards last week:biggrin:
  23. It came along on a little single axle trailer. We do have ramps for the back of this truck which are around 10ft ali. Thinking of getting a little hand winch like the ones you see on boat trailers to pull it up for ease (lazyness) We only ever offer to grind down between 150-200mm with this machine
  24. Just done two 4ft macrocarpa stumps on Monday with our one. Brilliant little machine.
