  1. i know so much about electrics i could write on back of a stamp with soooooo much space to fill left. so wont try there, however i do run a fairly good splitter off a honda gx engine came in around £600, i get at least 7 hrs full throttle running to a tank full of petrol, about a gallon. i use all over place, either tow behind landy or stick splitter on trailer for trip and all i need is gallon of petrol for day. may be worth looking into engine option, cant recommend anyone other than buxtons highly enough, 2 branches as far as i know, one scotland and one england, i dealt with england one. storeman was great!
  2. its a little improved, work now gives us the time off, where as we used to have to book a half days annual leave for it. we do pay out of our own pocket still for meal etc. used to go onto the small hrs, held on a fri nite. now its a mon so we all work tues. just progress i guess.
  3. my old disco in a forest track, slid down from top of track to where it is. what pic doesnt show clearly is the waist depth ditch the rear passenger wheel is in and soo close to rest of landy following it.
  4. our local british legion for a lunch, maybe a beer. work has come down hard on alcohol policy and since we technically out as a work party nobody wants to see where line is.
  5. cheers silky, i had a tiny touch of it last week and thought yay i got lucky and escaped it, then other half came home and wasnt best impressed as she has it now, she still rough, i woke up tues ill and thought oh bugger.... not normally one for feeling the cold but omg went out with dog and nearly froze, then by night the sweats hit, they are worse for sure. sounds like you had a real nasty dose, nooooo thanks to 3 weeks, hope you recovered now!
  6. beef olives with all veg mixed in, stick on stove for 8hrs to simmer, its great
  7. got wood stove roaring away here, it hasnt been out in over 2 months now. cant stand this damp cold weather so its heaven to come home to nice warm house. shut it down for first evening in ages tonight much to other halfs annoyance, sweats due to man flu....
  8. all mowers i used over last 15 years get same treatment, washed out underside after every use and put in dry well aired shed so they at least drip dry. come end of season i make sure washed out, run for a good while in dry shed with blades spinning to really air off, stuck away for a week to ensure truly dry. full service and any repairs done, underside waxoiled. top side sprayed with light oil to protect in storage.
  9. i must look out pics of my old 200tdi disco stuck in woods, including round 40 mile trip for a hand winch with a friend and recovery it took 3 hrs - i ordered a winch setup from david bowyer that evening, never again!
  10. i dont i am afraid, but a chat with a local dealer will help. if you havent got a local dealer let me know i and will add some numbers for ones i know up here. for cornish wood burner
  11. i got a couple loads conifer off an arbtalk member for free couple years ago, beers were offered! instead he put me in touch with a local guy who had tractor and timber trailer to haul the 16 tons or so back here for a fee. so i gladly paid his price in cash cause too much to go ring up and haul back here myself. was i happy for all that conifer - ooooooohhhhh yeah!!!! i will never understand folks who wont take conifer!
  12. not sure of the model but we had on demo a ride on john deere ride on, diesel, hydrostatic, good tip action. 4 wheel drive. was amazing for mowing and hoovering up leaf off tar roads etc. hopefully we buy one in spring cause it was great on our slopes, well beyond what manual says you should do, easily 40 degree slopes we went along sideways, i was scared but it felt solid.
  13. our fs480 runs 4 lines happily. spends all its time running 4 line head with the heavy oregon jet cut serrated stuff.
  14. i would always do strainers first, get them well in and stayed so all secure. then run top and bottom plain wires whole length, get tensioned up a bit to show line for posts (dont know if a straight run or any turns but this will show you, may need to add a turner post if not straight at this time), knock all posts in using wires as a guide. staple plain wires to posts, remembering not to drive staples in too tight, allow wire to move freely, tension plain wires fully. do stock net.
  15. i would start with ensuring work lights are led, i have some 16 led units on back of my 90 and they are great, used to have 55w halogens and the led units win hands down, both in terms of nicer light and soooo much kinder on battery. i would see if ranger could be fixed up with second battery and split charge system before fitting work lights, means no flat starting battery and no need to run engine to have work lights on, means no keys in ignition so less theft issue also.
  16. i would be going mad if people treated my kit like that. I broke a tractor door this year, strimmer put a stone through it - i was gutted and felt sooo bad, boss could see it and no more said. its going to bug me for long time. so hammering a machine like that i would expect to be fired!
  17. Dont buy a 555, we have one and its never quite seemed right. Something around the 560 could be good, lots of folks on here run them so you will get plenty of ideas. Dont know if you can still get a 357, guessing not sadly. Arbtrader on here good place to sell a 372. or could make money on ebay but i would try to avoid it. 372 is a lovely saw, if i didnt already have one i would be interested.
  18. home sucks, had mine done years ago. Thankfully kids so no real invasion, cd's beer from fridge, some cash etc did make me a lil more paranoid for a while but then i came to conclusion that if i got stressed and unhappy they won. so improved security a bit (they put brick through window so hard to stop), upped insurance and moved on. having said that if i had caught them it wouldnt be so forgiving, cops gave me a fair lecture on "checking" house with a big hammer in my hands....
  19. depends on site size but i do a serious amount of strimming/brush cutting yearly and really rate the stihl fs480 with either jet cut head and 4mm line or a blade. may take a day or three but its methodical and leaves a presentable result. current area i am on is 2 days solid and maybe an hr or two tommorow, 8 more areas to go then done for year so maybe 2 weeks yet on strimmer.
  20. if i were an awful lot closer i would buy that lot, my splitter would eat it up no bother. good looking timber
  21. i was getting pretty much all the symptoms of white finger last year and i do spend a lot of time on tools in one form or another. Work doc was ready to sign me off tool use for a year - just to cover their ass as no tool use - no job for me! i totally didnt agree with them saying was white finger as came on too soon, ie in a hurry so i went to a physio i use and explained issues, he agreed wasnt white finger. 4 horribly painful sessions later and its cured, turns out issue was in my neck. so bottom line is ask around, find a good physio and spend a little bit of time and money, may work out a lot better.
  22. oooh now a 346xpg silverside at the right price would be very very nice indeed! Sadly i need tyres for landy or i would be looking for one
  23. Terrafirma big bore plus 2 inch for mine, just replaced rears after 4 years as i bust one but that took a lot of abuse.
  24. hmmm so its starting to look like a bit doubtful for my idea. New hedge would be approx 4 foot from stems of retained hedge which would be reduced by 50%. hornbeam would be fine if its thought more likely to survive. i could easily rake site clean, punch holes with a pinch bar to allow water better in, dose heavily with fertiliser/bone meal, cheap bags of potting compost etc and allow to settle until spring so i guess 4 - 5 months time. equally i dont want to waste money on new hedge if likely to fail. watering for first few seasons is no issue, good water pressure near it so a mist hose could be set up.
  25. yep ideally i want to use the remaining half of hedge to shelter new hedge and house for a few years.
