  1. The local borough council made a local land owner reduce a 5 foot barbed wire fence down to 1 metre. He had fenced in both sides of a footpath running through his grounds.Thats all i know mate.
  2. I beleave that its an offence to have barbed wire higher than 1 meter if beside a public path.
  3. Like Littletree ive a genuine army goretex jacket, not the chinese copies. The hood is big enough to have over your helmet and even in a day of pelting rain nothing gets through it.Specially good when on the ground.
  4. Hereabouts its not so much scarfs or china, but a supermarket carrier bag tied to a hedge or fence,as if the wind has blown it there, usually white so highly visible on a dark night.Close by will be something readily convertable to cash.
  5. Sorry, perhaps i should have been clearer, this pole to house line was of the latest variety - the thick single heavily sheathed shiny one,the house was only 3 years old.My judgement on the day was that it was safe.Ive lived long enough to know never to guess whats around me,or take any cocky chances with anything, especially juice. Thanks for your concerns.
  6. Had a service line touching my back when i dismantled a walnut on tuesday, but i had a good look at it first, specially for squirrill damage to sheathing,as i could see their claw marks on the way up.As for streetside wires i get edf to have a butchers before i go near them. You generally dont get a second chance.
  7. Spent half a day clearing ivy last week and the next morning had sore throat and cough.I've only just shaken the cough off - could be coinsidence but there was a lot of dust coming off it.May be worth watching out for it.
  8. What to do if your good lady is on the far side of the menopause?
  9. Mrs oldwoodcutter and i went to a bulimia awareness fundraising party on saturday night. Blimey, the place was heaving.
  10. I dare say he's got used to working by himself.
  11. Back in the 60s a pal of mine liked to take his sawbench into the woods to log up there, instead of bringing the cord home to log He got a contract to thin larch on a big estate, and when he didnt come home as usual at teatime his wife biked to the phonebox to ring the farm foreman. He drove over to the wood to find the tractor and saw still running, with my mate on top of it,and going by the small number of logs on the ground he'd been like that all day. It was what nowadays youd say was a wake up call for me and i never forgot it.Nor did the foreman who'd been to hell and back as a fepow, but later told me he'd suffered flashbacks of that bench for long enough.
  12. I have to be extra careful nowadays,so i always take someone young or old with me on jobs i used to do alone, not only felling but hedging off the ground.Apart from the safety side,it generally cuts the time down to less than half, than if you do it all by yourself. And i dont fall asleep before ive ate my tea quite so much.
  13. Lummy me,at that rate he wont be standing behind a saw for much longer.
  14. By buying new,you will generally have the peace of mind of its reliability. If you are relying on one saw to do your work then the last thing you want is one that lets you down just when you want to be getting on.

Left my truck and trailer alongside a street lawn first thing,as my clients frontage had builders vans parked there, and its right on a busy mini roundabout.I walked over to see how best to back my trailer in,and the lawns owner comes after me ranting that ide blocked his drive.i walked back with him to prove ide left at least 2 yards away from his opening but he went bonkers and wouldnt listen. It takes more than that to ruffle me,i walked away and told him to do the same or ide turn him upside down and shake the change out of his pockets.
  16. They have invented new medication for depressed lesbians, its called tricoxagain.
  17. Michael O'Leary [Ryanair] walks into a Dublin bar and asks for a pint of Guinness. "That'll be 2 euros" says the barman "That's a very competitive price" "Yeah, and would you like a glass with that?"
  18. Ammunition boots for me
  19. Just after xmas a lad swished some ash brush by me just as ide taken my helmet off for a breather.Turned round to get a facefull of it - thought for a few seconds that he'd blinded me.Eye filled with blood imediatly but after of lot of water and effort the blood slowed.Went to doc that night for ointment and opinion, and it took a week or more to clear.Just the very time i wasn't wearing my specs or helmet.
  20. Don't often turn my nose up to a nice drink, but few weeks ago was on a rotten old scots pine with my son-in-law helping.Out came the tea "with soya milk" ,i dont know how it tasted, but looked like something the cat spewed up.After saying thanks,we simultaniously upended our mugs as she walked back to her door.
  21. A young feller from hereabouts swallowed some Tipex instead of his Viagara, woke up with a big correction.
  22. Tell my young draggers to use the word 'please' when client asks if you'd like a drink, and 'thanks' when brought out.And we always take the mugs back pronto in the hope of more later.
  23. Same here Paul,i bought 1 off Yvonne couple of weeks ago and used it over 3 days felling and stacking some big willows .Just when you think you've seen every handtool for treeing under the sun, along comes this.
  24. Hereabouts, they've just caught a prolific little car thief .Suprisingly he was japanese - name of Tommy Tookamota.
  25. Once got tangled up with a discarded fishing line while dismantling a willow, had to use my knife to get out . . . dont expect that counts?
