  1. Last week i had to fell 2 cordylines for 2 seperate clients, the first was gobbed and backcut and went over with a few fibres in the chain and round the sprocket. The 2nd one blocked my main saw totally halfway through the backcut, for once i didnt have my back-up saw in the truck,so managed to finish cut with the 200t,and that was almost blocked solid.Quicker to have used an axe.
  2. Ben Burgess hire timberwolf 150s,they cover a large area,so should deliver to you ok.Hope this helps - Tim
  3. Dismantled and cleared 2 trees this morning,an apple and a particularly viscious apology for a tree with big sharp thorns on the trunk and boughs.Client had never been able to id it,and i've not seen 1 like it before. No damage to me or dragger, home by 12.
  4. I know that modern superbike riders with high revving motors with multi point injectors avoid filling up at supermarkets or village garages, they make a point of using only the main shell esso etc petrol forecourts.
  5. Back in the sixties i spent a season sat on a cat d7 doing 14 hour days,at the cost of my back and hearing.By their very nature most crawlers have had a hard life, and cat spares are not cheap,so get up very early in the morning before you part with your hard earned - Tim.
  6. Blimey,in trouble with mrs oldwoodcutter now,got muddled up,grandson is 2 in march, may is when our new grandaughter is due.
  7. My grandson will be 2 in may, does that count?
  8. Reduced some poplars over 2 days for old mrs Barclay of Barclays bank family last year, she had her butler bring tea and biscuits out to us from time to time.Funnily enough she paid me in cash.
  9. Buffeted about on top of my tripod all day reducing a thick old holly hedge, got to the end at 4,big clear up in the morning.
  10. Round here at the moment you can have all the certificates you like, with a paint shine you could stand and have a shave against, but if you are £50 dearer than the previous man to walk round the tree,or down the hedge, you wont get the job.
  11. A local dyke dweller hereabouts went up in front of magistrates for shooting a golden eagle. He pleaded that his wife and kids were starving, that he wouldn't normally dream of shooting eagles but he couldn't bear to see his little children go hungry. The bench took pity on him and let him off in the circumstances. On the way out in the foyer he bumped into the old magistrate who asked him how the bird tasted, after a few moments of hard thinking he replied "completely different from swan"

My old 625 mk2 has never let me down, run a oregon chain and keep sharp and the chips pour out of it.I take it out as a back up saw sometimes,or just use it for a change. You wont go far wrong with one.
  13. Woodwarm 5kw,keep all the room doors open and it warms up the house.I usually bring mrs oldwoodcutter 2 baskets in each day this time of year.
  14. Took some out this morning £80 cube dry hardwood.
  15. Ive been taking high strength glucosamine sulphate and omega 3 fish oils 1000mg since before christmas to help my elbows wrists and knees, feel a good deal better now but that may also be due to resting my joints during the past quiet month.Hope this helps you in the future - tim
  16. Hi Mick,my mother in law suffered from it until her passing, many years ago.It can easily wear out all those around, which is not what they would have wanted if they had been well.Often the sufferer can get quite paranoid over a simple change in routine,or something they dont understand. She would often mistake me for her dad [who had died in 1933] so i went along with it until the end.It is a time for comfort and fortitude - best wishes Tim
  17. If its of any help,i could dig out my manual for a 111,carb settings may be the same for you to look at,if all else fails worth a try.
  18. This time of year a flask of tea or coffee. We're usually not 5 minutes out of the yard in the mornings before i hear the familiar crack hiss - the first relentless opened by one of the young shavers beside me or in the back.Doesn't seem to give them any energy though.
  19. I never used to wear gloves, but do now when working, keep spare pairs for when they get wet to try and slow down effects of arthritis and rheumatism.Currently using nulon expert hand care intensive with almond oil.
  20. Just started to take a glucosamine and a cod liver oil a day, never used to take anything but now that my fingers, elbows, and knees are giving pain, mrs oldwoodcutter has taken them for years and now puts them out for me with my breakfast.Hope to feel improvement in few weeks.
  21. It's happened to me quite a lot lately, they accept the price and give me the go ahead, shake hands, next thing they're ringing me with some excuse that they've decided not to do it.Next time i drive past i see that smash and grab have been in again.
  22. The boys of the old school always advised me to walk away from an ash if it was a windy day,as the risk wasnt worth it.There would always be another day to drop it.Ive always remembered that.
  23. Years ago my son in law had a wreck of one when he first started out.I met him at his job and dropped some connies for him,not realising that he was going to take them all away. He'd borrowed an enormous bateson trailer and he stacked all this up on it really high.Must have been 2 ton easily.I followed him as a precaution down the lynn bypass doing 30 flat out weaving along on a saturday lunchtime.Luckily he got away with it - happy days.
  24. I've used a new QuadChip 150 3 times in the last 3 weeks and i cant fault it,fully computerised, just perfect.
  25. I also prefer oregon files, and like to sharpen little and often.
