  1. A friend sent this through earlier. Who said real men don't use ladders!
  2. Yes, another classic. Just because they have off road tyres on them doesn't mean they can go off road.
  3. I,m also liking this one. Not because of the telehandler on its side (lets face it machines sometimes just fall over:blushing:) but because it took 2 mobile 40t cranes to lift it back onto its feet. Now that was an expensive recovery!
  4. Just goes to show how good racket straps are - everything else either failed or bent.
  5. Just searching through a local machine hire Companies website - good to see they have a sense of humour. They have a section showing their machines in compromising positions! I give you this one for starters, the rest are on CP Hire home page under "oops" CP Hire Ltd. Foremost in Plant Hire !! I guess there's a good lesson to be learnt in all of them.
  6. Sorry, but anything to do with internal investigations just makes my eyes water:scared1:
  7. Ditto. If you want another you,d better get it soon, they,ve started the 461 production and we all know what happens when stihl add "1" to any of their saws. It,s enough to make me consider moving to the other side!
  8. Handy bit of kit. I,m between a compact tractor flail arm and a rear mounted flail at the moment. Trying to see if a can get away with just a flail arm, than I can batter a few hedges as well as grass areas. Onlyr thing is I don't know if I could drive a flail arm - it's seems like you need 3 arms and 2 sets of eyes to use them properly. Thanks for that.
  9. Nice and tidy. What type of mower/flail is that you're using on the compact tractor?
  10. I guess if you take it to the extreme and someone was injured the hse would be on you case for "not having a safe system of work" so I guess the buck stops with the operative and the employer. . If it,s any consolation we broke a laminated plate glass panel last season that cost us £660 plus vat because we didn't check every inch of an eight acre lawn beside it:thumbdown: Avoidable accident or hazards of the job?
  11. Thanks for the update. Amazingly warm up until now, nice to see a bit of cold dry weather even if it is only for a short while.
  12. I think that's a good and fair contract the guys on. 6.4 week hol paid and another sick week paid. Total paid time off = 7.4 week - leaving 44.6 week productive max. £325 x 52 = 16900 a year divided by 44.6 productive weeks give £378.92 a week divided by 40 hrs means £9.47 an hour cost or £75.76 a day gross and he's getting training and etc.
  13. Bridge Coachworks in Banbridge or Norman at Houston Coach Works in Kells, Ballymena. Houston Coach works are probably cheaper but they're a bit further up country.
  14. You're doing the right thing Hodge. We've been vat reg'd for 20 years now, incorporated/Ltd for 15 and employing PAYE for 21 years. Either get your accountant or payrol bureau to do the wages paper work or get a accounting package. The returns will mostly have to be done online shortly even for smaller businesses. You may have to revisit your costs and plan abit further ahead. When you are setting up your contract of employment ensure you get it checked out properly. We use the Labour Relation Agency service for which there is no charge overhere. You'll have a bit of setting up to do, insurance, contract, Paye etc to sort but once you've got it done when you employ the next person it's sitting there. You can get free advice from various agencies and trade associations. A probably on here. Go for it, it's the best way to grow your business and profitability long term.
  15. Never a truer word has been spoken. If you read last months FCA magazine you'll see HMRC are targeting the Forestry sector as we speak. And they are quite concerned at it's lack of regard for PAYE NIC and so on. They've already met with several stake holders, called some meetings and carried out a few prelim investigations and they're not happy chappies about this sector.
  16. The photo they've used is a bit unlikely when they are talking about temperatures dropping by 10 degrees from their current 13 degrees - by my maths that's still 3 degrees above - not quite the next ice age. That said I'll be pushing this story to all my log customers irrespective.
  17. This is a handy one to have in the van. Fungi on Trees ? An Arborists? Field Guide
  18. Chill guys, it,s all for a good cause remember:001_smile:
  19. I,ve been looking at some of our maintenance sites - we could be cutting grass again this month if it doesn't cool down again. We sowed out 2500m2 just before Christmas and I reckon I can see green sprouts already! Just incase it doesn't kick in we have some BAR 50 SOS which will germinate down to 3degrees:001_smile:
  20. Ah, just been sharpening the 201 - it's got a 14" bar on it at the moment. That might explain why its a bit sluggish
  21. I,ve had a rear handled one now for about a year. When the 12" bar on it needs replacing I,ll be putting a 10" bar on it. It,s ok with the 12" one for occasional full depth cutting but you need to be patient! I reckon the 10" bar would be a better match for it. So to answer your question I,d not recommend it with a 10" bar.
  22. Just my opinion and one shared by many others on this thread. This was a high risk operation carried out in a manor that carried a higher level of risk than other methods would have incurred. I,m with the Scotspine school of risk management. Nothing to do with nanny state or anything else in that vain.
  23. Ah, the old back window wipe out! We've smashed two this year and finished with a bill for a piece of tempered, laminated glass on the Titanic slipways which we broke with a stone from a grass cutting machine. £660 plus vat Aaaaaaah! Could have been worse - it could have been a tourist:blushing: Keep up the good work:thumbup1:
  24. Not good. Hope you can salvage something.
